I am thoroughly enjoying Fire Emblem Awakening. And very glad I got a 2DS XL. I am also hoping to get some games for Christmas like OOT and MM remakes so I can finally actually play and finish these classic Zelda games that I never beat as a kid.

I think I've got my PC build nailed down at last. Would anyone mind taking a look and making sure I've not made any massive errors?

Did have a bit of concern with one of the compatibility notes at the bottom regarding the motherboard and PSU, but according to Reddit it's safe to ignore it.

Honestly, I don't really pay a ton of attention to what's great, hardware wise, when I'm not upgrading my own PC and the last time I did that was two years ago.

That being said, the one I thing I would inquire about is if Zotac is a good choice for the GPU. I've bought Gigabyte for the two Nvidia cards I've owned and have had no issues. I know a lot of people really like EVGA as well, but that could also be outdated information.

I've started properly on The Outer Worlds.

The general opinion online is that it's Fallout but better and I agree with this. Where Fallout is an irradiated hellhole, TOW is a far more pleasant, albeit deceptive, environment. Though, just because it looks better doesn't mean it is better - as you quickly find out in a conversation or two.

One of the things that stands out is the attention to detail, often allied to a very sharply wicked sense of humour. From the off you get to choose how you're going to operate but you aren't constrained to a singular path either after making a decision - sure, that might have impacts but you could do a quest that counter impacts those in turn.

Does character creation count? Given the dialogue options I had come up of Perception or Engineering in addition to the usual Persuade, it does. I'm nowhere near started on that but even at this early stage it's notable how character build impacts gameplay.

Companions are pretty smart too. There's far less running into my line of fire like in, well so many other games. Stealth isn't really that much of an option as once you take out one enemy the rest instantly know, but unlike say Mass Effect Andromeda, the enemies aren't so incredibly mobile you lose track of them. If anything you'll generally have a good idea of what you're about to engage with before you do, if you decide to.

Graphically, this isn't a powerhouse game - others will beat it in that category but in terms of graphical style? It has that in spades. It looks very, very good with no end of smart design. It also doesn't grant its NPCs superpowers, at least not so far. I've gone into a house, shut the doors, looted everything not nailed down and no one "somehow" knew I'd done it, which often is the way in these games - the Oblivion cops being a case in point.

And my character? Kind of anti-corporate mixed with a good dose of kleptomania and inclined to go for shooting their way out of trouble, but does have a bit of silver tongue.

PC Specialist seem to use Palit or Zotac brands as their default GPU options, with more well know ones such as Asus being a fair bit more. Pretty sure the GTX 970 I've got is one of those brands and it's done a damn good job.

I'm just going to say it (although others have said it before):

The Outer Worlds? It's Firefly. It's Firefly with the trademarks filed off.

Let's see if you finish the game before I get past the last level I'm stuck on- whenever i get back around to it ;).

What are you playing on? I'm on normal/casual, which is basically like cheating just to get the story :p

I did the hardcore mode with permadeath. I won't be doing that again on my other FE games (mostly because those other games have probably accumulated, in part, because playing that mode has kept me from finishing Awakening in a timely manner), but I wanted that experience at least once even though I've ended up savescumming to avoid most character deaths (though I was willing to sacrifice a few- played 80% of the game without an archer as a result since i lost Viron after only 1 or 2 battles).

But playing that mode has certainly extended how many extra years it has taken me to finish the game. I'm finally on the last, or second to last, map now (not counting Paralogues or Xenologues). I'm hoping to finally top the game off by the end of the year, since I'll probably have some time around the holidays while traveling.

Yeaaaah I know permadeath would just be something that would annoy me rather than being a good feature of the game in my mind. I want to be able to enjoy things. I mean, you still have to protect Robin and Chrom no matter what so there's some challenge in that.

And oh no, I would hate to lose Virion so early. He amuses me. Even if some of my other characters have learned bow skills in their Master classes by now.

I'm pretty sure I've said something to this effect before, but I think there's a really good case to be made that they haven't "actually" designed for permadeath since Genealogy of the Holy War (remakes of earlier titles excepted), and as characterization increased with greater robustness of the support system the problem of implicitly encouraging the player to restart after any deaths occurred only got worse. So, y'know, whatever. Casual mode as an option is definitely a way better solution to the problem than Radiant Dawn's... all that mess.

    Outer Worlds

Had some rather smart dialogue duels tonight. One saw me talk Reed around, the other I told Adelaide to go stuff herself - I've met people like her in real life, they are all unpleasant individuals. What was interesting was the array of the options but also how the conversation itself changed from point to point.

Oh and doesn't anyone not like Parvati?

Guys, I'm in chapter six of Until Dawn so no spoilers or anything, but, man, this game is amazing.

I never thought I'd play another game that had such great cheap jump scares as Outlast, but this one even outdoes Outlast. Note what I said there. Some games have cheap jump scares; others have great ones; this one has cheap jump scares that are also somehow great because of how unashamedly cheap they are. And sometimes, they're soooo telegraphed, but they still get me.
That doll's going to move, isn't it? Isn't it? Yeah, it's going to move. It's about to about to move. The doll is about to move DO NOT BE AFRAID WHEN THE DOLL MOVES COME ON COME ON MOVE WILL Y-*doll moves* *levitates out of bed with fright*

This game has given me several of the deep flinch reactions that, you know, you flinch so hard, you can feel it in your sinuses? Am I the only one who does that? It's also super-weird to be playing a game with so few and rare achievements. I got my first trophy tonight. In chapter six. That just feels weird, exiting a game and not going to look to see what trophies I got.

Oh man, the best jump scare is in that chapter. Right when you walk into the basement. You probably know what I mean. I love watching let's plays of this game, and that one always gets people. It certainly got me.

And yeah, I did get some trophies near the end of the game (a lot of them are for what combination of your characters survive), but I was hardly focused on that. I was just so focused on the story and characters. This game has several characters I haaaated at the beginning but was rooting for to survive by the end.

I will be so excited to read your review of this game once you're done :D It really is one of my favorites ever.

Which reminds me that I really ought to be playing Man of Medan.

Not quite. Check the brand name of the energy ammo. :p

I think disliking Parvati is about as possible as division by zero.

Yeah Parvati is great. You can use her as a high level fusion that keeps Fairy in your party and you get a Mediarama in the bargain in Nocturne, you can use her as a spam healer in between fights in Raidou Kuzunoha, even in IV where there are arguably a few too many healing options due to the revamped skill inheritance system you should probably still fuse a Parvati at some point just for the ma-

    Oh.

Well I'm a hardcore Survivor fan. So I am weird. But she was a winner, so she got $1 million. I don't think she cares if you know who she is :)

It'd be pretty ****ed up if she did care regardless of her winnings. Like that's way too much commitment to self-searching at that point. "Log off," we'd say, but it's not like any of us would log off. You know what would happen then? We'd be at loggerheads about logging off. And nobody wants carnivorous turtles getting involved.

Are you both implying that my opinions about people I've never met, and probably never will, aren't the most important ones?

If you'll both excuse me, I need to curl in a little ball in the corner and rethink my world views.
