I was reading this thread and saw Ghost post some sensationalist bull****, so I commented on it.
That doesn't mean I think he's displaying behaviour that nobody else in the world is displaying, nor that he is the only one I chide for it.
Make of that what you will. Which you will.

I fell for it again. I should not have answered you. You're not worth my time.

It's not sensationalist BS. Is something like this not newsworthy or worth investigating? There's a video showing the captain putting his hands on the flight attendant's shoulder when it looked like he was going to hit another passenger. There was a similar incident on another airline not too longer ago. It's worth mentioning, and speaks to the need of reform. Sharing the article is spreading the conversation that we need to rethink how our airlines do business. Your same rationale could be applied to any incident of a police officer shooting a young African-American man over the last few years that made the news. No, we don't know all the facts. Doesn't mean we can't talk about it, or bring it up. And I did say the airline did the right thing by suspending him pending investigation, unlike how United handled their incident.

The thread has the completely-not-misleading title of "Favourite airlines."

    Favourite
    adjective
    adjective: favourite; adjective: favorite
    1.
preferred to all others of the same kind.

    Airline
    noun
    1. an air transportation system including its equipment, routes, operating personnel, and management

I can only begin to guess the size and shape of the shoehorn you used to fit that story in here, but I'm assuming it's very close to the dead gorilla that broke your heart even though you'd never heard of it, and was not in any way shape or form, a celebrity death.

Ghost, are you ever critical of your own actions?

Do you understand the meaning of the word "sensationalist"? Have you tried to verify the slander you so happily shared? Are you sure racist police violence is a good analogy for a frustrated flight intendant?

And when you say you just want to "spread the conversation that we need to rethink how our airlines do business", on a Star Wars message board, don't you think you're being a bit silly and that you may be taking yourself a little bit too seriously?

Yes, I am. And I wouldn't have posted this here if I knew it would make such a fuss, as I said a page ago. People were also discussing and joking about the other incident in this thread, so I added this one in here too. Especially for anyone who was thinking American Airlines was their favorite airline or so much better than United Airlines (though at least they suspended this flight attendant, handling it much better than United). I expected people to react to it, that something similar might have happened again so soon, then maybe joke about how they're adding AA to "the list" or some other JCC joke, and then move on.

And no, it's not sensationalist slander. So much is witnessed in the video, though it doesn't show every side of the story it's not like there's no evidence, and I'm glad it's being investigated because I'm usually never on the "definitely guilty, punish them!" bandwagons that go around. And yes, in the last incident (just days before this thread was made), it clearly was a law enforcement issue. This no law enforcement were involved, but the flight attendants do enforce the rules of the airline. So it's a better analogy than many other possible analogies. The point was that it's good to get people talking about controversies, because the airlines are years-overdue some reform, at least in the US, and this helps spread the word and build pressure for that.

And I brought it here to the JC because it was one of the few places I didn't see people talking about it yet, and people here usually tend to be very interested in stuff like this. The forums exist as a place to share things and discuss/debate things... you know full well that this isn't just a Star Wars board. I don't know why out of the hundreds of thousands of stories shared on these boards, this article I posted is the straw that broke the camel's back to you, so I'd appreciate it if you stopped singling me out, thank you. Besides, it's time to stop derailing this thread in backlash to an aside I made last page.

(Also, I'm frankly tired of feeling like, when ever I try to ease up and relax with my posting, it's misinterpreted and people gather the pitchforks instead of giving the benefit of the doubt, you'd think being here for 15 years and some 20-30k posts later would make me seem a little familiar, instead of constantly feeling like I'm walking on eggshells around here with someone ready to pounce. But no, a quick aside here on a relevant news story of course had to lead to something, in this case it's you SuperWatto singling me out and implying in post after post nonstop that I'm malicious and mean-spirited and careless and a nasty arrogant shallow overconfident lying BSing self-centered gossip-mongering fool. Is that really what you think? I'm sick of being treated like this.)

    Hey, don't derail the thread!
Ghost posting off-topic bull****: perfectly fine.
People critically responding to Ghost: derailment! Derailment!

No the topic is just "favourite [things that are somehow somewhat related to] airlines".

Like, any airline that served fresh stroopwafels would be my favourite!

My favourite [thing to pointlessly do is to post stories about a badly behaved] airline [which in this case was American Airlines].

Totally the point of this thread.

Qatar Airways is probably my current favorite airline, even with a nightmare flight out to Doha last week.

Sorry for posting a side story about an airline, and why it wouldn't be a favorite airline of mine (but still better than United), and making this thread go off the rails and turn into another "let's criticize Ghost about how he RUINS everything" thread, and it continuing even after I apologized and signaled for it to move on a page ago. But I'm sure I'll be blamed for derailing this thread too. Perhaps I should have known it would turn out like this, perhaps I think too highly of people to think I can get away with posting something only 50% on-topic in these "very serious" JCC threads.

How about if everyone goes back to talking about airlines instead of each other? There are a number of meme's, gif's and links in this thread that are no less derailment than Ghost's post so stop picking on one single post as if it's the only one. Do we have to turn the plane around?

We could even try asking me about airlines. I've flown a lot of them in the last few years, and on most of the planes (though not some of the new redesigns of the older planes). I'm happy to give impressions of anything I've flown on, or heard about from other frequent travelers. :p

International: Last two international flights, I flew Delta (I didn't pay for the tickets, only the upgrades to Delta Comfort/First class) and it was decent. I like Aer Lingus, always have a good experience with them when flying to Ireland/GB. Flew Norwegian to Denmark and OMG THOSE SEATS ARE HORRIBLE. Air France is aight too.

American airlines/carriers - domestic and international - have a reputation not far off that of aeroflot. Deserved or deserved?

They were both bad in different ways -- but my understanding is the new Aeroflot planes are actually quite nice. If something breaks on them you're still going to get a Russian "Eh, what are you going to do..." and you probably still don't want to make connections in SVO, but I'd totally fly 'em.

Also, the US airlines aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be if you consider two factors: 1) the passenger load, and 2) the fact that the vast majority of the flights are roughly the same as a regional flight on, say, BA or SAS -- those planes suck too (and in some ways are worse).

Nothing will compare with a ME3 flight experience, at least in a forward-cabin, or a Singapore Air experience on an international flight... but even Singapore (KrisAir), Cathay (DragonAir), etc. break out their regional flights onto a separate fleet/company.

Also, for the record: China Airlines -- very bad. Air China -- good.

Uh wow so page 3 was a trainwreck. There should just be a singular thread in Comms where people post their angry click baity articles (along with the same tired "lest we forget, on this day, happy birthday to" posts that keep popping up in several threads here) and get it out of their system. I'm not even joking at this point.

But anyway, friends, I might be traveling to Colorado this summer to visit a friend, so I'm debating if I should fly there or drive. Which would be cheaper and more sensible?

Good fares, no baggage fees, open seating, crew is friendly.

Now the actual planes themselves aren't anything to write home about but they serve the purpose.
