Would love to finally get some detail on that ship at some point - Golan Ribbon Tanker perhaps?

What's this "dual-tanker rocketship kitbash" we're talking about?

The thing at the middle-right bottom of the screen. I think it might actually be a kitbash from escape pod models, but that might just be this one particular screencap influencing me.

I'll say it again...they need to send an intern into the basement and start uploading shots of all the background ships to the internet.

I've been debating whether to post about the Mandator IV-class First Order Dreadnought or not, but here we go. It's a 'meh' to me. When I first saw it I laughed at the silly looking canon slung underneath, now I don't mind the design but there's definitely things I would have changed.

    The GOOD:

-The look of the point-defense anti-aircraft cannons. Really cool, a Star Wars Phalanx CIWS system!
-The flat triangle hull, I actually like it as it's familiar but different.

    The BAD:

-Calling them 'point-defense anti-aircraft cannons' when they are clearly of too large a calibre for this to be their main purpose.
-The width of the bridge makes the ship awkward looking for no reason.
-The orbital autocannons. If the main purpose is orbital bombardment, it seems like a lot of trouble to have giant articulating cannons instead of fixed emplacement because you could just maneuver the ship into firing position.
-The lack of other weapons (thus far).

    The COMPLAINTS

-The ship design is said to have been created to meet the filmmakers plot requirements as opposed to good/logical/rational/realistic military warfare principles which is frustrating.
-A ship of this size could have docking bays on both 'sides' of the triangle, that would be cool.
-A general complaint about the lack of armor on Star Wars vessels. There exterior hulls are kit-basked with all kinds of widgets (yes, or greebles).

    The UNKNOWN:

-What do those two turrets beneath either extreme end of the bridge do?
-What is an autocannon - looking forward to finding out.
-Does it have ventral docking bays?

In general I'm finding that NEU ships are more stylistically focused, whereas Legends tried to pay lip-service to realistic space combat. Nothing will compare to the ships described by The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels to me. Perhaps this is just me getting older or resisting change. In the end I'll wait and hope it pays off on-screen.

Does anyone else feel like the Resistance bomber is getting too much advertising?

Not really. I mean it showed up in the trailer, is getting a book of short stories, and that's about it. I mean we don't even have a name yet

I mean in how much it is being shown off, such as in multiple books, magazines, possibly posters, etc. I feel like the way it's being shown off is more deserving of a new type of capital ship.

Well they tend to prefer showing off fighters over capital ships. Like the Profundity was not fully shown till one of the last tv spots and even then it was in the background. We had to figure out how it looked going in while the U-wing was everywhere

And I'll take the bombers with largely new designs over "OT Starfighter with *extremely* minor changes in design."

The bomber seems like a decent idea, as we know fighter sized ordnance poses a threat to warships, so dedicated and large bombers would be a way to bring lots of ordnance onto the table for anti-shipping work, especially if you're low on your own warships.

A B-52/Bear analogue in other words.

I'm assuming that these new Resistance bombers are, like all their tech, surplus New Republic bombers. It's also possible that they are New Republic squadrons that link up with the Resistance post-TFA. Given that the Resistance is ever more underarmed and outgunned than the old Rebel Alliance, squadrons of dedicated bombers (kinda like the old EU's concept of a blastboat) would help them tremendously.

Of course, we still need to see the capital ship that Leia & Ackbar are on...

so...are those bombers going to be able to actually land in a hanger like the X-Wings and A-Wings?? Or are they too big???

I cannot wait till we get a size for those things so we can then fight over how big the hangar of the new capital ship is.

The Lego set for em implies that the bottom turret flips up and they land vertically on the big axe-head's "blade".

Since they do seem to be analogues of heavy bombers, they might be designed to launch from planetary bases rather than ship hangers, just like how you can't put a b-17 on a carrier.

Though, capital ships do carry shuttles which can be pretty big. Heck, a star destroyer can fit small capital ships in its main hanger...

Corvette scale picket ships such as the CR90, Gozanti, GR75, Dornean, and Consular are considered capital ships for the sake of convenience.

Oh that makes sense. I don't normally think of those as being classified that way

In Star Wars terms any dedicated warship too big to be considered a fighter is called a capital ship, even though conventionally that only refers to the larger ships, the difference of scale between frigates, cruisers, battleships, and so on makes the distinction rather irrelevant given its Age-of-Sail basis of classification.

I remember in Shattered Empire, Part I, we got glimpses of a GR-75 Medium Transport inside the Home One or at least a MC80 star cruiser.

Yeah I imagine that the bombers can fit in that type of hangar as well as long as they lie on their front

well they look vaguely descended from the B-wing but massively upscaled, maybe they can rotate 90 degrees to land?
