You gotta admit, those old NES games gave you odd hero names. Zelda's Link. Kid Icarus's Pit. And lots more . . .

    What's the deal? :p

I was always partial to Diddy Kong.

Well, correction, any name plus Kong, since DKC games were the stuff back in the day.

Speaking of which... Donkey Kong? I don't care what he sounds like on the N64, the guy's a Sithspawned MONKEY, not a Kriffing DONKEY! (Man, I hate that guy... stupid Toad Turnpike... *grumble*) ;)

    Completely forgot about that one!

What was the second game called? Banjo Tooie or something like that?

    Can't forget about Conkers either.

I know. The logic behind his name is awful. Wario worked as W is an upside down M.
Luigi should have neem 7uigi or Ruigi.

Or they should have done the right thing and scapped the character altogether.

It kinda makes sense if you know Japanese. Walui/warui (r and l are somewhat equivalent in Japanese) is a word meaning "bad" or "evil". It seems to be the base for the front of both Wario's and Waluigi's names, smushed together with the final letters of Mario and Luigi (respectively.)

Kirby was pretty funny, not his name though, just his apperance. His enemy had a good name though, King De De De (I think)

Love Fox as a character but whoever came up with him had loads of creativity...Fox...How original...
Has anyone here ever played Fire Emblem? Come on the main character...Marth? Who creates these names and gets paid for it?

There was a reason for that, but I can't remember.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that most Nintendo characters have strange names because the mean something. How about you all actually do some looking-up instead of making fun of it?

Honestly I'm a true gamer and I love all the characters despite their names... The Zelda series is my favorite! Specifically the Ocarina Of Time which I've beaten numerous times... However it's just for fun in my eyes, but I can't speak for anyone else!:)

It's called Donkey Kong because Myamoto looked up stubborn in an American thesarius and found "Donkey" and found out about King Kong, so he named him Donkey Kong or "stubborn monkey."
