what a surprise it was delayed.
A month out from "the release date" and they were still tinkering with it so it was inevitable.

I knew it wouldn't take too long for them to make a strip about that. :p

Trust me, you will all love it once it does go live. At E3 last year, it was amazing. A year on, I can only begin to imagine what Raph and co have done with it. Can't wait for E3 this year!

    Ah, thanks.

The devs posted this a day or two ago.

    Hey all -
I know some of you have been waiting for the contents of the premium package for Star Wars Galaxies to be announced, so here they are. Let us know what you think.

The first thing you need to know is that this Special Edition version of Star Wars Galaxies is going to be limited in quantity. We're only making about 75,000 of them, and then that's it. And nothing in the box will be available through any other channels, ever.

I also want to let you know that we fought pretty hard for this Special Edition because we wanted to commemorate the launch of the game with something cool. More importantly, we wanted to give the fans something related to the game. In many ways, the Special Edition is kind of our present to you (though, we're still charging for it...).

The Special Edition includes the full version of the game along with the following collection of exclusive items:

*Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Concept Art Book. This includes nearly every piece of concept art ever done for the game, including a great deal of never-before-seen stuff (even a few pieces that were "rejected" for continuity reasons), preliminary sketches for the CGW cover, an intro by our Lead Artist Jake Rodgers, some cool continuity/game info, final model shots and screenshots, and comparisons to film stills. This book has been a labor of love for some of us, and I think it's going to be an excellent look at one aspect of the game's development.

*Collectible pewter figurine featuring a Zabrak female with a blaster rifle. This is one of the most detailed SW figures I've ever seen. It's based on an in-game character and in-game wearables.

*Sew-on patch featuring the logo for Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. We hope to do patches for each installment of the game.

*Lapel pin featuring both Imperial and Rebel insignias as well as Star Wars Galaxies logo.

*Spiral-bound manual, with a cover autographed by all the Leads on the Galaxies team, and a special surprise.

It all comes packaged in a pretty solid black box with the Star Wars Galaxies logo embossed on the cover and sides (I just saw the box today and it could hold all your old Star Wars RPG sourcebooks...).

We're still working on the price, but I wanted to let you know the contents, since we have those nailed down.

    Haden Blackman
    LucasArts Producer

Sounds neat. But I'm too cheap to pay extra for anything like that. ;)

Well it looks like GameSpot changed the release date from December 12, 2003 to simply 2003. Way to vague guys...

    Keep updated.

    Star Wars Galaxies delayed

LucasArts reveals that the much-anticipated online RPG set in the Star Wars universe will spend more time in beta testing and will not ship in April.
LucasArts has announced that Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided is entering the final phase of development, but will not ship on April 15 as planned. In addition, the third phase of the beta test, which will be more representative of the final game and will be opened to a select group of public testers, has been postponed. The new release date will be announced following the start of the third beta phase.

In a statement, LucasArts said, "We've received a good deal of constructive feedback and many positive suggestions that, if executed, will genuinely enhance game play for the hundreds of thousands of players who comprise the community." The statement also explained that the delay will allow the game's designers at Sony Online to get additional feedback from the testers and fan base.

Star Wars Galaxies is said to be in the final few months leading up to its launch. We'll have more details on the game soon. For more information, check out our previous coverage.

If they would include the space expansion pack, I would surely wait until December.

I would be very surprised if that occurs.

I don't think they'll include it. Apparently then don't even have the basic part of it done, so the probability that they have a good amount of code done for the space expansion that is enough for them to finish it and have it working decently until December.

Also, I'm not buying the 'oh! we listen to what you say! we're delaying this because we care.' bit. They've just got too many bugs than the ones then were expecting for that stage. The only way I'd accept that delay and say it was purely out of wanting to include new stuff would be if the game included those basic things they said it wouldn't, such as owning our own vehicles, being able to be Dark Jedi, etc. It's simply ridiculous they said they wouldn't include them on the game, but then go and delay it saying they're doing it to add stuff the public says they want.

Well, I'm fairly certain that almost all of the users pretty much hated it when they heard the no-self vehicles, no-dark jedi, do-whatever-else the developers stated. So, for me, if those basic ones are not there with this delay, the developers sure seem to have some serious priority issues. [face_plain]

The point is: they're using it as an excuse for a delay that doesn't seem to be just for 'tiding up bugs' and ading new features.

What I'm saying is: delays are justifiable, as long as when the products come out they're good and with features that justify that delay (hei, I'm a BioWare RPG fan, I can be patient :p ). Just not sure it's the case with this from what I heard the SWG beta testers had been saying about it.

I think with the extensive development time of this game, some 3-4 years, if Galaxies bombs then it may seriously hurt the reputation of Lucasarts, and even Sony to an extent when it comes developing games.

If it bombs, blame the marketing division(s), not the development team.

What's the definition of "bomb" in this case though?
