I'd say the chance is something like 95%. The Cloud CIty duel is one of the most iconic Star Wars scenes of all time. No way it wouldn't get covered at all. The interesting question is how - the original FaCPoV shied away from having stories about the main cast of ANH. You had stories from the point of view of Obi-Wan and Tarkin, but not Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, the droids or Vader. I wonder if we'll get the duel from the perspective of a Bespin security guard watching CCTV, or an Ugnaught who's in the wrong place at the wrong time. Something like that.
Just read the summary, and why does Vader have to notice her? Bah. I love the security guard watching on CCTV. It's a long duel; maybe he/she calls some colleagues over and says, "You gotta watch this!" They of course can hear everything, too. By the end, the security guards have already popped popcorn and are like "No way!!!" when Vader says no, I am your father.
Would a security guard even be calmly chilling at this point in time? Cloud City's ruler, Lando, had ordered an evacuation of Cloud City due to Imperial takeover. Stormtroopers were already taking over the city. I'd imagine there'd be massive confusion among the Cloud City security over who they owe allegiance to, Lando as administrator of Cloud City or, you know, the Number 2 man of the Empire that actually legally rules the majority of the galaxy.
Hey, it's a thrilling duel, best of the saga. Maybe they didn't even notice the chaos going on around them. ;-)
Oh god no, not the whills. I hated that short story in the first FACPV. Let's take Lucas' concept that Star Wars as we know it is really an actual series of events being told to us by unknown mystical race and turn it into a thinly veiled comedic allegory of the Star Wars fanbase.
I agree that the Whills story was really cringey, but in a weird way I also felt a lot of empathy for the Whill writing the opening crawl (the bold text). I felt like he and I are kindred spirits, whereas most fans are the other Whill.
Yay more Whills, cannot get enough of them! Just wait for the ROTJ anthology one day... with even more Whills. And then the PT and ST ones... Regarding Hobbie's death on Hoth... I hope he survives his veering into Veers AT-AT... only to have him and Veers both survive and have to survive alone, left behind by Empire and Rebellion both. Bonding moment in the ice caves! Battling a one armed Wampa together. Who will survive or will they leave Hoth together? Live out the rest of their lives together on Hoth? Also I hope we get another Aphra story in these anthologies!
My hope for this is that the authors have coordinated to make sure everyone is saying something different about how much time passes on Dagobah/flying from Hoth to Bespin. Really dial up the ambiguity!
I forget who i had on my wish list of who I wanted them to do a story about. can't wait to see the list.
I love the ANH book for this I can’t wait for this one, it’s such a great concept for a Star Wars book
Seth Dickinson's involvement in this project is the most exciting Star Wars thing to have happened for me in recent years. His Baru Cormorant novels are thoroughly exceptional -- everyone please buy them -- and he's exactly the kind of author this franchise needs front-and-centre in the years to come.
I am looking forward to the Ultimatum short, the Rae Sloane short, the Sidious short, the etc etc etc. A lot, essentially.
