The reason I ask this is mainly because of the family guy joke about lightsabers and laser-eye surgery. In GFFA, do people wear glasses, or get surgery, or contacts, or what? The Jedi Jolee tells you about obviously needs glasses, but nobody else (besides Jaina in BP) ever has vision problems. What's uP?
Well you have to assume that with all the crazy advances they've made elsewhere, their optometry would pwn ours. My guess is some kind of futuristic laser surgery. And what Jedi Jolee talked about? I do not recall...
Luke "Ok this wont hurt a bit" Ben "Use the Force Luke" Luke "But Master, Im doing surgery" Ben "Just Use the Force!" Luke *Used the force to float the lightsaber and missed plunging it into his head* Ben *slowly walks out* haha i love that episode of familgy guy, and im assuming that theyve got some freakyly high tech eye surgery stuff
Balrog, if you talk to Jolee, the second story he tells you (after the guy getting thrown down the reactor shaft) is about reasons he left the Jedi. He goes on a tangent about a Jedi Master who couldn't see, but refused to acknowledge it. Eventually, a student asked him for directions, and when the student took them, they led away from the Jedi enclave, so the Jedi lost another student through arrogance and being pigheaded.
That'd be "Zao", and yes, I believe Zao was blind. Some species were born without eyes, though, like Jedi Shaoneb Culu's species. Additionally, wasn't Jerec born blind?
Typically, the authors don't give us folks with a need for sign language, glasses, hearing aides, and the like.
Apparently you need bad eyesight to become a stormtrooper. Or maybe Jango was cloned before he had his eye surgery.
No, it's those blasted stormtrooper helmets. Remember, Luke says something about not being able to see in his. We see these big lenses on the outside but what we don't see is the microscope size viewing lense they have to look through. The Empire diliberately makes sure their stormies can hardly see.
Of course they do, otherwise they would have won the GCW, probably the Vong Invasion. Funny the way things work out. Oh, and RebelScum, you told it wrong. The lightsaber goes through the patient's eye, and, thus, her head. Upon which Luke says "There, now are you happy?" and Ben replies "I've never been happy...". I nitpick when people tell jokes wrong. It's a pet peeve.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Sullustans' eyesight often deteriorates, leading to a need for some kind of seeing... improvement... thing.
That was mentioned in Children of the Jedi; that Sullustans suffer cornea symptoms (from 40 onward?) There was also a Black Sun vigo Dug with a monacle in the Darthy Maul comic.
Jerec was blind and used the Force to see. And I know this is a mere guess but I think that goes for every Jedi with bad eyesight or whom is blind.
Moruth Doole, the Rybet that controlled the Spice Mines of Kessel in JAT, had an artificial eye. IIRC Jabba the Hutt had it gouged out in response to Doole stealing spice from his shipments. And don't forget... Han Solo was temporarily blind after his hibernation in carbonite. In the ROTJ-Infinities version, his block is damaged and he is permanently blinded. Personally, I think prenatal care in the GFFA is so good that very few children are born blind, deaf and mentally or physically-handicapped on civilized worlds.
Personally, I think prenatal care in the GFFA is so good that very few children are born blind, deaf and mentally or physically-handicapped on civilized worlds. But there's also a lot of very poor third-world worlds so to speak... and worlds with lots of pollution problems that would also lead to birth defects and such. Other than a few characters born blind, it seems that most physical disabilities or disfigurements are the result of either battle or punishment or lightsabers... and not the usual stuff that happens on earth -- vehicle accidents, workplace or household injury, natural disasters, leftover land mines, malnutrition and inadequate health care, etc.
Frankly, my guess is that poor eyesight has been eliminated from the genetic pool. That would make sense- no need for expensive and dangerous lightsaber eye surgery. Man, that was a great episode of Family Guy.
With regard to the Dug with a monocle: You don't need to have poor eyesight to wear a monocle; you just have to be haughty and pompous.
well, it's a big 'ol galaxy. I am sure in many places bad eyesight would be a thing of the past. For, say, a slave on Tatooine, I would bet glasses are still an option, if not more likely.
People on Tatooine would probably need glasses or laser surgery or something the most--remember in the SW novel, when it said that the glare of the twin suns on the sand could blind people? Maybe the people in SW just splash their eyes with bacta or something.
