This film is being released in 2007. Most of the former cast is supposed to return, andit is all but officially announced that Doug Jones shall be the Silver Surfer.

I know the first one sucked, but one must keep optimistic, and hope that this one is better.

    Release date: June 15, 2007

    Director: Tim Story

Writers: Michael France & Don Payne

    Starring:
    Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic............Ioan Gruffudd
    Susan Storm/Invisible Woman............Jessica Alba
    Johnny Storm/Human Torch...............Chris Evans
    Ben Grimm/The Thing....................Michael Chiklis
    Victor Von Doom/Dr. Doom...............Julian McMahon
    Norrin Radd/Silver Surfer..............Doug Jones
    Alicia Masters.........................Kerry Washington

From what hasd been said, apparantly, Reed and Sue will probably get marries, Alicia Masters will have a bigger role (as if it oculd get any smaller), and Jessica Alba will be wearing a skimpier costume, with about half her breasts covered.

A lot of people actually liked the F4 movie, which I found surprising and apalling.

Why would the Silver Surfer be in a F4 movie? I hope he's the main focus, then, 'cause the F4 can't hold a movie on their own.

My experience with Silver Surfer has been notoriously bad.

I remember back in the hey-day of animated superhero shows (the Timmverse Batman, X-Men, and Spiderman were all on air at the time, and doing well) they tried to introduce a Silver Surfer show.

It was so bad they didn't ven finish the pilot before it got cancelled. It was a two-parter, yeah, but i don't think the show lasted long enough for him to even become Silver Surfer.

And oh what an awful, tortured plot in that first 30 minutes of air time. I was never so happy to see commercials.

My father was the Executive Producer of that show. It put a roof over my head, and a keyboard under my fingers. [face_plain]

I liked the first one. Doctor Doom was a poor version of what the character should be, but apart from that it was good.

Because his first appearance in comics, the story where he was turned from a villain to one of the good guys, was in an early (and classic) Fantastic Four story.

Comic-Con: Doug Jones On Surfer Rumours
    Fantastic Four 2 casting riddle

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For days now, online rumours have been swirling about performer Doug Jones (Hellboy?s Abe Sapien) providing motion capture work for the Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four 2.

And when Jones turned up at the San Diego Comic Con alongside Pan?s Labyrinth director Guillermo Del Toro to promote that film, it wasn?t long before someone asked him about the Surfer. "I will make this as brief and legal as I can. No comment," Jones told the crowd, before adding apologetically, "It's like taking porn from a teenager. I will not be wearing a green screen leotard and doing motion capture in any forthcoming film that I'm aware of."

But that wasn?t all ? he then hinted at the idea that?s he?s in negotiations for the role. Referring to the shiny silver shirt he was sporting, he grinned, "I like this colour on me and I hope to wear more of it soon. I found an outfit in this store that I really like in this colour but I don't own it. They're still seeing if my credit card clears." You can imagine the cheering.

So that?s his answer: he?s not said yes and he?s not said no. But he did promise to tell us as soon as he can legally say either way.

Tim Story Gives Fantastic Four Sequel Update
Source: Tim Story July 22, 2006

Fantastic Four sequel director Tim Story has posted another update on his official Blog in which he gives an update on what's happening:

I am busy working away at all the concept art and most recently the design for Doom. I saw the maquette today of what the improved Doom will look like and he's everything I 've wanted him to be. Many have stated their disappointment with the lack of "evil" ness in the last movie and I'd be lying if I said I was able to do everything I set out to do, but this time, there will be the plotting and the fighting and technology. He's just as smart as Reed, or as he would say, smarter and I'm going to represent that in the movie big time. Julian is on board and wants to have just as much fun in making him "that villian" we all know and love, or should I say hate. I'm wrestling right now with the cape issue and trying to have it but not let it get in the way of him fighting. He's not going to just shoot beams of power this time. He goes toe to toe with a really big surprise.

My 2nd Unit director Ej Forrester was showing me storyboards on a sequence we have in the movie that involves Doom, and we're determined to have him blowing up ****! Wait until you see the mask! The armor!

    McMahon On The "Fantastic" Sequel

While promoting the fourth season of "Nip/Tuck" today, series' star Julian McMahon revealed to iF Magazine that he is indeed going to be returning as Dr. Doom in the "Fantastic Four" sequel.

Since Doom was completely covered in his costume by the end of the first film, the big question comes - is he just providing a voice, or will he actually be seen on screen.

"We haven't got a script yet. The script hasn't been put out and I'm not going to start until the end of August or September. Right now, I'm literally every day, 16 hours a day on Nip/Tuck... I don't think there is going to be as many prosthetics. That was tough. I would rather not do it again, but at the same time, I've signed up to do what I need to do".

    Thanks for the info. Sammy:cool:

Sounds like they're gonna try to put Doom right by not having Julian McMahon in it very much:p

Silver Surfer's only useful purpose was to make for a cool Joe Satriani album cover. He doesn't need a movie. Nor do the Fantastic Four need another movie.

Silver Surfer's only purpose was to herald Galactus. Galactus is a big FF enemy, thusly we can conclude, Silver Surfer brings Galactus, and totally awesome zomg.

It lasted one season, 13 episodes.

Oh and Surfer is cool. There won't be Galactus in this movie I'm sure, but I wouldn't be surprised it's a setup for a possible #3 featuring him.

There's an idea! Maybe Silver Surfer doesnt herald Galactus but instead heralds Gabriel the Air-Walker, who in turn heralds Firelord who heralds the Destroyer who heralds Terrax who heralds Rom the Spaceknight who heralds Nova who heralds Morg who heralds Red Shift who heralds Stardust who finally heralds Galactus!

Why exactly would a planet-eating entity need a herald, anyway? Nothing is gained by informing people that their world is about to be destroyed. It's not like surrender is a meaningful option. I'm not sure how well they thought all of this through.

And Fish, you'd be asking him to lie.

Bigger Fish, please don't let the movie's craptacularness ruin your opinion of the Fantastic Four. They are really great, that film just tarnished their image.

A Fantastic Four film should be written by Joss Whedon. Now, granted I would prbably say that for any film, since Whedon is a god, but Fantastic Four would be the most appropriate film for him to write, since his greatest strengths are writing humor mixed with action, from characters who interact together well as a family. That's the definition of the Fantastic Four.

    Slimy!
