Yeah, but I want to level my BLM more. I could switch back over to RDM and go forward, but I really want to keep leveling my BLM. Odd thing is, I can take on even matches with my BLM, it's so strong offensively. Decent challenges are way too easy. I'm getting 150 exp taking on even matches solo. This BLM/RDM combo is a real powerhouse. That's why I'm leveling up so fast. I mean, I just started my BLM at level 1 what, two days ago? and I'm already at level 11. This thing just kicks butt. It's amazing the number of people I've got examining me now, because I just obliterate the mobs so quickly. This thing's a juggernaut.

EDIT: Tear, I sent the Traveler's Hat back to you. I don't know if you could equip it and the Cloak at the same time as a Taru, but as a Hume I can only equip one at a time, so I sent the hat back.

Upon hitting level 12, I can now survive solo in La Theine, no problem (as long as I don't venture too far east, that is.)

Question: when I hit level 18, who do I need to speak to & where to get the "subjob" quest?

Isacio in Selbina, which you can reach by going into Valkrum. When you enter Selbina, he'll be on the far right end of the shore. You need to give him the three items, and then you can return to your moghouse to activate your sub job.

I have recently bought this game and have yet to acquire a credit card number from my parents, but thats besides the point. Ive told my friends that i have got this game, and every single one of them have said that its a horrible game and that they wouldnt even consider playing it.

Anyone have a reason why they say that, and any counter reasons why i should play it?

I have no idea. It's my favorite game that I've ever played. The storyline takes a long time to develop, so if you're looking for something you can finish in a short period of time, it's probably not for you. It's something of a commitment time-wise.

yeah, most mmorpgs are very time consuming, but usually they dont have a story, they just let you level up and get strong to kill things. This actually has a story to it?

Yep, but the story points are slow in coming.

Ok. Ill be interested to see how that develops.

And ive finally decided what to be!!!
After much deliberation over the period of a week, I have decided that my race will be...:

    MITHRA!

    Starting job....:

    WARRIOR!

    Adv. job when possible...:

    SAMURAI!

And when i get that leveled up high enough...:

    DRAGOON!

I am very happy i have finally decided to do those things.

You'll need a sub job around level 18 well before you get to your advanced job. I recommend Thief or Monk. You'll get lots of parties with Monk, while Thief could help you with farming for items and getting gil. You'll find it hard to get into parties if you're past level 20 and you don't have a sub job.

    EDIT: Found this funny image

    lol

    That pic is too funny.

I'm gonna have to send you some of the funnier snapshots I've taken. Such as me and Fite, dead, on the ground with like 18 other bodies.

    :p

But yeah, Theifs and Monks are pure damage dealers in the game and become two of the best at it.

    Theif is great.

    BUT...

Only at lvl 15 and upwards.

Before lvl 15, you don't get many invites cause at 15 you get your special powers that transform you into a damage dealer and one who controls the hate in the PT.

So because of this, a lot of people tend to dolo Theif until 14 or 15.

    Fun job, though.

My playtime is going to be extremely limited for the next week. I'm going to be working 12 hour shifts through Monday, starting tonight, so I really won't be able to play with any substance till Tuesday or maybe even Wednesday. I'm just going to log on now and then and feed the chocobo so I can get that quest finished. Aside from that, we'll see what I have time for. Is there a moghouse in Jeuno where I can access my storage or change my job, by any chance? Also, do I always need to have my main job at twenty to rent a chocobo once I complete this quest, or will simply completing it be enough?

Jeuno has a Moghouse in every district. Just head north and talk to to the NPC outside the residential area to hook you up w/ a Rent-a-Room.

Unfortunately, even after you complete the quest, your job lvl has to be 20+ to rent a chocobo. :(
Unless you're in your home nation, then it only has to be 15+.

[face_laugh] That pic is great Dehrian.

I landed face down in a ditch on that one. "Dammnit Mcgrady!!"

My week so far was limited itself in playing, actually.

I'm looking forward to vegging during the afternoons on the weekend. :D

Gotta do the "Rescue Drill" mission in the La Theine plains.

