I'll never forget watching Andy's second Olympic win. I was watching on my phone in an airport, then I got on the plane and switched to their Southwest TV feed. Being that you can choose to sit anywhere, two British guys saw I was watching it and asked if they could watch with me on my tablet during the flight. So we sat and watched Andy win his second gold. We chatted about why we liked him and how he became my favorite tennis player. I really hope he makes it to say his goodbye at Wimbledon. I love the guy and am gutted he's having to go out this way.
What a win for Sharapova. Damn, I was pulling for Woz, but that was impressive to see Maria back playing at such a high level.
some great tennis yesterday and today raonic vs warwinka was high quality then poor muguruza and konta didn't finish the match until like 3am local time today federer schooled fritz, sloane stephens had a hard fought match but got through in straight sets. match of today has easily been wozniacki vs sharapova with maria getting it done in 3 sets she faces home town girl ash barty in the next round also on the womens side of things we have a potential halep vs serena in the 4th round. some pretty big upsets here for the aussies 19 year old alexei popyrin played thiem off the court winning the first 2 sets and was 2-0 in the third before thiem pulled the pin. aussie media are excited about the potential of the junior french open winner from 2017. he plays another seed in poulle tomorrow battler alex bolt beat gilles simon in 5 sets bolt gave the game away for almost a year before coming back 20 year old kimberley birrell beat donna vekic in 3 sets and faces kerber in the next few hours de minaur on court now against nadal will be a great experience for him
Sharapova's a problematic tennis star, sure, but I loved the way she played last night. Hope Cilic can take this thing to a fifth set.
The grunting in tennis has never really bothered me - I grew up watching Seles and Agassi, and lots of people I played against in high school did it, so it's really just part of the game to me.
tiafoe! also rafa cruising into the second week. things should get tougher from here, but it's a good sign.
Young Aussie alexei popyrin has fought back from 2 sets down and in trouble in the 3rd to take the match to a 5th set against The 28th seed Lucas Pouille *edit runs out of gas in the 5th Has a future needs a better coach and to work on his fitness
So I watch a bit of Amanda Anisimova's match from Thursday. Holy hell can that young lady cover some ground. It's like playing a wall against her!!
Some exciting match ups cilic vs Bautista Agut has 5 sets written all over it. Two young guns get to take on two of the best ever, then we can see if zverev can take the next step or will raonic be too powerful Women’s side Can halep stop Serena, can the 17 year old get past Kvitova, will Barty make it pass Maria or will she be outclassed Been a good tournament
barty/sharapova has turned into something special. edit: and barty pulls it out! awesome to see her get into the quarters, and great fight from maria. now go tiafoe!
staying up for tsitsipas/federer. it feels like one of those matches we could ultimately look back on as a changing of the guard. i don't necessarily like tsitsipas's chances to win, but even winning a set or just hanging with fed could be a breakthrough.
Tonight felt like the changing of the guard shades of Federer vs Sampras Well done Tsitsipas big future can’t wait to see him win slams The umpire was shocking though he went over the time limit so many times and hardly got called for it Sad to see the goat lose
and then John Macenroe quoted you after the match: "changing of the guard". Federer put it a bit differently: "he played better."
