Set in early 1900s London, this is the true story of "Peter Pan" author James M. Barrie (Depp), whose friendship with the Davies Brothers and their dying mother, Sylvia (Kate Winslet), served as inspiration for his magical Never-Neverland.

I usually wouldn't be wanting to see a film like this, but the trailers have proved to get me interested this time around. I have a feeling Depp will do an excellent job in this, maybe turning out to be one of his best films.

    So, yes, i'll see it.

Hey, I killed your last thread about this, I'm sure I manage to kill this one, too :(

"trailers"? Is there a second one now? I only saw one.

I became a little Barrie/Pan/Neverland fanatic this year (even though I never read the books... o_O), so I'm very excited about this. I'm sure I'll cry ;)

Hey, I killed your last thread about this,

Whoa, did I already make a Finding Neverland thread? After reading that, I got some major deja vu. I'm gonna go see if I have, in fact, made this thread before (I didn't think I had when I made this, but now I'm starting to wonder).

Edit: Crap, there already was one here, but it wasn't started by me. I'll pm a mod and see if this needs to be locked or what not. Sorry guys!

You could go at night, you know.

From what I get, this is the story of the writer or Pan, right?

It is about JM Barrie, the writer of Peter Pan

    Yep! :)

And MasterKay, Finding Neverland is a perfectly legitimate excuse to miss work. :p

Unless Depp starts prancing around in tights half-way through --making him the laughing stock of the industry-- this movie is gonna be as lame as almost everything else he's done post-Donnie Brasco, (From Hell and Blow being notable exceptions).

I'm not saying he's a bad actor, because he's not. He just hasn't been picking scripts as well as he used to.

Well, in my opinion, all his movies post-Donnie Brasco are notable exceptions. For exceptional exceptions to the scripts he has picked I would include (along with From Hell and Blow) The Brave, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The Astronaut's Wife. Performance-wise post-Donnie Brasco, he has been in outstanding roles in movies such as Sleepy Hollow, Chocolat, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Secret Window. If you look at the wide range of all these movies, I think it's clear that he is still picking unique scripts and a variety of scripts. :)

It should also be noted that Johnny has said several times that he wants to make more movies that his children can watch. He sees his movies as what his children and others will remember him by, and that has affected some of his recent choices. Exceptions: The Libertine, Once Upon A Time In Mexico

Dudemeyster, you're totally right! He will definitely win more than one! How could I be so absent-minded? :p

Well, I've heard that the movies glosses over the fact that Barrie's relationship with the kids was quite possibly considerably less than proper, which could hurt any award chances.

Anyway, it looks like Johnny will have to find another role to chase an Oscar with because by most accounts Jamie Foxx has a lock on it with Ray.

?There were a couple of ways you could go with Barrie. One was riding on the coattails of all the negative hearsay. The possibility that maybe he was little sideways with the children. But ****, that?s an obvious way to go isn?t it??

I only saw one, too. I have no idea why i added the 's'. You caught me.

I can't say i've ever been a fan of the whole Peter Pan thing, but Finding Neverland seems like it's point is about so much more. It's supposed to be a true story, or so the word around the campfire says. When you truely understand the aspect behind the creator, you will get so much more out of the story. That's my opinion anyway.

Yeah, I read that article too :p
Why skipping that facet could hurt its chances for any awards escapes me but apparently those Hollywood types like the full story, at least in some things. Dumb, I know.

Yeah.. *sigh* Hollywood has been ignoring Johnny Depp for so long. It's time for him to get the respect he deserves, and "well he didn't fondle little kids in his movie" isn't going to cut it as an excuse. *sigh* :p
