I know a lot of developers use 3d studio max as it has built in features for games. I assume that you model things the same as usual but just try and keep the polygon count down. With game modelling it's all about the textures.

    hey there :)
i'm studying computer animation at TAFE
and yes we do use 3D studio max.
the problem is, it can be expensive as you'd have to buy the full version, to release anything.
3DS is pretty easy to model with, just find reference images of the weapons you want in the game (or draw them from all sides) then pop the images in and model from a box or cylider - depending on weapon type :)
anyway, i'm only studying it so i'm no professional, but i can give you some ideas if you're using 3DSMax.
i don't know how to use any other programs. :)
