I was about to come in here and post this topic, but you beat me to it!

Anyway, I was a little mad at first, when I thought it was going to replace the GBA I bought not a month ago, and no more games would be made to work with it.

But I've calmed down quite a bit when I read more, and found it was more like a 'premium' version of the GBA, for the older user.

Which is perfectly fine with me.

In fact, I'll probly buy the GBA SP at some point, at least when I have a few trade-ins.

I'm interested to hear other people's opinions, though.

Ohh, and here is a link to GameSpot's review of it:

naner naner boo boo eagle.... 8-} As soon as i heard about this thing, i knew that there wasnt a thread about it yet, and so i jumped into the boards just to beat everyone to it!! I never get to be a starter of a thread that people might actually get into...
Oh well. I havent read all the news yet, but are the graphics the exact same? I know that the same games can be used on either the gba or gba sp... so i dont know if ill get this... I just got an xbox, so i wont have enough money between buying those games and getting another useless thing that plays the same games, has the same graphics, and... well i guess those two excuses are all, but theyre valid.

It's basically for the on-the-go adult.

And for those who were complaining about the lack of screen-lighting on the GBA.

With the cover and the small size, it can be easily slipt into a pocket, and plus, it looks more professional than the current GBA.

It will play the same games, has the same graphics (although is smaller in size), and is basically just an alternative, or 'premium' GBA.

It should be noted that when this is released, the normal GBA's price will become US$69, and the new GBAsp will be US$99, making there be a low-cost GBA 'lite,' and a higher cost GBAsp.

Well if you dont mind me sayin, that price is expensive. What someone needs to make is a handheld console, that DOESNT NEED A FREKIN LIGHT!!! They had the right idea with the GameGear a while back...

It's almost the same price that the GBA debuted at, IIRC.

    >>What someone needs to make is a handheld console, that DOESNT NEED A FREKIN LIGHT!!! They had the right idea with the GameGear a while back...<<

The Gamegear's back-lit screen wasted battery power relatively quickly- I think the best case secenario for a GG was like 6 hours...this GBA-SP has almost twice that with the light on.

Wow this GBA SP is really small. It's like the size of the old Game Boy games.

Yeah, I'm with DarthBobbalot. Nintendo and its "worm light" is rediculous. GameGear, in my oppinion, is still even with where Nintendo is at today. Anyone remember linx? It is like 10+ years old and was backlit. Nintendo........please!

Now... all they need to make is a self recharging battery... Maybe we can install a motor into the GB and make it gather electricity by revolving or something.... It would be bigger, but it would solve the battery thing...

i think the current game boy advance with an 'afterburner' light installed is good enough! and i think this new SP is too bunched together. the flip lid thingy is pretty cool though.

I may get one of these. I like the look of the design and I'm extremely happy about the light, but I'm going to reserve final judgement until I can hold one in my hands and play with it. My hands cramp up if I play the current GBA for more than a few minutes and the GBA SP looks even smaller. Perhaps I should just give up the hand held gaming and just get one of those Gameboy Advance cartridge peripherals for the Game Cube.

it looks sweet :) kinda like those old Nintendo flip up games from the early 80s.

Anyone remember linx? It is like 10+ years old and was backlit

The Atari link was an excellent console, however it suffered from the Atari rule of in house developement games only, and also that it needed 6 AA batteries to run, and lasted for about a hour :(

Atari have had some of the best technology, and very often ahead of its time (Take the Jaguar for example), but they always suffer because they don't allow outhouse game development.

anyways, the future of hand held gaming is below

The new look is cool, and the light is nice, but I'm fine with the GBA I have. I won't be spending 100 bucks for a new one. Maybe if mine dies or I lose it or have some other need to buy another one.

And yeah malkie, cell phone technology and video games are going to make a great couple. They look so cute together too. Awww. Seriously though, online multiplayer GBA quality games based on cell phone tech is gonna be the next big thing real soon.

Woah! Thats really neat-O. But it still doesnt have an included light inside that will allow you to see the screen in the dark. If only they did that, with the solar charger, then i dont think id ever get another handheld game console. That is until they stopped producing games with that console. Then id be forced to get another one.

Heres a question, not only specified to the hand held consoles, but for all video games:
Do you think theyll continue to 'keep getting better'? I mean, the ultimate goal is to make something look life like and real. So do you think that in the year 2020 or something, when they come out with the perfect console that will play the perfect graphics and all that, will they stop making new consoles, and just stick with that one? My thought is that they wouldnt, because theyd get the perfect look, but theyd have to conform the disc, or whatever theyre using as a game cartrige, to the new thing thats around. e.g. a cd as opposed to a record, or something like that. What do you all think?

the SP does have a light, its not a back light though its a front light, the main thing i do not like about this new gba is that it does not have a headphone jack. most of the games have very good stereo sound wich you cant hear from a puny little speaker on the system.

it could be sooner than we think !

Sega are making the games for that nokia phone that I posted a picture of. Word is that you'll be able to play multiplayer games against people within a 10 feet radius using infrared, or play online against anyone you like.

With more people getting phones, and more and more free minutes, it will become effectively free to play online GBAesque games against people around the world.

I'm hoping the games are GBA quality - we'll get games reviews soon :)

The SP is cool, but way too expensive for me. I'm still trying to get the original GBA.

    I like the shape of the first GBA anyway. 8-}
