Yeah, I've been disappointed by how urbane Obi-Wan is and how much of a lout McGregor is in contrast.

Oh well, who cares? He's just an actor. The way I see it, he's there to entertain me. I don't care what he thinks about bluescreens. That's why it's called "acting," you half-wit. Get in those robes and convince me you're a Jedi! I'm paying your salary with my ticket purchase. This is the last Star Wars movie ever, so you better perform!

After that you can go straight to movie career hell and make a string of romantic comedies in the god-awful Hugh Grant tradition that will never be viewed by anyone possessing a Y-chromosome.

I just got this article clip from a news website (www.ewan.pitas.com) about Ewan-- I think it is a good example of his love/hate relationship with the films.

About 2 1/2 years ago -- after the junket for "Attack of the Clones," McGregor stopped drinking for interviews. He once called the process of making the effects-driven "Star Wars" films "the epitome of tedium." Now an older, soberer McGregor insists he's very happy to be in them. "I really am. And I like being Obi-Wan Kenobi. I like it when kids speak to me about it... because I remember being that way about the first three myself. So there's no disappointment of being in them at all."

The "Star Wars" films are hard work, he says, in some ways harder than anything else he's done. "Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's an unrewarding day to spend, standing in front of a blue screen speaking to thin air," he says. "It's rewarding when you see them, but it's a fairly unrewarding job to make them."

"I was backstage signing autographs when this guy starts yelling, 'Hey, Obi-Wan!' I tried to ignore him but he kept on shouting so I finally said, 'What do you want?' He said, 'Do you have any advice for a Jedi in training?' and I said, 'Yeah, **** off!'"

[face_laugh] You tell him Ewan! :D
Its no wonder Ewan gets pissed with adult fans if they don't even know his real name and say something as geekish as this prat did.

But anyway I'm a low key fan of Ewan's work and the fact he is an opinionated actor doesn't bother me, at least he says what he thinks and doesn't gush a film for the sake of it.
Though of course he does love the Star Wars films, and his other work, its understandable that the filmmaking process especially with regards to bluescreen can be annoying and tedious.
Ewan has done a great job, as has everyone else involved in the PT, and I don't mind him sounding off.

    kudos to you JKBurtola!

    Finally an intelligent comment.

Apart from Liam Neeson, Chris Lee and Ian McDiarmid, he is the only person that seems to be acting in these films. If he finds it difficult, tedious and so forth, I guess he's just that much better.

I could care less how he feels about the films or the fact that he would berate someone for calling him Obi-wan. He doesn't want to end up being a Bill Shatner or a Leonard Nimoy clone. And if he makes a bad romantic comedy here or there, at least he won't be remembered for one single role.

    Go Ewan!

If you sign that contract, you must deal with what comes along.....with respect to the fans. Ewan is not bigger than those who support him.

Precisely! Ewan isn't bigger than those who support him - he's equal to everyone around him. As such he's entitled to the same respect and privacy that we take for granted. The only times that Ewan has ever said negative things about SW is when people accost him in the streets or act like complete idiots. It's not his life! Some people seem to think that he owes his acting to career to SW, but the truth was that he was heading for the top before TPM was released.

Maybe if the press stopped asking him such dumb questions over and over again then he might appear in a better light. Ewan hates interviews and knows that he never comes over very well in them. He's interested in the acting side of things, not the media circus that inevitably goes with it all.

His family comes first at all times. Whether you like him as an actor or not, that is the sign of a decent person, in my opinion. He's a normal, non-showbiz person who detests sycophants and Hollywood sham-glam. He says what he feels. So, he dislikes blue screen? I hate my office job! I'm allowed to say so, but he's not supposed to say how boring he finds it - just because he's in SW? That's just crazy!

It's a terrible thing when the actors aren't allowed to have the same freedom of speech that everyone else has.

To be honest, I get annoyed whenever I hear an actor complaining about their role in a production, and how difficult something is or tedious or boring. They get paid SO much money, millions of dollars, to stand around and recite lines on camera, and they think that anyone could care less if there's a part of that which they don't particularly enjoy??

A successful and popular actor can earn from ONE film the equivalent of two lifetime's worth of salaries for an average hard-working office worker. From ONE film. Which do you think has anything to complain about?

