Booted up Toussaint on B&W and the art/graphics are better than an oil painting.

10/10, would leave reality for toussaint.

    Told yeh.

Meanwhile, after clocking in at 265 hours across nearly four months, for the first time ever, I have Platinumed a game!

I don't usually ever get to do this because the trophy list will have something I'll never pull out like 'get a perfect 1000 hit combo on 10 enemies in a row', so I haven't really cared about it because it was always out of reach. Assassin's Creed Odyssey though, hey, I actually had most of the trophies, so went after the remainder and managed to get 'em.

Nice! I have never platinumed an AC game because there are just too many collectibles usually or too many locations to visit in these newer games because they're so vast. And because I only want to spend 100 hours, not 250+ hours :p

So what other games have people platinumed? For me for a long time it was only Telltale games, which are cheating because they give you the plat just for finishing the whole story.

But when Destiny 2 came out, I finally got my first *real* platinum. This was back when a Prestige Nightfall counted for the trophy The Prestige, so I only had to beat the Leviathan Raid on normal difficulty... but it counted! I got the plat in pretty quick order, just a few months after the game came out if I recall. I'm proud of that because only like 2.6% of players have the platinum. I just wish I had gotten an emblem or armor set for it :(

See, I loved exploring those AC worlds, one trophy was for 100% exploration. I had, no joke, 99.53%.

Turns out there was this one island that everyone missed, me too. Went there, got it.

I love exploring but I didn't need to find every single Lion den or whatever. Some of those locations didn't have anything unique to see really, so I didn't go there.

I got a higher completion percentage on Origins because I felt the environments were more unique.

Geralt going to the bank in Toussaint is the most I’ve ever identified with a video game character.

So, I've been sitting at like halfway through episode five of LiS for like four days now and I just cannot motivate myself to pick it up and finish it. I mean, I'm going to, because I really do feel the need to talk at length about how I actually really dislike this game now and it wouldn't be fair to do so without finishing it. So, brace yourselves, 99% of the people reading this thread; I will be going through LiS episode by episode and talking about how it starts really well and then just slowly goes off a cliff, so that will be fun for exactly no one, but I'll put it all behind spoiler tags so you guys can just skip it. :p

But I actually came here to say something else. I started a tradition last year where I would play a horror game during October (not that I don't already play plenty through the rest of the year) and the game I ordered for that purpose arrived today. I was so excited that I booted it right up tonight and I am now about thirty minutes into Until Dawn. Holy ****. Holy. ****. This game is amazing. Again, I'm only thirty minutes in, but I love every mechanic they've introduced so far and the game looks amazing. The totems concept is particularly cool; I love that you collect the totems in order to complete the flashback video . . . that is so intriguing and cool. And that Prologue was genuinely super-intense, so I can't wait for the **** to get crazy in the real story. Something about the choice mechanic here just feels really intense in a way that even the timed choices in the Telltale games didn't. This is going to be so great.

I enjoyed Life Is Strange but the sequel has lost me after just one episode. Hamfisted attempts at political allegory, gameplay that is mostly (if not entirely) dominated by walking around, underwhelming premise - it's a real waste. It lacks anything and everything of what made the first game so enjoyable.

As for me, Season 1 of Hitman - it's glorious.

Oh, God, and that was actually originally up next after LiS. I kind of started LiS so I could play LiS 2, even though I think the connections aren't super explicit. And I bought LiS 2 on the strength of its Games for Impact nomination at TGA last year. I doubt I'm going to play it now.

If LiS isn't your jam, LiS2 will be nothing but a grind. You're welcome to try but...

I don't care if you hate LiS if you wind up loving Until Dawn :D I adore that game so much, I played it all in one sitting. Yes that was like 8 hours and I finished around 3am. Wild ride, that game. I also like the PSVR prequel The Inpatient, though many people didn't seem to due to mechanical issues. But meh, love that world.

Which reminds me I need to play Man of Medan really badly! I might wind up playing that all in one sitting as well, who knows.

Began playing both Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE on Wii U and Hollow Knight the other day. I'll save most of my TMS comments for the Switch thread since it's coming out in January on that system, but while I am still early in the game (basically still in the prologue, though I've defeated a boss already) it does seem to be doing a good job of easing you into the battle systems, though indirectly in some cases.

