Well, time to say goodbye to my Linkshell. Thought I'd make it official in case any of you wonder why I'm not on it anymore.

Thanks for everything. You all were nothing but jerks to me in the end. So enjoy. Couldn't even wait for me to do Genkai.

    Here's a little something.

Saturday, they all wanted to start Genkai without you. I said no, I ain't doing it without you cause it wouldn't be right.

Thanks for making me look like a chump. Couldn't even respond to my /tell asking why you all couldn't wait for me.

And it's not just about Genkai. Other things as well.

Sorry if I may sound ranting, in a thread about a game on a msg board of all places, I'm just feeling very dissapointed right now.

    Good luck to you all.

And to everyone else that has been super nice and and gratious towards me, you know who you are, thanks a bunch and hope to stay in touch with you throughout my future FFXI gaming ^^

I'm sorry Son about how your old LS treated you. [face_plain] I'm trying to convince my shell to let you in, cause we're just cool that way. But I'm going out of town now for 5/6 days so my campaigning was kinda put on a halt. :(

I got my PLD up to 50 before leaving, which is what I did my best to do and now I'm either farming or attempting to do genkai which is a royal pain in the ass to do.

However, I'm currently thinking about selling my account on Ebay or something.

    Read this

I was recently going through threads at Allakhazam, and came upon this story. It's translated from Japanese, and is in slightly broken english. But nonetheless, was well written and heartfelt.

It reminded me of all the good times we've had, and made me come back here and read through all of the stuff we posted here about our early experiences, and the screenshots from our adventures.

I think in my race to have the most uber equipment and high job levels, the game is becoming too mechanical, and I've forgotten about what made this game so much fun in the first place. How important my friends are. I'm not embarassed to consider the few of you who have been with me since the beginning, close friends and not just some people I play an online game with.

    /end corniness and reminescence

All MMORPG's have that trap. I've delibertly avoided it in Galaxies, instead of grinding money runs, I've visited every POI and I'm doing every themepark I can. I play for the experiences, not the acheivements.

Out of curiosity, thought I'd bump this, and see if there are any new players to FFXI from the JC.

    P.S. Where are you Clix?

Now this is a thread I havn't seen in a long, long time.

I kinda miss the game, now that I quit (and sold my account) for 50 bucks. But oh well, I can't restart now, as I refuse to hit level 60 PLD again. And go through all that AF crap, farming, etc.

How are you doing in it Ak? You were 62 when last I knew. You hit 65 yet?

Rich is 'Quintath', a Level 12 White Mage on the Asura server, if anyone ventures out there.

I play on the Remora server. My name is "Ryulei" and I am a LvL 13 WAR Mithra.

About a half a year ago I played and had a LvL 20 WAR, but quit...

I thinking about quiting again, though, and playing SWG.

Awwww, isn't it cute Ak? Its a bunch of newbies!

You two should've mentioned something, we could've bought a world pass, so the two of you could've been on Fairy with Clix (Son_of_the_tear), Akheron (fitetounite), Dorme (Dehrian) and myself (Tahiri).

Hey, good to see you're still around. :D

50 bucks? Wow, that's cheap, you probably could have gotten a couple hundred at least. Then again, the accounts can take forever to sell, and the money you got, paid for the game aside from fees. ^^

My DRG's 65 now, but I'm considering leveling something more "end-game" friendly. [face_frustrated]

Although I may quit altogether within a month or 2, depending on how this latest update turns out. It's being hyped up to be an economy fix, and the start of SE attempting to change the game's time-sink nature. Sounds more like wishful thinking to me though. :p

Have you looked into WoW at all yet? I have alot of friends from my LS who moved onto that, so far they all love it. Another motive for leaving FF. I Just need to get the PC up to par.

Yeah, this place is my home once again. :p

Yeah, well it was 49 dollars actually, but its just easier to say 50 bucks. You're right, I could've gotten a few hundred for my account, but I didn't wanna wait forever to sell it on my own. I figure this way its a no hassle sale, over and done with in a few minutes on one of those sites that make enormous profits from this sort of thing.

If you wanna see my account click here and scroll down until you see "Account: 60 Paladin/44 White Mage/30 Warrior! AF Gear, Good Subjobs and More!!!" Its going for 399 and I sold it for 49. Those bastards! But oh well, its gone now so I'm kinda happy.

Congrats on getting your DRG to 65 and sucks that you're stuck with a job that isn't 'end-game friendly'. What happened to your static? I thought you were with them. . . unless they all went to WoW?

