Why? Someone needs to get a life. Sports is not that important.

In my opinion I believe that the boy in question should have won the award. If he is the best he should get the credit he deserves. As far as I can tell, the trophy is for the best player and he seems to be number 1.

His father shouldnt sue but should motivate him to go whip some a$$!

    You cant win them all....

There's no doubt he had better stats and the fact that he had more assists doesn't point to him being a puck hog. But there are still many other factors that can contribute to a player's value to a team.

The stats seem to indicate he should have won the award but instead of crying about it he should go and work on the other parts of his game that would seem to be lacking and use this as motivation. It would hardly be the first time that someone had better stats but still didn't win an award. Barry Bonds, Ted Williams and Mario Lemieux were all the "victims" in similar situations.

If he goes to cry about it then her certainly doesn't deserve it. Part of being a valuble player is knowing how to be a good winner and a good loser.

The great athletes would use this as motivation.

Back in the late 90's when Michael Jordan finished 2nd to Karl Malone in the NBA MVP balloting, he took it out on the Jazz in the Finals. He let Malone have the individual award and helped his TEAM to win the championship.

Crying over an individual award and deserting a team over it sounds selfish. Suing over it is just plain wrong.

This is a terrible story. What an AWFUL life lesson for the kid. It's a hard knock, yes, but unfortunately life is not always fair. You have to take your lumps sometimes. Awards like that, sadly, are often political. But the kid that won probably had SOMETHING legitimate going for him.

It occurs to me if the father is this bad of a loser and is this intense about his son, maybe some of the voters in the MVP award had had unpleasant incidents with the father and took it out on his son. It's possible.

He is also demanding that the MVP trophy be taken from the boy who won it and given to his son, Steven, as well as the league's playmaker award, which was awarded to a different boy.

So, he's suing so they take away trophies from other kids. Isn't taking away trophies from the winners just as bad as his kid not winning? Wouldn't those kids be crushed?

    Amazing.

MVP is an award for character just as much as it is skill. The person who is 'most valuable' also has to be a respected team-player who plays the sport the way it should be played. If this weren't the case, then the defenseman who breaks his hockey stick over the opposing forward's knee-cap to stop a break away would win MVP every year.

If this boy had the stats for MVP, then I'd put money down on the fact that he didn't have the attitude.

I am sure there is a reason behind this kid not getting the MVP awards. He is either the dirtiest player that league has ever seen or his dad is such a jerk that the coaches did it just to spite him. My money is on both. They are probably both jerks. 99.9 percent of the time a kid with that kind of stats wins the award. Those scoring stats are amazing. There is something behind all of this that they aren't telling us.

And people forget that parents these days take sports WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to seriously. Just look at that hockey dad back in the spring who killed a guy over a hockey fight. Beat him to death. I read a story on the Associated Press wire where a Texas cop paid a 12-year old kid to throw beanballs at another kid because he was the best hitter in the league and was facing the cop's son's team. Parents and sports are insane these days.

Like someone else said, stats don't mwant everything.

Case in point, I got an MVP award when I was in Junior High. Was I the best player in the team? No. Not even the second or third best player. But why did I get it? Because I played as a team, because I not only improved my game highly, but I was always striving to better myself. I gave it my all and it showed.

Now, I am sorry. Not only is seeking money damages stupid, seeking any kind of damage is stupid, even if he was not seeking money at all. What kind of message is that giving the kid? Not only that, demanding the other kid's award be taken away, is not only dispicable but selfish.

And judging from the way the father reacted, I doubt he trained his son to be a team and humble player.

And judging from the way the son reacted, deciding not to play because of some award, I doubt he was a team player. The kid was most probably a world class prick. Selfish and arrogant and a cry baby.

And now, with all this ruckus, no one will take him seriously again, least of all any of the other kids on the team.

A kid only knows what their parents teach them. If a kid sees his parents act a certain way for his entire life, then they more than likely will act the same way too. Sometimes the kid doesnt know any better because his parents are such dolts.