So you kinda learn by doing and figuring stuff out on your own even though they give you an overview first, like the titular Session attacks. They describe to you what the Session (team-up/combo) attacks are and how to trigger them, but they leave it up to you to guess/figure out what skills/attacks will actually trigger them on what enemies (you're supposed to be able to determine what weaknesses an enemy has to select what will trigger a Session- but I either haven't unlocked that ability yet or haven't been able to decipher where that info is on the screens).

The GamePad usage is kinda immersive, though- besides being used as a map and character stat info reference, it primarily acts as the main character's cell phone to recieve text messages from different characters to advance the plot. So the pad will vibrate like a phone, etc. So that your-controller-is-the-device aspect is kinda neat and draws you in a bit more.

Hollow Knight has some solid Metroidvania going on and a great art style. Challenging, though- but that could just be because I forget to keep an eye on my life meter and get too ambitious with my attacks at Duck Tales'ing enemies with combo strikes that seem to exceed the responsiveness of the game's controls. There's a realy cool central mechanic of how killing enemies builds a resource that can be used to replenish your life meter- but that doesn't help you if you forget to look at the meter and actually use it, lol.

Also, it could just be my setup but it seems you really need to play the game in a dark room or in handheld mode because of the art direction. Any reflections on the TV are going to make it harder than usual to see portions of the screen. Likewise, there's seemingly a subtle spotlight effect around the character and action focus vs the edge so the screens. As a result of those two factors, the game literally had me seeing spots that made reading the map utterly impossible until they cleared, not to mention a bit of a headache from trying to get my eyes to readjust. I've never experienced that from a game before.

Now, granted, killing the light in the room to eliminate the reflection would be a good step to improving the situation- I just couldn't since i was streaming (so you wouldn't have been able to see me with the light off). If I can't adjust my lighting setup (or somehow get really close to the TV) I might have to swap to a different game for the stream and just continue Hollow Knight offline on the side. So, it's not an issue that will affect most people, but definitely take your gaming environment & mode setup into consideration if you're going to give HK a play.

microsoft's game streaming platform, mixer, has been largely a joke since its inception, when it comes to market share and viewership. in the last few months, they made a big move for the twitch/fortnite streamer ninja, and today followed that by signing shroud, a former csgo "pro" and one of the most popular twitch streamers in the BR/shooter niche.

clearly dumping a bunch of money into competing with twitch, which frequently has highly-publicized missteps, but is used to being the only game in town. competition is often good.

One important thing to note is that Halo Infinite is coming out next year and both of these guys are big FPS players (Ninja started with Halo if I'm not mistaken). For those who don't know, Mixer is owned by Microsoft. So perhaps they are trying to compete with Twitch but I feel like a lot of this is driven by them trying to promote their next big game on their own live streaming service.

Well, MS is now in the business of services and is less dependent on hardware- they just want their hardware to be your ideal place to access their services. So wanting to establish Mixer as a viable alternative to Twitch is probably just as valuable to them as promoting Halo (see Master Chief Collection coming to PC, etc). Given how crowded Twitch is getting, they may see an opening since youtube gaming has kinda stalled baring Stadia giving it a shot in the arm.

So Ubisoft just had a big investor call, where they announced that after the disappointment of Breakpoint, they're delaying all the games currently on their slate. Watchdogs Legion, the next Rainbow Six... who knows if this includes the unannounced AC game. Guess they want to make sure those games are more polished and do well.

So maybe take out the microtransactions...?

My copy of the Outer Worlds is in the post. Guaranteed.

Yeah, might help. This was, in part, why I've bought Outer Worlds. I rarely buy new games these days unless it's something that I think really needs the support like say the Yakuza series.

They don't have terrible ones in AC, since it's single player and who cares if you get an XP boost there... Maybe at least keep it to that?

Anyway, Ubi just announced those two games and Gods and Monsters won't be coming out until July-Dec and will now be pushed as next gen games. Probably will help Legion run better, what with all characters being playable.

Wow, I'm a big supporter of games getting delayed until they're actually, you know, good, but delaying your entire schedule of games at one go? That's intense.

got outer worlds yesterday and it's great. both the gf and I are having an absolute blast in the game (and it doesn't hurt how the game portrays a capitalist nightmare universe hehehehhee). It's very much a successor to New Vegas, and if you're disappointed with Fallout 4/76, this is something you're gonna wanna play. Basically: House got his wish.

Yeah I am too. But they say now some of them at least will be PS5/Scarlett games. So that's a very big delay. Hopefully it works out.

I asked for The Outer Worlds for Christmas, so I will have to wait a while.
