I'm a big classic rock fan, but for some reason, I never thought of Foreigner as the producer of many of the worlds great songs. I almost always acknowledge a band for what it accomplishes, but Foreigner was always "that band". So today, I downloaded a bunch of songs (that were some of my favorites but it never registered that they were Foreigner), and realized that they have a big group of famous songs, some for example:

    Cold as Ice
    Juke Box Hero
    Feels Like the First Time
EDITED OUT (My mind must be slipping, wrong band!)
    Can't Fight This Feeling
I Want to Know What Love Is
    Head Games
Urgent (not one of my favorites, though)
    Double Vision
    Hot Blooded

    Oh, so many. :p

So, would you consider them one of the greatest bands of all time? Although if any of you say they're as high as my holy Zeppelin, I'll be forced to beat you. But second place would do fine. :p

Didn't Survivor sing Eye of the Tiger?

Plus, that song "I Want to Know What Love Is" automatically disqualifies you from Rock and/or Roll greatness.

I'm sorry but you're all wrong. Kajagoogoo is the best band ever. With Bell Biv Devoe a close second.

Foreigner is OK. Yet I do consider "I want to know what love is" to be one of my all time favorites in music history.

"I want to know what love is...I want you show me...."

Ah, great song! I completely dig it!! :)

You are all completely wrong. Last year, through mathematical formulae and good old fashioned elbow grease, I determined that the best band ever was none other than Dexie's Midnight Runners.

Great to see another Foreigner fan here. My user name was inspired by the band. While I wouldn't call them the greatest band ever, they certainly did some great stuff.

I LOVE "I want to know what love is". One of my fav songs. I seem to be listening to it alot lately. :(

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LLOOOOVVVEE ISSSS....
I WANT YOU TO SHOOOOWWW MMEEE!!

    *breaks down crying*

    :D LOL

I'm sorry. I'll go away now.

Come on. The Foreigner guy was a chubby dude with a beard and he was scoring with the ladies with "I Wanna Know What Love Is." Give the man his due.

As for Men Without Hats (great band!) what always got me was this line from Safety Dance: "We can act really neat from hats to our feet . . ." --but I thought they didn't have hats.

I don't know, "I Want to Know What Love Is" is pretty bad. Like "Sister Christian" kind of bad.

    Now "Come on Eileen" [face_love]

Come on, Eilleen, too loo rye aye
Come on, Eileen, too loo rye aye
Too rah, too rah tooloo rah

Let's look at this from a rock historian point of view. We can determine Foreigner's greatness by direct comparison to the other bands of their time and genre. Basically, their direct competition at the time of their peak. These bands include:

    Boston
    Kansas
    REO Speedwagon
    Styx
    Survivor
    Supertramp
    ect

Now we can make a comparison and draw on their greatness. And what conclusion have we reached??

I have no idea what I'm doing. :(

Anyways, I think Boston is much better than Foreigner.

Don't forget that Journey is in the same category and time period, and are hailed by many as the ultimate mullet band.

Though Kansas does get credit for "Dust in the Wind", which was quoted in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, thus making it a timeless classic.

(did you see that pun? timeless? Bill & Ted? I'm so sharp sometimes, I hurt myself)

At the same time Foreigner was at its peak, Patrick Swayze had the top hit with She's like the wind. I think Foreigner could've taken a few cues from Mr Swayze, THEN maybe they'd be one of the all-time greatest bands.

    AC/DC
    Motorhead
    Metallica
    Kiss

Those are real bands. The only good thing that Forigner did was dissapear.

    (Sorry but that's my opinion)

I did have a buddy that listened to Jukebox hero like a MILLION times, and the last I knew he tried to blow himself up with a pipe bomb. Forigner makes you do bad things to yourself and should be avioded like the plauge. LISTEN TO ME!!! THEY ARE IN LEAGUE WITH SATAN!!!!
