Nope Tear, we get it included with the game. One of the benefits of having a later release date than the Japanese players. The next expansion however we'll have to buy.

I don't know how it will work on the PS2 version, but I read on the official site that PC users need to be sure to actually register the expansion pack for the changes to go into effect in the game. Seems kind of odd to me, unless I misread that part.

Yep, I had to register the expansion (since it is technically still seperate from the original. The expansion disc just comes packaged with the PC version).

i've been extremely impressed with both the community playing the game and the game itself.

i'm a lvl 11 Red Mage on diabolos and have been playing for just about 2 weeks. the combat is great, and the missions/quests are not overly tedious. exceptional graphics make for a very immersive environment.

the community is very cool. if you ask for help, chances are someone will be right there to help you. if you are in trouble with a monster chances are someone will heal you, buff you, or debuff the monster.

the other part that rocks is it is relatively bug free and there is a high degree of polish on the game. it helps that it was out in japan for a year.

i'm really happy with it so far. finally an mmo game that is worth the subscription.

Hopefully only a few more days until I get to play the game. I put my order in for my new PC today and am just waiting on it to be built. I'm expecting it by Tue. or Wed. of next week, but it may be a few days longer.

I went ahead and bought the strategy guide to do some further research on the character classes. I've changed my mind on the route I want to take in the game. I'm going to start as a White Mage. I decided on this because I now want to work towards the Beastmaster advanced job class. White Mage is a good support job for that class so it will benefit me in the long run to have it ready to go.

I may also work on building up the Black Mage job on the side at times.

    Man, I can't wait.

It's sad that this thread hasn't seen more activity as this is truly an amazing game.

Hopefully, once the PS2 version is released, more interest will arise from members here.

As I no longer visit, or post on, these boards on a regular basis I need to revise my original offer for supplying a world-pass to anyone interested.

If anyone becomes interested in a world-pass on my server (Kujata), feel free to send me an email to the addy. listed in my profile. If you do, please be sure to put a title such as "World-Pass" or something along those lines so it doesn't get lost in the spam.

A pass costs approx. 1000-1500 gil (in game currency) and is good for up to 5 people for approx. 5-7 days (I can't remember for sure on how long it lasts). So it would be best to let me know a couple of days before, so I can insure I haven't spent all my money working on my crafting skills.

This game is all about community, and helping others in the game is part of the fun for me. Just don't ask me for any funds to buy that shiney new sword...I spend my gil as fast as I get it most of the time. :p

Also, if you just happen to end up on the Kujata server, feel free to look me up. My in game name is Pippy and my home city is Windurst.

It hasn't been more active cause the game hasn't been released yet.

I know the PC version is out and about, but most have been waiting for the PS2 version.

This thread should be packed by then.

i have my copy of FFXI resereved and paid for in full already. So I can't wait!

I'll be on the "pending" boat concerning this game; right now, cash is tight - the main thing, for me, will actually concern spending $100 on the game with the hard drive. That'll be the toughest part. I have enough to buy it, but I'm going on a trip next month that will pretty much deplete my entire budget. If the trip gets cancelled or something, then I'll be getting this for sure. And if so, I'll be glad to meet up with some of you and go on quests and whatnot.

Well, obviously the trip is most important.

But when and if you do decide to get FFXI, let us now that way we can all do a lil' gaming together. Should be fun.

The HDD is pricey. But on the plus size, you get FFXI free with it, as the HDD without the game will retail for 99 bucks.

I want FFXI as much as the HDD myself. The HDD for storing saved games of all my library as well as to use with HDD enabled games such as Resident Evil Outbreak, which can be used without the HDD, but will suffer horrid loading times,

Well, no, the trip isn't that important. But I live in Kentucky and I hate this place, so getting away for a week or so would be fantastic. But yeah, even if I do go, it shouldn't be long until I get the game. I would have gotten it for PC but my PC isn't really good enough to run the game (though all I need is a better video card and more memory).

Bah, I just got the game on my way home from the dentist. Anyways, what server is everyone on? I'd hate to end up being a seperate server and playing with a bunch of people I don't know. :(

i am on Diabolos, my name Wonderboy.

the install is a pain in the arse. you'll have to d/l all the updates for it which at this point are many. the whole thing lasted about 4 and a half hrs for me.

btw-if there is a certain server you want to get on you dont need a worldpass. just keep creating and recreating the character until you get to the world you want. it took me about 25 minutes to get on the server i wanted. just do not start the game at which point your character is registered on whatever world is randomly chosen fo you.

