That is exactly what Lando IS doing. Remember- the Alliance is convinced that they need to destroy the Death Star before it becomes operational and therefore nearly invincible. Lando is a gambler- the odds can still be long, but if they tilt your way, the payout is great.

Put another way- lets say for arguments sake that Ackbar does retreat and with minimal losses. What the hell can his small navy do when the fully operational Death Star appears over Chandrila and then Mon Cala and vaporizes the worlds? Which is the canonical outcome the Empire was planning for. If the Death Star is invincible and start zapping rebellious worlds, support for the Alliance would potentially disappear under the threat of total destruction.

The Alliance is, quite literally, fighting for the off-chance that Han and the strike team succeeds. Once Ackbar commits to that and the entire fleet engages the Imperial Navy, they can only win IF the Death Star is destroyed. If Han fails and the shield stays up, the Alliance is doomed. Those are exactly the high stakes that the film conveys.

If the rebels were outgunned and outmatched to the degree you were proposing: 20 MCs vs an executor(over 100 ISDs worth in firepower), 2 Battlecruisers, and 30+ ISDs, they would have been outgunned to such an extent that no time would have been bought at all. Even if we generously assume that each MC is a direct analog to an ISD, and ignore any ship smaller than an MC(of which both sides have multiple according to many sources), that is a 7:1 discrepancy. I just can't imagine that kind of battle lasting as long as the movie requires.

Even as a gamble it makes more sense as a roughly peer battle.

I mean I assume the Executor-class is worth ten ISDs myself. Is that inaccurate?

Personally I think the Executor is easily worth 40 or 50 ISDs. It does have more blindspots to offset that, perhaps.
By mass alone it's about a hundred times bigger - I widely hear?

19 by 6.4 kilometre and over a kilometre high or more is a lot of mass.
Whilst the X-W Alliance upgrade project gives it a phenomenally high shield strength over a hundred times higher - if I recall?

Conservatively, 288,000 to 480,000 SBD seems probable.

By volume if you do the math it's 200+x an ISD

According to some sources it at least has the firepower of 100 ISDs, which serves as a nice bare minimum.

I guess because the performance of these ships is so poor, it's hard to imagine.

    Well that's cool, though.

    Nick will be happy.

No, they were lazy and just copied the winged MC95 variant from TROS. [face_plain]

Someone should start a wiki dedicated solely to documenting bad Star Wars comic traces.

Ooo oo, got a picture? I wanna see this. I always did think the Taiidan ships reminded me of SW Imperial ones.

    Sure
    [IMG]
And a game screenshot for comparison:

Also, the other ship I mentioned:
    And comparison [IMG]

And I think that ship behind it might be Omega's ship from the Bad Batch but it is hard to tell since that scene was dark.

Haha, I don't think I would've caught that since they swapped out the Taiidan yellow for gray.

Oh what I would give for the glory days of Dark Horse art:

Well, that looks like a very fleet of foot vessel...

I rather think it has a lot of... sole.
And goes where many fear, to tread.

(I will see my self out of the door - and onto the matt)

Is the Adz-class a vessel with accurate or inaccurate art, do we feel?

Eh sure, let's go with inaccurate. We already had two Cracken's Threat Dossier ships overwritten, so why not the rest of them?

Also wouldn't mind a redesign of the Carrack-class and Dauntless-class cruisers.

The Republic-class stood, at very least, ditto thrustships, and so forth.

I still want to see official images of the Mediator-class battle cruiser, Ranger-class gunship, Proficient-class light cruiser, I'Friil Ma-Nat corvette analog, Ro'ik Chuun M'arh frigate analog, Uro-ik V'alh battleship analog, Suuv Ban D'Krid cruiser analog, Uumufalh gunship analog, Matalok cruiser analog, Republic-class cruiser and Rejuvenator-class Star Destroyer.

I always assumed every single Yuuzzhan Vong ship was unique...like Mon Calamari ships but even more so.

Yeah. It definitely varies from novel to novel and then the Sourcebook having errors. I've been thinking of creating two variants of the Vua'spar interdictor destroyer analog and the Matalok light cruiser analog (though it might be a heavy cruiser analog) to make up for the oddities in that.

I assume baby Interdictors start off corvette sized and grow up, myself, and Matalok’s can also be multiple sizes.

Some mature into specific variants, but otherwise that’s the way I generally take it. Most of the Vong fleet could be summarised as corvette, frigate, then destroyer, cruiser then Kor Chokk, worldship. The Guide to Warfare did a fairly good setup for this, no?
