Hmm, I think I see some visible weapons emplacements on that MC80... ;)

Because it's an official reveal from the Star Wars Show, I have no need to spoilertag: First Order Mandator-IV Dreadnought

Reveal of some new First Order The Last Jedi vehicles:

Definitely unique looking, I think its neat it is called a Dreadnought, because I love me some large Star Wars capital ships :) From what they show it sort of reminds me of the Vengeance from Star Trek in some ways. I know that did have some influence on the concept art in the Force Awakens. Can't wait for the cross section of it and see what it can do.

We just have to see those orbital cannons in action now, don't we?
And apparently this is not even Snoke's Mega Destroyer

    Per this interesting article: http://www.starwars.com/news/inside-two-deadly-new-first-order-vehicles-from-the-last-jedi

"The Dreadnought is classified as a Mandator IV-class warship, featuring two enormous orbital autocannons for large-scale bombardments and 24 point-defense anti-aircraft cannons on its dorsal surface. It’s also big — 7,669.72 meters in length, or 25,162.8 feet."

    This I found interesting:

"Basically, it evolved from story reasons because Rian needed a new battleship in the script called the Dreadnought. Essentially, it needed to be a ground-firing gun platform, and the other limitations that Rian put on me was he needed and required a flat surface with gun turrets on it. So basically, it’s an armored gunboat, an armored gun platform. It’s sort of a heavy artillery that’s much bigger than a standard Star Destroyer, about two-and-a-half times the size of a standard Star Destroyer. That was the original brief to me."

Mandator IV-class warship! Nice reference to the previous Mandator 1-3 found in EU. Few notes:
The hollow in the middle reminds me of Crimson Jack's Battlecruiser
I wonder if this is supposed to be an older design brought back into service. The Resurgent class has a smaller bridge due to the issues with the exposed bridge on the Executor and Imperial class, but this appears to have a very exposed bridge!
Who hasn't thought "why don't they put a massive cannon on or under Super Star Destroyer" at some point?
The First Order seem to have a thing for sticking giant cannons on things. I mean we have now AT-AT built around giant cannon (reminds me of the AT-IC a bit), Dreadnought with 2 Giant Cannons, Planet with Giant Cannon.

Well that's a neat EU reference. Especially given that the original Mandators were basically in-system fortresses.

If the First Order Dreadnought is the Sequel Trilogy's SSD, I can't wait until Episode IX when it crashes into Starkiller Base II. :p

Joking aside, I really want to see that Resistance capital ship that the trailer teases! [face_praying]

I rather like it. It's like a Fractalsponge design that's actually good. It feels suitably Star Wars-y in a new way, and there's something about the flat landscape transition into that monolithic T-bridge that's positively sublime.

The Mandator IV is a fine design - I'm more excited about the class name reference to Legends than I am particularly about the design itself. Perhaps the flat surface will be a target for our Resistence Bombers to strafe (though the surface surely wouldn't need to be flat only for that purpose).

    That being said,
I'm extremely relieved to see MSW confirm that this is NOT the Mega Destroyer they have been talking about (Jason tweeted this clarification on his account). I'm still hoping that that design is a bit less 'plain' than this one - plus, I was having a very hard time visualizing the Mandator IV in a movie fleet shot with Resurgents if it's only about twice as long. Hopefully MSW was actually looking at another finalized (no pun intended) design and not just an alternative concept for the Mandator IV.

Wow, I love this thing. So much better-looking than the Resurgent, and it's great that they actually called it a Mandator.
Still hoping that Snoke's flagship will be the EU Eclipse.

I am quite curious to see what kind of damage the main battery on this thing can do. :-B I bet it could level a large chunk of your average core world mega-city fairly quick. And these:

are going to be a pain for star fighters and bombers.

Interesting - it is not often that we see capital ships built around one or two big weapons as opposed to many small ones.

This is like when Timothy Zahn got to see Coruscant be the official movie name for the galactic capital, only for fleet junkies. :D
IV, to give it a lineage, which sorta recanonizes I-III. We also had General Dodonna mention the Mandator-class in a previous Rogue One tie-in book, so this fits in nicely.

The Mandator reference has definitely made my day. Just great. I assume Mr jasonfry had something to do with that. Kudos.

As mentioned above, if that wasn't the mega star destroyer I can't wait to see what that will look like. Hopefully it will Eclipse the Executor ;)

I can't believe that the Mandator-class not only has official art, but will be a significant part of a new Star Wars film.

I can't believe that I will fly an X-Wing through the Fondor shipyards.

What a time to be alive.

I'm almost thinking "focusing lens", or at least the site for one to be installed. I mean, if the thing's supposed to be a weapons platform...

Well, guess that's decided then. I'll be there on midnight to see Episode VIII to get even a glimpse of ships like that. I wasn't able to make it for TFA (and now am glad I didn't) but that design alone already looks better than the Resurgent (not that we got many good shots of it). The Mandator name just makes it even better. Wonder if there's a chance nuEU will ever see a Mandator I-III. Even the old EU never got around to it, I think? References to it but no pictures I think. Especially with the narrative that it was a much more even war between the Empire and Rebel Alliance (at least post-Endor).

It's just a bigger Interdictor without the Gravity Wells and big guns on the undercarriage. The front reminds me of Stargate ships.
