Sorry if this double posts, I tried once and it didn't post up here.

I tried it (at least the pin-back portion of it) and it is WAYYY easier to do than I thought.

If I can get someone to take pics, I will post links.

Just a little advice for the seashell like hairstyle padme wears with the pastel lake gown. I just had that done for prom last weekend, and it isn't as hard as it looks. You start with teasing your hair, my hairdreser refered to it as "padding", because the top of padme's hair does seem a bit raised. Then, there are two little rolls of hair that are in front, which the first headband is tucked into. Then, you make another roll, which blends into the first one you made, to hid the second headband. You do that all the way down till you get to the rolled part. That's basically a ponytail tucked under. Lots of pins. I don't have pictures yet, but it looked really really good. I'm no hairdresser, but that's basically what she did. There was a fake hair piece near the back to add length: near the back of the rolled part, you can see that there is a LOT of hair back there, but besides that, it's mainly natural hair.
Hope this helps! I danced all night long, and it stayed up.

I just thought of the best hairstyle ever!!! :D

    What you do is:

Brush you hair down so the part is in the middle. Then you take some hair from the side ( which ever side you want ( from left or right)) and braid it all the way you can. Keep it right behind your ear! Then you loop it to make a U in the middle of your head and pin it in with bobby pins. I would say two of them. ( one going left and the other going right) And the same with the other side.

It is kinda like half up and half down but with braids. This hairstyle is not in SW.
Please tell me how it went for you! :)

It shoulda been, because these SW hairstyles are for the birds.

Who does their hair up like that to go running around in a field? Or wears their best dress to do same activity?

Or spends all that time putting that bun up just to go tramping around in Mos Espa all day? At least Leia's hairstyles made sense for the activities she planned to do.

George, George, George. A little common sense?

Actually, if I'm picturing that right in my mind, it sounds a lot like Depa Billaba's hairstyle. Except I think she has two looped braids on each side. I'd have to check my reference images, which are at work.

EDIT: This picture shows part of the double looped braids.

Heres a pic of my hair from the other day, sometimes for work I'll do a SW style or looking hair do, this was inspired by the 'do worn by Leia in ESB in cloud city. http://photos.imageevent.com/benaequee/cotumes/large/Lake%20Dress%20005.jpg

Whose links? If it's Benae's that doesn't that's because the boards get picky with certain characters within the linke (like %) sometimes.

If you're talking about the two I posted, just look up Depa Billaba in the starwars.com databank and click on the various images included in the profile.

"Ummmmmm. I don't think "George" thought of these hairstyles."

He told the costumers/hairdesigners what he wanted, and then OK'd the final version. If he didn't want it that way, it wouldn't be in the movie.

Ah, I saw the question about Padme's makeup and thought I'd dig up the InStyle article from June 2002. It actually tells you how to do the hairstyle and makeup for the nightgown outfit (the one worn when Anakin is meditating in the morning)- Natalie's hair is virtually the same there as it is in the Blue Tatooine Poncho outfit.

In my opinion, the eye shadow the makeup artist describes was probably also used on the picnic outfit. (I lucked out - I've used those colors for years and had them on hand when I put together my Picnic Costume). I'm not sure if the picnic lipstick is the same as what is described below. I do believe a sheer lipstick was used - or perhaps a sheer gloss w/o too much of a laquer look to it. A kind-of pinkish mauve, without being too purple of a mauve. A 'natural' color. However, I think it's more important for people to use a natural looking lipstick that looks good with their own skin tone rather than run out and get the exact color Natalie has on. (If you have a warmer skin tone than she does, a mauve color might look icky).

    IN STYLE

Hair - Love wanted to achieve a "romantic, gypsy" look. So after Portman's just shampooed hair had dried naturally, Love added waist-length extensions to the actress's shoulder-length strands and set half-inch sections in heated rubber rollers for 15 minutes. She skipped brushing the hair in order to keep the ringlets intact. To open up Portman's face she swept back side sections above the ears and secured them with tortoiseshell hairpins.

Skin - Vanderwalt started with Lancome Maqui-Libre foundation in Beige Naturel III. "I wanted a light base that would even out the skin tone but was sheer," she explains. To add a "peachy tone" to Portman's cheeks Vanderwalt applied Stila Convertible Color in Camellia on the apples of the cheeks. She finished with a dusting of Shu Uemera Loose Colorless powder.

Eyes - Vanderwalt brushed MAC Bark eye shadow on the lids and MAC shadow in Quarry on the brow bones before applying one coat of Max Factor 2000 Calorie mascara in black-brown to top lashes.

Lips - Wanting a shade similar to Portman's own lip color, Vanderwalt went with the obvious choice: a sheer Stila shade inspired by the star and called, appropriately, Natalie.

How would you put fake hair on your own? Do you just clip it on??

Some companies make clip in hair extensions. I guess the clips are small enough to hide under your own hair. This web site has some info on hair extensions: http://www.mhrw.com/w_hairextensions.html and I know I've come across other sites that sell hair extensions as well. Here is just one example: http://studiohair.net/mall/raquel-welch-hair-extensions.asp

Now, if you are talking about the fake hair in the buns that's easy. Just purchase some bun covers/snoods and fill them with fake hair. Then bobbypin them to the sides of your head. (Some people make pin curls on the side of the head to give the buns something to pin into. I didn't need to though.)

Ok, so this is a different genre than what has been mostly discussed so far, but...does anyone have any insights into the kind of hairstyles worn by Jaina Solo in the New Jedi Order books? And also how to do Tenel Ka's "warrior braids"? I'd really appreciate anyone's ideas. Thanks alot!