That was another reason why I left, the economy in Fairy SUCKED. All the prices just kept on rising it was ridiculous. Spending 500k on a sword that a month ago was 350k, that crap was insane and it was for everything just about. The games time-sink nature? As in less addictive?

I was going to get WoW with a few RL friends and play it with them on a PvP server, but I decided not to. For two reasons, one I don't wanna get addicted to another game in my life and two, my girlfriend would kill me! :p

Yeah, I need a better computer myself if I was to run WoW. I can probably do it now, but it'd be all jumpy or something with me. :(

Bah, you know you want it. But not on a PvP server...bleh. I'm most probably going to be in soon, on the Lothar EST server. Would be cool to hang out again on another MMORPG.

Wow. I haven't played in over a month due to my move to Florida. I'm online now finally... but now I need an Ethernet bridge or hub since I am on a wireless network and the actual modem is not in the same room where my PS2 or my computer is.

I am debating if to go back or not. Not sure yet.

I kinda want to on principle, since the day before I left for Florida I purchased Cross Counters for my MONK for a cool 2.1 million Gil

    ><

I want to play with them again! But I was so damn addicted to the game!

    Arg!

They have WoW for Mac too. Thinking of trying that. Ak, if your going to WoW, let me know. Maybe I'll see you there :)

I looked into selling my account, but they offered me 48 bucks!

It's a lvl 62 MNK with over 6 million in gear, 575 thousand Gil on hand, full AF on two different job classes (a lvl 57 THF), rank 8, max fame, all jobs unlocked and DRK at lvl 50, BLM at 30, WAR at 37 and NIN at 30 and SAM at 37.

And on top of that, I may be flakey and a tad gung ho in game, but I am pretty sure I have a great rep in game.

And they offered me ONLY 48 bucks...

    -_-

    Holy ****!

Damn, you have a ton of crap! I barely topped one million and that was after selling all my crap just out of curiousity. And I got 49 bucks for an inferior account, which really sucks. You defiantly should get more than 48 dollars and I know what you mean about it being so damn addictive. FFXi is the reason why I refuse to play another MMORPG again in my life.

Some advice if you do sell yoru account. . . give away your stuff. You'll get 48 bucks if you have 0 cash and only AF armor. Or sell all of your gil and then sell your account, you'll probably make more. I think they may buy a million gil for about 50 bucks, or at least they did when I was looking into it.

    Yeah. Pretty lame.

I might try to sell it myself on player auctions so I can get a respectible dollar amount for it if I do decide never to go back.

Cause 48 bucks is just ridiculous and very very insulting.

Another reason I am considering to quit, is because sometimes I wonder what the point is?

The game is nothing more at times, than a pissing contest to see who has the bigger ****. In this case, who can play "dress up" the best with their character.

I mean, really. We exp to gain levels so we can wear new spiffy clothes and farm and garden our asses off so we could buy some spiffy gear.

Granted, some of the quests and missions were fun and I made great friends and hell, it was fun doing those LS events and helping people with NM battles and the such... but I feel the game is great in a spocial context, but the gameplay itself is lacking. And you need great gameplay mechanics to go with the social aspect.

Another problem, is that this game should not feel like a job. I mean, it is a chore to make Gil. I mean, a real chore. Boring. Even crafting, is a long chore and you need to have gil to invest. A lot of Gil.

Also, another problem with this game is a very particular play mechanic. Accuracy and the lack of accuracy items and those few that exist range from 600k to 10 million.

Which is a problem. Because this game throws out some very very very punishing accuracy problems for melee after lvl 50 that are just ridiculous.

Accuracy factor, IMO, should not have been a factor in this game. Or at least to the range that it is.

I would rather have performance and outcome be based on gear I buy that effects STR, DEX, AGI, ATK and Evasion.

Because after lvl 50, especially 55, Accuracy becomes such an issue that you have to neglect almost every stat and every armor slot piece and focus ONLY on accuracy if you are a damage dealing melee.

So it leaves the question... of whats the point? What should be a customizeble true RPG, turns into "how much ACC can you pack on your guy" RPG.

    And it is really lame.

And I hate the fact that you need high high lvl help to do any quest or mission or NM battle that you have to do in your current level range. That or get a full alliance... but good luck with that. Might take weeks to get something done cause no one ever wants to help, unless you offer money in return.

From what I hear from those who play WoW, making gil, crafting and getting gear is not only fun, but it is very friendly towards players instead of being punishing and boring.

I remember when I played Phantasy Star Online on my Dreamcast, I didn't have to worry about a lot of these things to have fun. There was no need to be an accuracy whore.