Do you guys honestly think that no one else finds the work with filming three huge major movies to be grueling? Anyone in their right mind would find that grueling. And it would be really hard to act with not only a blue screen and no real enviroment, but something on a stick as the 'character' you're acting with. Ewan's one of the best actors in SW and he's done a great job, and it's clear that he loves SW. He just gets tired of how hard the work is. Other people probably do, too, he's just the only one with enough gumption to say so, and I applaud him for being honest.

And listen to this, straight from the AOTC commentary. This was during one of the Kamino scenes:

'This is one of the scenes when i felt really sorry for Ewan McGregor. He showed up one day and was put in a completely blue room with nothing there.'

The guys behind the camera understand why it's so hard, and understand the frustration that comes with this kind of work. Why can't some of you?

Give me a few million dollars and I'll be more than happy to feel frustrated, put up with some "grueling and difficult" acting work in front of a blue wall (Oh dear I have to pretend today), and keep my trap shut and a smile on my face. And how long do have to do this for...a few hours a day for about 10 weeks? Gee, that is just SO demanding. Wait, I've changed my mind...I think I'll need a pay rise before I agree to these terrible working conditions. At least another two million dollars please.

Gimme a break. All those zeroes on his paycheck should be enough for him (and any other successful, but whining actor) to be very, very happy for the chance to be there, and do their job. They forfeit the luxury of being able to complain when they accept the luxury of being overpaid by several million bucks to stand around and recite lines.

Ewan's performance has been one of the highlights of the prequels so far. A person still has the right to be honest even if they do make a lot of money at what they do. If American Idol has proved anything, it is that performance art is not as easy as some people may delude themselves to believe it is. Yes, Ewan is making a lot of money acting. He is also one of a very few who could have pulled this role off. It is simple supply and demand. What if his performance in these films were awful? You people criticizing him for being a jerk would be the first ones roasting him for how badly he performed as Obi-Wan. It is not just the money for any one at any job, it is also recognition and reputation. But, Ewan is doing masterfully well under difficult circumstances. I would like to see you Ewan-critics stand up in nothing but blue screen and "just read lines" the way Ewan has been doing. No reference points to gauge performance just "hopefully" good direction and imagination. Stop the jealousy and just enjoy.

Thank you, Lan. Folks like these prove the grass is always greener on the other side. You guys have no idea what it's like to have to act in those conditions, and while trying to mimick another actors performance, and with the pressure of unpleasable fans like some of you. It's not always all about the money, you know. Ewan's a serious actor, not a movie star. Give him a freakin' break, because I doubt anyone else could do the role better, and I know none of you could. So let him be honest and blow off some steam. And maybe stop focusing on the negative.

The latest comment I heard from Ewan:

"If I say ANYTHING but 'Star Wars been very very good to me', the whiney fanboy Star Wars Nerds jump all over me & complain that they wish I wasn't playing Obi-Wan Kenobi."

Let me tell you crybabies something:

Being a father is hard work. Often tedious. Definitely difficult.

Having said that, does that mean I wish I didn't have kids or that my kids would be better off with a different father?
    Hardly.

Ewan is simply stating the facts. It's difficult work.

Lighten up, for George Lucas's sake. ;)

Why is it we never hear Sam Jackson complaining about his role in SW? He has to do a lot of the same stuff as Ewan

SLJ is in the movies about 1/5 as much as Ewan, if that.
And, he's probably making 2-5 times as much money.
Plus, he gets to order GL around.....

Ewan has made some interesting comments that were posted in a Holonet article. He states how he turned to drinking after the stardom of TPM hit him and he said some stupid things. He also said he adores the character he plays in SW.

I'm totally fed up with the fanboys who bag on Ewan, and that article explains why.

He's a damn fine actor, who does enjoy doing the work but when you get flooded with the kind of fame Ewan has been put under its not hard to understand why he has been like he has. Some people just can't cope with it all, but Ewan's learning to.

I'm proud as a Brit, to see that he is able to say how he feels, admit his mistakes and still say he loves being Obi-Wan. Because that in my book is all that counts. If he loves playing the role but still has things to say about it all then let him.

In communist China Ewan would'nt have an opinion either. But thank God for the good old USA.

Funny that he's actually from the UK. Thank god for the United Kingdom :D

Agreed. He doesn't hate Star Wars, just the process. And unlike much of his early work, he, as a father, can show these films to his daughters.
