nadal pulled out of the paris masters with an abdominal injury. djokovic will claim the number one ranking next week.
Radwanska's retired at age 29, citing training/physical difficulties. Shame that she never got a Slam, but she was in the conversation among the top 5-10 players in the world for a long time, and always a popular player. I'm sure her contribution to Polish tennis will be seen in future generations.
I’ve kept up a bit with the tournament, but admittedly I taper off a bit after the US Open, until Melbourne. Saw he wrecked Big John the other day. I’ll try to catch the replay on Tennis Channel. Glad he’s doing so well!
And now Nadal has pulled out of Brisbane ahead of the AO... Only watched the highlights of the mixed doubles with Federer and Williams. Looks like it would have been fun to watch. A shame it was the Fast4 format though. Also disappointed to hear that the Aus Open will now have 10 point tie-breaks at 6 sets each in deciding games. Sent from my SM-T713 using Tapatalk
i hope rafa can go, but i'm getting pretty excited for the first major of the year regardless. only a week away!

Melbourne is the sole redeeming aspect of January. Ridiculously early morning tennis, powered by coffee, is the best.
One can see that you folks don't have holidays in January otherwise. To us, Melbourne is like cherry on the cake AND if things go well, another excuse to party.
Yeah, wants to retire after Wimbledon, but doesn't know if he can make it through the Australian Open. I know most of you prefer the other three, but Murray changed british tennis. I remember when people got excited because Jeremy Bates got into the second round of Wimbledon. In another era Murray could have won so much more. I know some brits became blasé about him getting to the latter stages of slams, because he did it so often, but is now going to be a massive hole. It will be a while until another brit is world number one, that is for sure. There are a few contenders, but the case could be made that he is the british sportsmen of his generation.
I hope he gets the recognition he deserves - Henman made some inroads in the late 90s/early 2000s, but was never really considered in that top tier with Sampras, Rafter, Agassi, and a few others, even though he made some good runs at majors. Murray certainly pushed that further, as he was the best player in the world for a short time, and one of the 2-3 best for a few years. The hope is that his success pays off in future generations.
Kyle Edmund, out of nowhere, wins it all. Australian glory for British tennis! In two weeks you'll be saying "Andy who?"
i just watched the murray match. what incredible fight to force it to five sets. unlucky to run up against a good player who has been playing at his absolute best. a fitting farewell to melbourne even if it was a first round exit.
pretty awkward with the aussie host broadcast interviewer and murray he basically said hes going to have surgery and try and make a comeback if his body lets him before they play a video package of everyone wishing him well in retirement etc.
The unexpected first round exit of dark horse stealth frontrunner Kyle Edmund leaves only one British man in round two: Daniel Evans. Designated Fedfodder. Sorry @Diggy
i was really conflicted about monfils vs fritz because i love both, but i'm really looking forward to fritz vs. fed. and what a huge win for tiafoe! american men's tennis looking up a little maybe?