I've gone and downloaded all of the updates (thank you cable modem!)

Now I'm stuck on the damn registration. Why the Sith do they need a credit card number for a free 30 day trial? Also, don't they have those cards that Galaxies and Everquest have?

Wow. 6 hours seemed to go by like nothing. :(

Yeah I got in okay. My name is Janson with the character idea being Tahiri. I'm located on the world Faeiry, which sucks, but I was too lazy to delete and delete and delete just to get on a certain world. :p

Alright. Just 3 more days until the game is released and I can finally crack this baby out.

Alright, so what server is everyone at or thinking of being in?

Like another poster mentioned... I too would rather do some gaming with people I already know.

    2 more days.

I've been waiting for this to be released on PS2, as I would rather play it on a console. I'm going to go pre-pay for it today, and pick up the network adaptor and keyboard.

I think it'd be great if a bunch of people from the JC could get together on the same server.

I'll update with the server I'm using when I get the game.

Apparently, from what I'm hearing; once you start out on one server, you can't transfer your character to another, later on.

So it would probably be a good idea for everyone to try and get on the same server right off the bat.

You don't get to pick your server, you're randomily assigned a server. However you can buy a world pass (via gil) which allows you to give out a password to 8 or 10 people to join your server. They can only create one character, unless you allow them to create more. So it would probably be best if the server with the most JCers combine their gil for a pass. I'm not sure how much a pass costs though.

I just found this article: World Pass

This also gives the locations where the World Passes can be purchased.

WP's are around 1000 gil, and you can invite 5 players with one. So if there are people here who are willing to buy one, and invite myself and other JC'ers, I'd be more than happy to pay them back the gil.

    I'm down with that idea.

I got my copy all pre-paid and would love to be on the same server as my fellow JCer's so we can all interact and do a little gaming.

Also, what is everyone's starting town going to be?

I would like to start off in a town where any of you JCer's might be at.

It doesn't matter what town, because as the game progresses, one can vist the other kingdoms and interact with others, including JCer's, in other towns.

But since the PS2 version already comes pre-installed on the hard drive, I can always just keep resetting until I land on the server I want.

    EDIT:

EV, what was your starting town and character class by the way?

I'm not quite sure yet what I want to be. I'm thinking of being a Taru (sp?) because they make good mages I hear. But it all depends on how I want to grow as a character. Because my three favorite class types in FF games have always been Black Mages, Fighters (monk) and Gunners (ranger). So I'm trying to decide between the three. I know Ranger is an advanced job... but it's a choice for later consideration depending what character I create.

I can't make up my mind and it's killing me. Game is 2 days away... the clock is ticking for me to pick a race and class.

I'm probably going to go with Hume, and start off as a Warrior or Red Mage.

We definitely need to get all the JC'ers together.
I've found a few message boards that are offering world passes for various servers. Errant mentioned being on "Fairy" and from what I've seen it's the 2nd newest server and one of the easier ones to get into. Maybe we should shoot for that?

I've got the cash to buy a pass for you all onto Fairy. Since you said it was a thousand gil, I can make that up easily enough (well not easily, but I can make it up).

I'm a female Hume with the class of Warrior and I must say I'm pretty damn sexy. [face_mischief] Since I started out as a Hume, I chose the Hume capital of Bastok, though you can start anywhere you want.

I don't mind shooting for "fairy". I'm all down for it. A server is a server. I will say this, Square did mess up in that department. They should have let people pick their server. I know 2 of my buddies who got the Pc version and ended up on different servers, which sucked for them until they got a world pass.

Well, just one more day. I have mine pre-ordered at Game Champ, so they will either have it in on Tuesday or Wednesday. Well, if you do the world pass thing, I'd definately pay you back the Gil.

But, on the same token, I can also just try the character delete trick until I get that server... which as you said is one of the easiest ones to get into since it is one of the newer ones.

Still deciding what I want to be...

The thing is you have to fill out a lot of information to get that one server. I think you might even have to create a new handle, since the first character you pick determines the server for all future characters you create unless you have a worldpass. So I'm not sure if you only have to delete a character or your entire handle. . .
