If you want, I could ask Tim Veekhoven directly why he chose that figure.

Yeah, I'd be curious to know if it came from LFL!

Interesting. So not canon, but I appreciate his approach!

Well, this figure does appear in a licensed product, so I for one wil consider it as canon until contradicted by a "higher" source.

The older figure was never canon anyway - it was always an estimate. I would guess that it operated with the assumption that the engines were the exact same ones that are on the Consular.

If they are slightly larger though - the ship itself can be larger. I recall in TCW that the engine "exhausts" looked slightly different.

It might have gotten elongated for the Imperial version, iirc the engines were closer to the tower on the Republic model.

Keep in mind that Artistic Licence is a common thing in Rebels - going by what Pablo said about TIEs and Stormtroopers - just because it looks different doesn't mean it is different.

But it's a ship that originated inside that setting, not in some other source. You can't make an exaggeration from something that started out that way. Even more realistic styles use the same model as a basis.

Which may mean that the Rebels model replaces the TCW one in "canon appearance" - rather than the differences actually being treated as "real-in-universe" and being put down to technological modifications.

That said - if there's newcanon sources that specifically say the ships were modified, that fixes the differences as being real.

Interestingly the SW Combine site uses almost exactly the same length for the Arquitens (326m). Their image looks more like the TCW one than the Rebels one.

I distinctly remember there was a behind-the-scenes source - maybe the episode guide? - that indicated it was an upgraded design, not identical to the one in the Clone Wars.

Huh, I'd be curious to see a picture of the Neb-B & Arquitens-class side by side, as both are essentially frigates/light cruisers. I'm hoping that this means in the NEU canon that Nebbies aren't Imperial designs.

"This marks the debut of the Imperial light cruiser, a reworking of the Jedi light cruiser seen in The Clone Wars series. It was inspired by the transition of Jedi cruisers into Imperial vessels seen at the end of Episode III. The light cruiser is more than a simple repaint; it has some subtle updates in its design."

Hey there, fleet junkies! As I said in another thread, the results of the ILM Art Department Challenge are out on StarWars.com, and there a lot of very cool ship concept arts, not just in the winners' submissions, but also in the honorable mentions.

    Mario Alberti's submissions.

I only posted a few ship-related pics, but just go and have a look at everything. It's gor-geous! By all means, don't forget the honorable mentions.

I'm liking these takes on the aesthetics of SW designs, the differences between sharp angles and rounded organic looks, without necessarily using the Empire or the Mon Calamari as the sole creators.

Is that "updates in the artistic design" though?

That said, I could see it being the "Arquitens-II" to the Republic era's "Arquitens-I" given the precedent set by live-action Star Destroyers.

Minor changes.Mostly simplifying the model to replace with textures.

But they gave it a Star Destroyer-esque fin at the back and connected the engines more. It's just the same model with those additions, I assume. I might have been mistaken about the engine placement. Simply simplifying textures because of a reduced budget doesn't explain those additions. It's the same they did with the Gozanti to Imperialize it.

The Gozanti was changed a bit more than the Arquitens I'd say - shape of side fins, addition of turrets:

Yes, and it's the same principle, they wanted to show the Imperialization of things, more hard, sharp lines.

How big are those Imperialized Gozanti-class again? Smaller than a CR90, right?

68.3 meters, per Star Wars Rebels: The Visual Guide. (While the CR90 is 126.28, per the Databank.)
