This is almost a irrevlevant question, but I'm going to ask it anyway.

In KOTOR, most people pronounce his last name like Koon, as in racoon.

Then, there are very few in the game that pronounce it as I thought it should be pronounced, and the way it is spelled -- Kun, the un sounding like the un in gun.

Very stupid question, I know, but I'm curious if anyone here knows.

I thought Kun, but I believe the NEGTC has it pronounced as Koon, and since the game does, I've accepted that.

I always took it as "Koon," ever since I first saw the name myself in the TotJ graphic novels. The alternative doesn't have the same feel in my mind.

Remember, Star Wars words need not follow English pronunciation rules. If they did, then yes, Kun would have a "un" as in "fun" sound.

In the Dark Lords of the Sith audio drama (which was just re-released btw), it's pronounced as Ecksar Koohn.

Once again you see the American idiosyncrasy at play here, subtle but no less nefarious. Whereas normal citizens say sun and fun, they make Kun Koon. Yun in the Taris Upper Bar had that same issue. I suspect the Yun from Dark Forces suffered that illusion too. Just as they attempt to condition you into thinking dejarik and sabacc are the only two gambling vices in the galaxy, along with endless cantina scenes, one can always remember choice of pronounciation is their own buisness.

KOTOR pronounces Twi'lek both ways, which was good to hear, although it'd be nice to see some fat ones too.

Exar Kooon sounds like some sort of hermaphroditic species of rain forest moth larva.

Exar Kun, like how Jolee Bindo says it, sounds like a very angry darksider.

episodenone: Juliet said that ;) :p

    Direct quote:

    JULIET
'Tis but thy name that is my enemy.
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? It is nor hand nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet.

So Romeo would, were he not Romeo called,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And, for thy name, which is no part of thee,
    Take all myself.

That's from the valcony scene. Fight after the famous "Romeo, Romeo. Wherefort art thou Romeo?"

No, I did not have the first quotation memorized. I got my copy of R&J out :p

I used to pronounce it "Kun" until I read the pronounciation guide thingie in the New Essential Guide to Characters and it said "Koon". Ever since I've used the Koon pronounciation.

I thought it was "Kuhn", until I heard the DLotS audio drama, in which it's "Koon".

I always considered it "Koon." Plus it ruins Sithy's Draft statement about him being "Kunstoppable", because "Koonstoppable" is a pretty sucky phrase. :p

I get the impression pronunciations of names in Star Wars aren't as consistent a we're used to in the real world. Leia's name is pronounced in at least two different ways, as is Han's, for instance--and this in the movies. This may be in part a sort of accent issue; perhaps different letters are typically sounded in different ways on different planets, or perhaps certain sounds aren't typically used in certain places' native tongues, and Basic is mangled in result. I figure that both pronunciations of "Kun" are likely employed, but "Koon" seems to be favored.

I'm interested in pronunciation as a whole, though. I wonder if the rules are looser in the GFFA. We here on Earth seem pretty definitive in our pronunciations; perhaps the whole affair is more open and relaxed in the GFFA?

Koon seems to be the official pronounciation, but I think koon sounds too silly- sounds lik some southern hillbilly nickname for someone.

Kun sounds more powerful, more threatening- i guess because it sounds like Hun as in Attila the Hun.

I don't think so, 'koon' has an exotic, dark feel to it, especially because it starts with a 'K'. 'Kuhn' sounds simplistic and it's a short syllable. Though I'll bet the name 'Kun' was inspired by Atilla's legacy.

Before the NEGtC or the game ever game out I heard on the Dark Lords of the Sith audio drama Kun being pronounce Koon. The NEGtC gives it as Ek-sar Koon, which sounds about like how it is pronounced in the audio drama.

Yeah, "Exar the Kun" would've been cool.

But then we'd be all like "What's a Kun? Is it a species? A cult? Where did it come from? Did it smell funny? Is there gonna be a book about it? A comic book? Surely a video game..."

Odd, because I'be been thinking just the opposite.

IMO "Koon" sounds exotic, dark, intelligent, and scheming

I think that "Kun" sounds very westernised and unsophisticated, and kind of dead, like it has no body to it.

I prefer pronouncing it XR Kun as in fun not koon.

Here in the south saying "koon" could get you hurt...