I wish I had sold my account myself, but I didn't want to wait around forever in the hopes of someone buying it for a more decent amount. That and I didn't want to get hit with the monthly fee that was going to get me in a week. So I got rid of it at a big loss of cash, but yet, part of me doesn't care to much anmyore. I mean the game is gone, I can't play it again if I wanted to and really its no different than just quitting and giving away all your items.

But the low price those online sites offer players is really insulting, as we spent a helluva lot of time (and money) getting to where we got. And you're right most of it was a 'pissing contest' and I fell into that trap as well, refusing to level until I had my next AF piece so I could look all cool at level 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60 and I know if I'd of gone on past then, I would've did the same. Gotta stay sadvanced!! Gotta farm my ass off so i can spend the next 3 days partying my ass off so I can get the 32k xp needed to level and at 200ish a kill that'll take a while!

The game was awesome in the beginning with all the exploring and the leveling and making friends, but once you hit the time to get a sub-job, it got old fast. Sure leveling PLD with my LS was fun, but then it was all xp grinding orfarming. Socially the game kicked ass, it was all a community event, which was great, yet sucked at the same time. What happens if you can't get help to fight an impossible boss? What happens if there is no WHM or PLD and then you can't form a party?

They really should've made it easier for players to solo instead of forcing us to party. And I know I had the worst luck possible in ever finding help and if it wasn't for you and Fite, I don't know what I would've done in some instances! Shouting in Jeuno for hours on end is not how I want to spend my time and my money in a game.

Since I ahve to go to work right now, I'll pick up where I left off tonight. :p

I spent days shouting in Jeuno so I could get help for my final AF piece. It was ridiculous. I spent more time in Jeuno than doing stuff.

I agree, at the start, it was incredible. I mean, I remember when me and Ak started out, he was the lowly warrior and I was the lowly BLM, no subs and we had so much fun just exploring and getting killed. Hell, I remember my first trip into the Dunes... I thought it was utterly awsome... how quick that opinion changed.

But then again, Dunes was a much better place when me and Ak started. But I guess that was because we started playing on like the first day that the game launched for the PS2. But in a couple of months, it turned into hell.

The original level cap for the game was 50. A part of me thinks they should have left the level cap at 60, right at your final AF. Cause I tell ya, those early levels are the best.

That was something I never got about the game, how the hell can you miss so often? I mean you're hitting something huge like a Raptor in Cape Terrigan, and that thing is impossible to miss. I honostly don't see how a Dark Knight, Paladin, Monk, etc. all manage to miss 9x out of 10.

The worst thing about the accuracy factor was if you were a ranger. I can't imagine spending 30-50k a *day* just to level. The arrows that they use are expensive as hell and most of the time the ranger misses (so much for being awesome shots) and the only way to hit more is to buy something that costs millions for +10 to accuracy. [face_plain]

I have several RL friends playing WoW and one was 57 as of Friday and he's quite wealthy. Its easy to level and make money there, wish FFXI was like that.

You spent days shouting? Good grief, that really bites.
Now I wish I hadn't sold my account back then, I would've helped you out doing that, even if it meant me shouting for days on end with you. I have a co-worker who is on Fenrir and she's a 59 DRG and all she ever does is sit in Jeuno and go LFG. Meanwhile her husband who is currently a 58 WHM goes off to do his own thing, if my wife was a DRG, I'd party with her just so she could get a party. Thats one thing I hated, some jobs just got gipped when it comes to invites. Sure a PLD and WHM are easy ones to level because people need you. But any other job can be tougher, with the exception of BLM, RNG and RDm, any kind of melee job and you get screwed.

And the economy was just horrible, I mean when I first wanted to get a Gluttony sword, or rather anything, the price would constantly rise. When I hit 56, I was looking into the Gluttony sword but it was about 250k and I didn't have thatmuch at the time, but I figured no biggie, I can't use it yet anyways. So when I hit 57 it was about 325k and by the time I got one, at level 60 it was 480k. The price never stayed still, it was always on the rise, not just for that but for everything. Everything in the game was getting more and more expensive. It was ludicrous, and while I did do some farming, I wasn't willing to spend forever farming with TH1. I'm sure you had it much easier Clix due to having TH2 with your THF, but TH1 sucks. :p

Yeah, when I first went to the Dunes it wasn't too bad, but in the months that followed I couldn't stand going there. I got lucky with PLD, as I didn't have too many deaths, but when I was leveling WHM, I'd die left and right. I'm still pissed that some ******* pulled a fiend right before I used DS+Curaga in the Dunes. Almost everyone in the party was in the reds, and the guy pulls a crab that was right beside us. Needless to say I was dead, the fight literally went:

    Tahiri uses Divine Seal
****** hits crab for 2 damage
    Tahiri uses Curaga
Crab hits Tahiri for 45 damage
    YOU *******!
Crab hits Tahiri for 60 damage
    Tahiri delevels to 16.
    DAMN YOU!

