[FAQ] We're NOT moving

Alright then.

 

We're thinking everything will transfer over no matter if there's a space or not. But we won't know for sure until we move.

 

and so.....is it just me......or what,

these boards are becomming harder and harder to launch,
as they become more laden with slicker/motion filled adds,
which means.....for the past two days, I was unable to get
most of the boards on this site with such advertising to launch,
as compared to ...hhhmmmmm......ezboard.com...or any other site I seem to try,
.....example, once I just gave up and read a book yesterday,
and 10 minutes later, the page finally came up.......with the motion add of course.
most trouble is at .....choose a board.....


Call me paranoid, but some....."FORCE"......seems to be dragging this out,
for it's own nefarious needs.

oh, my computer is not state of the art, but it is not an abacus either

All names should be transferred.

I would imagine that vB would disallow spaces placed before or after a username with nothing following or preceding. I also think that the team will have checked out as many possibilities as possible to ensure parody names don't happen. :)

I just hope there's fair warning once the boards are moving cause I'd really hate to be someone who is writing a new fanfic or a new literature post, for example, and then all of a sudden the database is moved and they lose their post.

I bet IGN is waiting til November 1st.

 

Maybe it's just me... but it seems like fic writers should type their post in Word first.

 

I do - and then I copy and paste. But not all of the fanfic writers do that.

 

It'd be more likely that some other disturbance happens while they were typing up a reply to their fanfic - power goes out, so their computer turns off, the boards are down for another reason, etc.

That said, yes, there most likely will be some sort of warning, because the transfer can't happen instantaneously.

 

If we move before Super Bowl XL, I'll be impressed.

Are there anymore screenshots you guys can give us? Or will it basically be the same thing?

 

The overall look is similar to the current boards. If there's anything specific you want to see, feel free to request it.

 

Damn. Still waiting on IGN, eh? You'd think they'd have figured that the post movie boom would have died down, and they could hand over what we're waiting for. Maybe they're waiting until after the DVD release...

 

My guess is that they'll do something sidious-like and move the boards around midnight on November 1st - which is the day of the ROTS dvd release.

 

It would probably be the perfect time to do it, if you think about it. Everybody's going to be at home watching it and not be online.

 

Just tell us when we've arrived, and that we got there ok, pu-leez. so we won't worry if our behinds arrived with the up fronts, too...

 

I thought I remember you guys saying that the new forums weren't going to have this type of username colors...Is that true? If so, could you post/send me a screenshot?

I'm not sure if they've managed to diversify the colours as of yet, but as far as I know, vBulletin only gives you a font colour per usergroup, not background colours and not individually. I think.

but CRs are automatically blue that way


I wonder if we'll create a bitter ex-mod usergroup?

 

I believe Dingo coded in usercolours for those who need/deserve them.

And actually, can I get a screenshot of how the User Profile editing / Avatar selection looks? I'm curious.
