While talking about the A-Wing costumes, I started thinking about why there are so many different Flight suit colors, and if they really match up to the specific fighters, and thought we could discuss it here.

What is generally accepted is this:

    Orange - X-Wing
    Green - A-Wing
    Grey - Y-Wing
    Red - B-Wing

Now if you look in the Special Editions, I believe you can see Pilots wearing Blue Flightsuits. And in the Briefing scenes, you saw a mixing of helmets and flightsuits. A-Wing green pilots carrying the Y-Wing helmets. Etc
You take into account that in ANH, the Y-Wing pilots wore the exact gear and suits as X-Wing pilots and it all becomes a jumbled mess. You add in the EU, and it gets even more confusing lol.

Now a train of thought that I had was this, in ANH, what you see on Yavin 4 is a Alderanian Rebel supplied Cell. The Orange jumpsuits and traditional Chest boxes were all standard on that planet.

YOu expand on that, saying that the Green A-Wing pilots might have been wearing Corellian flight gear. The Rogue books established in the EU that Corelia used green flightsuits.

Therefor, it wasn't the ships that decided the flightsuit/Helmet, it was what planet provided the gear. And the reason we saw the mix at Endor was that the Alliance became of of an actual alliance then a collection of Cells that it was at Yavin.

    So, what do you think?

I honestly believe that this thread would be more successful in the Classic Trilogy forum. ;)

Ah but its us over here that would actually make the costumes.

I like the idea btw. Having each system provide its own military personnel they would wear whatever they have,

As far as I know that works here on Earth as well. If a Canadian is attached to a US miltary organization, he or she still wears a Canadian uniform.

I'm sure NATO does the same thing when they have members of more than one country assigned to a mission.

So in that light it does make sense that the variety of pilot costumes seen represent different member states of the Alliance and not something specific to what you are flying.

That's true. I just think that some of the SW buffs over there would have answers to the flight suit colors questions. ;)

I've noticed about the different uniforms with the mixed and matched helmets. I still don't get what's up. ?[face_plain]

I think there are plenty of people here at C&P that can cover the flight suit colors question. :)

Users like Skaught, among others, have done a great deal of research on the matter.

for this costume the basic Green flightsuit might due yuou good. but the one costyumer I know who has completed it has a cotton type fabric, looks like a mechanic's coverals in hunter green. I think it has a better look to it myself.

And if your looking to make it more accurate to the X-Wing type suits, there is a pattern going around to convert the mechanics coveralls. I have a copy I can send if you want.

Ooh! *waves hand* I'd like a copy of that, Ed, if you would be so kind.

Please send it to jediloreen@hotmail.com, or, better yet, jediloreen@yahoo.com, that mailbox is currently empty 'cause I just reactivated it.

    Thanks in advance, :)

Keep in mind army/nacy stores may lean towards the army green/olive drab flightsuits, and that wouldn't be the accurate green.

My research has been on what was seen on screen, especially in the cockpit (with human actors, not the models). As to the story behind it all, you either have EU storylines or fan speculation. I believe the mishmash of pilots walking around behind the main actors was put together without much concern to who wears what by the set dressers. I've seen some people argue that they purposefully wanted a variety of pilots/helmets in the background to signify that the Rebellion is made up of people from a variety of worlds/cultures. I say, be real. It's only a movie and I don't think they put that much thought into background details.

nacy? oh, you mean NAVY... you sound like a Air Force buddy of mine. Here's an excellent site for flightsuits at a reasonable price. I haven't bought from them, just looks good and has the selection.