Now that wouldn't of been a problem if I hadn't macroed the spell, known he was going to do that, but no one in their right mind pulls when the party is in the red with little to no mp! Especially when its right beside you.

Chuck!! Great to hear from you! :D

Well, I broke down and got WoW a few days ago. I've created my account, but found out after installing that I need a new graphics card to run it. So it'll be a few more days before I can actually get on, but I'll be there soon enough.

Chuck, if you decide to try out WoW come to Lothar EST (PvE) server, same for you Errant! That's where I'm going to be. It would be awesome if we could relive the fun that FF held when we started almost a year ago. The early days of FF were great, everything was new, and it was an awesome adventure, we all shared. But now, it's like a damn job, and you guys along with many of my other friends are gone.

Everything I've seen and heard about WoW makes it look to have taken the bad things about FFXI, and made them right. Money's no trouble, it comes naturally while questing and xp'ing. The quests are actually fun, give good items, and even give good xp. You can solo through the entire game if you want, no need to worry about having the most leet job, you can play whatever you want.

And best of all, you can log in for an hour, get stuff accomplished and logout whenever you need to. You don't have to dedicate 10+ hours a day to do something, like in FFXI.

My FFXI account is still active, though I haven't played in over a week, for the exact reasons you guys pointed out. The pissing contest has gotten to me, I'm tired of people gloating, snubbing, and acting like all around asshats. The economy is crap, and SE doesn't care. The jobs are unblanaced, and in a game where you're forced to group, this is extremely important.

I still have a few good friends left in-game, (Most have gone to WoW) which is pretty much the only reason I log in anymore. Grinding out 16+ hours to gain 1 lvl so I can farm 16 more hours to have better equipment, so I can repeat the whole process over again, just isn't fun. Right now, I just feel like I have too much invested in the game to quit. That might change after I'm actually able to start playing WoW. Time will tell, but for now I don't plan on cancelling my FFXI account.

    Yo!

Good to hear from ya, man!

Yeah, I feel the same way man.

I have too much invested in FF and so I'm reluctant in quitting.

Only reason I have not been on is cause I just moved to Florida, and while I am online, I'm on wireless so my PS2 isn't able to connect. I need an ethernet bridge.

Today I'm going to the mall so I might pick it up today. The problem is, I have no idea how much an ethernet bridge will cost me. And the question at hand is, do I want to pay say, 100 bucks for a bridge just so I can get my PS2 running again for online?

I am still debating it. At one hand, it would be awsome to log back in and see all my friends. On the other hand, a lot of people are leaving and would I kick myself in the ass a week later after I fall back into the grind for spending 100 bucks?

So I might just go and pick up WoW today instead. But I got to see if my video card supports it. Not sure.

If I do pick up WoW, I'll go ahead and join your server. Would be fun. I'm probably gonna be a Rogue if I do go into WoW.

It looks like a total blast from what I've seen. In fact, my only complaint about WoW is that the only real DD job in it is rogue. No hand to hand style fighters :(

But yeah, it seems the new update really screwed the economy even more. 6k for half a stack of meats?!?! Insane!

I got into WoW a couple days ago after finally getting a new video card. I'm playing an Undead Mage, now at lvl 10. Gotta say, I'm loving this game so far. It's a lot different than FFXI, but an overall better game IMO. I haven't logged into FFXI since I started WoW. lol. Although, I don't plan on quitting just yet.

If you decide to pick it up, I'm on the Lothar server, my character's name is still Akheron. Hope to see you there. :D

You can check WoW's website in this link, to see if your vid card will run the game. Here

Oh, and the meat mithkabob thing...from what I understand, 12 meat mithkabobs is now an HQ synth, so an ordinary synth will only make 6 meats. An HQ +1 makes 6 chiefs, and an HQ +2 makes 12 chiefs. Like cooking wasn't a big enough money sink to begin with. SE really doesn't have a clue.

All the news about FFXI for the X-Box 360 got me interested in FFXI again. . .

Now I didn't go out and buy the game all over again instead I decided to hunt down and find this thread to read it. Good stuff. Good stuff. Oh the memories both good and bad.

Anyways this will also be the offical thread for the X-Box 360 version.
