I just picked up the Vader FX saber, does this happen to anyone else: When I move the blade, say a half inch it does the, what I would say is, double movement. Then, just holding it steady but walking it randomly makes noises. Is there a method to the madness or what?

How do you make the clash noise?

The blade on all the newer FX sabers is pretty sensitive. The sounds are sometimes random. If you're holding it steady and moving the lightsaber is moving with you, so if it makes sounds that's nothing to worry about.

Great thank you. I figured it was VERY sensitive after messing around with tonight but wasn't totally sure. Good to know others have seen it.

Other than that I friggin love the thing. I want to go get an Obi-Wan blade so my wife and I can battle...need to hear that clash sound effect!! :)

The 'clash' sound can be made by bumping the hilt with the butt of your palm, or some people are known to beat at things with the blade... but if one chooses to break it, be sure to do it before the 45-day warranty is up. <- <- questioning short warranty time.

Some of the sounds on a few of the sabers can get a little hyperactive, but sometimes if I turn it off for a second, then back on, it may do better. I believe that batteries can affect sensitivity, in good and bad ways, depending on battery strength.

"The 'clash' sound can be made by bumping the hilt with the butt of your palm"

Yup,,I never hit the blade really,if its not in a duel with another fx.
I always bump the hilt with my hands, you see me doing it in my Luke Rotj Video about 40 sec into it.

The Luke video was actually featured on MRs blog about 2 weeks ago when I made it..

Now it seems that the LED is acting up again. LAstnight it was flickering again. My problem is do I send it back to MR, or were I bought it, knowing that they will never get anymore. Not sure what to do. I think if I had the balls to take the blade off I could resolder the stupid LED. I have electronic experience, but no money to back me. Anyone out there seen the same thing. It works OK, most of the time. Do you think it could be battreries. I have a fresh set of Durecells in now, they test at aprox. 1.6 so I know they are good. Thanks for any suggestions. Also As I was "playing" around with the batteries, it would run with only 4 in not the six. Weired HUH!

I tried bumping the hilt this morning and all it did was make the slashing noise. However, when I tape towards the tip of the blade I get a clash noise from time to time.

I wish it would be a more soild red on the blade, but man is it still badazz :)

So I thought these things weren't made for dueling? MR is basically promoting it on the links: http://masterreplicas.com/customer/starwars/starwars_product_list.php?cid=9?masterreplicas_ecommerce_PSID=eeacd35d31bb75cd9be285c6160fcb12

You made the inside of the unit work to hard. Thats why they have 6 batteries, not 4.

Although, if you send it back, dont mention you did that :p

There is no difference between the Episode V Vader FFX and the Episode III Vader FFX because an FFX version of Vader's Episode III saber doesn't exist. ;)

How is that harmful, seems less voltage would do no damage.. It appears to be better now. I am going to resist the send back because of MR. I sent back a Luke ESB saber and had to wait for three months to get a replacement. I feel a saber in the hand is better than a new one at the shop.

i agree. it says in rather small print on the instructions booklet "not used for dueling". but on their website, they do everything but outright say "fight with the damn things!". i'm pretty sure if you did fight with it, broke it, and then were refused a replacment, you could probably win if you took them to court.

of course, i'm nothing close to a lawyer and could be wrong.

how long ago did you send the luke ESB back to MR? if it was a while ago, i think they have sorted out the problem with shipping. a few months ago, i called about sending a faulty windu back, and i had a replacement a little over a day after i called them. i didn't even have a chance to ship my saber before i got the replacement. it was that display of service that convinced me to buy my other sabers.

As far as using fewer batteries, I've heard that some people have experimented with leaving a battery or combination of certain batteries out and can do things like make the blade light up, but without the sounds. I do not know which, as I've never tried it nor want to.

About the problem with your blade... although the girl I talked to yesterday at MR said I'd have to deal with Borders, I got this from this in an e-mail:
Personally, I took mine to a Borders last night and esentially got mine exchanged. But that was when I had been led to believe that MR was not interested in standing behind their product.

    Maybe that helps you, T721.

OK I contacted MR and the verified retailer I purchased it from. I hope he has one in stock so I can ship the old for the new, saves time. MR could take several months.

So I see from that forum that Durecell Ultra, Duracell Max and Energizer E2 are all good choices. I am gonna do some testing. A fresh new Duracell out of the pack has a peak voltage of 1.6 and after a few uses goes to about 1.53 to about 1.48. Now I tryed some used batteries in the saber and it produced spots, With the new batteries it still produced a flickering spot. I am gonna get some new Duracell MAx and give them a whirl and if they do not work I'm gonna try the energizer E2. Heck by the time I get threw testing batteries, I can by a new saber. I wish MR would do the leg work and tell us what to use. The rep told me duracell but they work substandard. I will keep you posted on this. As for now what types of BAtteries do you guy and gals use.(this is a poll not solicitation of there product).

thanks for the battery tip! Right now I have Energizer in there, vmax or whatever they are. They seem to work pretty good, but the blade, will it every be a 100% solid red or will you always see a bit of the led towards the tip when holding at arms length?

This is pretty much just always going to sit on my TV so there's no big deal or anything.

Turkey721, I use Duracell Ultra Digital in mine right now. But since Energizer E2 lasts nearly twice as long, I'm planning to buy those and give them a try. ;)
SithAboveAll, I agree with you on the Maul FFX. I can't wait to see it either. Ever since May 1999 (TPM premiere), the Maul has been THE saber I've wanted, even before MR existed.
Do you think they may skimp on the blades and make them 30" or 24" long? I would hate that. If they're going to do this, they should do it right and make the blades the same length they always have. Sure, the saber is going to be extremely long and awkward, and there'll be a risk of hitting the blades against stuff, but that should be fine for everyone who plans to be extra-careful with it. I'd much rather see the full nearly 9-foot-long version, rather than a shortened version because MR worries about it being easily damaged. We're the ones who'll be buying it and playing with it. I say give us the full-length saber and let us take our chances with it. ;)

so either Durracell or Energizer. I have Energizer in there right now and the blade is spotty towards tip and they are bran new batteries. I'll try the DU and see what happens.
