my fav is my nomi outfit which i wore at the midnite show. i think any top which is more fitted makes it more feminine. i also a few years ago made a twilek jedi outfit. it was slave like in its appearance to reflect her people's plight. i cant find any pictures of it and my kids have since destroyed the headpiece. i will try an take pics.

The tunic is all one peice, and the shirt underneath is my $4 Value Village find. Its a bit short, but it does the job. The best part is, it's a V neck shirt, so I didn't have to do any mods to it!

Wow, Robin, I love that outfit! O_O It's so Jedi, but doesn't smother the female figure.

I just ran across this thread a few days ago when I was looking for ideas on how to create my wife a jedi outfit. I know that the author of the thread completed hers and wore it to the opening of Ep. III (great job by the way), but there seems to be quite a bit of interest on others' behalves. So, assuming someone is still checking it every so often and as an effort to get more ideas shown, this is the jedi outfit I'm looking to create for my wife. I decided I wanted the tabbards longer to give the eye an elongated visual effect of the body. Once I lengthened the tabbards though, I decided to combine them with the skirt/dress bottom. Above the belt, the dress tabbards would create the V-neck pattern as it comes together low on the tummy. The under shirt would replace the tunic designs, and it's low cut pattern would mirror the tabbards as an attempt to highlight the bust. I thought the belt and obi looked better lower on the hips as well. My wife really likes it, and now all we have to do is get it from PC to the fabric! Once we see the dress tabbard in action, she'll decide if she wants a long skirt or pants and boots. I just hope it looks as pleasant in practice as it does on the screen. lol Keep in mind that this is a sketch done on the rinky-dink little paint brush program built into Windows, but I like to do it there because I can mess around with colors a bit. I just hope I understand how to include the link.

what I found when desiging my costume was that the tabbards are the sticky widget in most female Jedi designs. To be frank, I find they do nothing for the female form (i.e. bust is completely lost or made to look frumpy) I've heard tacking them down or using embroidery to mimic tabbards suggested as alternatives, but I was left skeptical.

If you want the longer line created by having a lower belt(i.e. not at the natural waist) I wouldn't suggest doing tabbards. They'll just hang like 2 dead snakes over the shoulders. I would go for a very fitted tunic, or one made out of stretch or knit fabrics, and then if you really want the tabbards, to half tabbards hanging from the belt. That's just my $0.02.

Just my thoughts: one thing you might want to consider doing is adding in some more design-like decorative elements to it, like trim, applique or other more decorative touches. Nothing too fancy or overdone, but something that gives the standard robes a more delicate feel. Take for example the tabbards on the Jedi Librarian's outfit: covered in nice scrollwork.

I actually used bellydance costumes for ideas too, however not any kind of bellydance skirt but bellydance pants. There are instructions for how to make them here: http://www.shira.net/cg/harempants.htm and they're really easy. The "panels" that one of the illustrations on that page show also might work as an alternative to tabbards: I did something similar to that with my costume. I'll post pictures of my costume as soon as I can.

that sounds like a very interesting concept. I happen to be in the middle of designing a costume using a harem type outfit (for a non-star wars costume). It will be intersting to see what a harem inspired jedi costume looks like

Well, it's really only the bottom half of the costume that was based on that. It was sort of a last minute costume, and since I do bellydance I knew I'd have no problem with those pants.

Unfortunately you'll have to wait a while. My friend was going to send me pictures but she hasn't yet, and I'm about to leave on a 3 week vacation. But pictures will come...eventually.

So, I had this idea for a simple but I think quite possible effective female jedi costume idea. Bare with me because I have no scanner to scan a sketch of what I speak of. I am picturing a black bodice...I actually have one that looks exactly like this:[image=http://www.allstarz.org/users/simpsonsisters/gallery/photoshoots/Dessert/01.jpg]only black, then ofcourse the utility belt, skin tight pants and then a piece of cloth that extends from the belt to about the mid-calf in front like this: [image=http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/jediA-KS/jedibabe.jpg]only not that color obviously and then knee high boots similar to those of Aayla Secura, plus the usual Jedi Robe. What you all think? And it'd be a mix of dark browns and black depending.

well i have not posted here since I got my outfit, I posted in the "black jedi outfits" thread...

Maryanne made me a fitted corset piece with tabbords over my shoulders-under the corset, hanging below the piece as well, it has a full sleeve undershirt, loose pants, and an anakin style robe in a sofe almost vlevetly feel fabric. Wish I was clever enouugh to scan a pic, Ill try another time. So it looks almost maul- like- but feminine because of the corset. It has tiny gold details in the corset that duplicate in the robe and clasp. vety pretty. So I went the Dark Jedi route, and it turned out quite well.I love it!

This is a really interesting thread! The suggestions of cutting the tabards differently are really helpful. You all have come up with some great ideas and make me want to do a jedi of my own!

One idea I had a while ago was to borrow from the cowgirls of old and start with this kind of skirt: Split Skirt Pattern. They could ride and rope while still looking feminine. I think I would also embelish that tabards in some way similar to Jocasta Nu, as was mentioned above.

    Regards,
    M.

I'm doing a fairly traditional jedi costume, sans tabards. Going for more of a kimono look for the outer tunic, about mid-thigh length, with large sleeves, and a wide obi. Once I get that done, I've got a fairly neat idea for a dark jedi/sith costume. Somehow, I think the sith can get away with showing more skin. For the sith costume, I was thinking about doing tabards...only. No tunic, just something like a tube top underneath for modesty, tabards, waist-cincher/corset style for the obi, and what are called "sarong pants" with sandals. More of a summer costume, since the many-layered jedi costumes can get quite hot. Dark side in the summer, light side in the winter. Ultimately, it'll depend on how well my jedi costume turns out and how much work I want to put into a sith costume. Of course, I'm a fan of modifying costumes and continuing to work on them even after they are "done."

I'm planning on doing a female Jedi costume for Hallowe'en, and I've actually been thinking of how I can make it recognizable as a Jedi outfit, but still make it flattering and feminine. Needless to say this thread's been pretty useful. :)

So far, what I've thought of is doing a shortened kimono style top (no tabbards [sp?]), with an obi and a belt, and narrower pants (which I already have. Yay. XD). I'm keeping the robe as is, except the colors. My outfit is going to be Dark Jedi, because I don't like white. XD I have no idea what I'm doing about the boots, but I'll figure that out eventually.

I still think I need a bit more planning, but I'm closer than I was. :D

I'm doing a Sarissa Jeng costume to wear while my Bespin Leia's in progress, 'cause I need a canon costume for RL events 'til that gets finished. If you don't know who she is, there's a picture of her here. I'm excited, I've just about finished it. I'll post pictures once it's all done :)