    Level 13, here I come. [face_devil]

Ah, then they leave me no choice...

I must raise every job to 15 so I can rent a chocobo anytime I want.

    Mwahahaha!

I'm near done on the chocobo quest. Only two feedings left, then I'll head back to Bastok on my new steed. I'm running seriously low on gil, so I've been thinking about raising THF to 15 so I can use that for farming to make money to buy equipment and spells. I'll probably spend some time doing that for the next few days, since my online time is going to be very limited and really won't lend itself to party playing, which is where both my RDM and BLM are at now. I can raise my THF a bit now and then until I get some time to really sit down and play. I'll make RDM my sub, only because the hp benefit will be more helpful than my BLM, and I'd unlock cure after a handful of levels. WAR would be more ideal, but since it's at 1, I'm not sure it would really benefit me at all. Still, we'll see what happens. I'll experiment.

Had a horrible party experience last night.

Group of folks around my level (13) hanging by the outskirts of the Dunes, provoking and running toward the entrance.

Anyway, the party leader was.......... well............. bossy, annoying, and finger pointing. Yelling at people for fighting a goblin that aggro'd and what not. Didn't help that it seemed her boyfriend was in the party and they kept yelling at each other about who did what. Plus, they never decided what to do timely at all. Must have wasted a good hour last night just standing around, waiting for them to decide what to kill & how. So, after my 3rd and final death of the evening, I left the party.

4 hours last night, 2 deaths in 5 minutes (with a third coming later), overall only accrued 200 exp in the end.

    Ha!

    That's nothing.

Wait until you've been on long enough and you'll see the real high strung jerks... White Mages.

    Yes.

I know some really cool ones. But most I've met, were so full of themselves and were demanding beyond belief and were just plain annoying.

It's like, because White Mages are needed, they suddenly think they can do whatever they want.

I haven't run into any bossy WHM's yet. In fact, in most parties I've been in, I've either been the sole healer or shared duties with another RDM. It's rare for me to be in a party with a WHM. I've been in parties with bossy WARs or THFs, though. Whoever's pulling will occassionally act like they're Leo on the bridge of the Titanic: king of the world.

For some reason, though, I tend to be given control of the party everytime the leader leaves. I don't know why. I never ask for it. No matter who the leader is or whether I've played with any of them before, they give it to me. Kinda weird.

Got my WAR up to level 7 today. Trying to figure out what I should do next. I've got 10 lightning crystals now, and I really want two more so I can sell a stack at AHN. They sell for major bucks. So I think I'll stay where I am and keep leveling WAR for now until I get two more lightning crystals, at which point I'll either go back to BLM/RDM, or start leveling WHM. With BLM at 12, I could use it as a sub to WHM until WHM hits 24, if I wanted to.

Either way, my inventory is full with a bunch of spells for BLM and WHM that I need to learn, so I should really level those two so I can learn the spells and clear out some space in my inventory.

    Last night ruled.

Finally discovered that monks have knuckle weapons I can buy. [face_laugh] took me long enough, huh?

And they made an unbelievable difference. I went from fighting solo in La Theine and healing everytime to fighting 3 things in a row before healing (also helps that I finally got level 14) ;)

I also finished another quest, and figured out some of the economy and what to sell/what not to sell.

    Also planted herb seeds.

    Mmmmmmmm......... Herb.............. [face_laugh]

Well, i finally got the credit card from my padres, and i just finished all the registering crap... and then i click play, and there are an excess of 10,000 files to download.

    Holy fricken crap.

Star Wars Galaxies occupied 4 gigs of hard drive space upon installation, and after all the patches/updates, yet with this, im guessing there will be about 6 gigs of hard drive taken up, yet Galaxies seemed like a more graphically advanced, and huge place to explore. I dunno what all is in this game, but its gonna take me an hour and a half to download all this crap.

There is a lot to explore. I can't compare it to Galaxies since I haven't played it (I only play console games), but I've been playing FFXI for close to two months now, and have only scratched the surface of the areas you can go to.
