After every other glaring plot hole, I am fully prepared to believe the writers intended something this idiotic.

Or there is a large creature moving around taking up space and breathing fire on everything making passage to the destination more difficult regardless of how well a person can hide.

So how did Jon spot her and figure out what she was doing?

In fairness to VLM and the somewhat stretching it theory, Jon is looking that direction. The White Walkers were shown as all very clearly facing one direction, so they probably wouldn't have seen a person coming from the roof and jumping over them into the trees from behind them.

Jon does mention in Episode 1 to Arya "how did you sneak up on me?" while he's standing in the same spot in the godswood...

    Anyways, enjoy!

Yeah sorry, that's not the same thing at all.

Are you seriously trying to compare a lone child who has never seen battle relaxing at home with family members to a half dozen who have been fighting and killing for millennia in the middle of an assault on an enemy fortification that is still crawling with defenders? Really?

    Ghost. Sigh.

Nice to know that Peter Dinklage agrees with me on the stupidity of the danger in the crypt

    https://www.businessinsider.de/game...terfell-unanswered-questions-2019-4?r=US&IR=T

Why didn't anyone see the crypt issue coming?
One of the more baffling scenes on "The Long Night" happened when the Night King resurrected the dead Starks from their burial sites in the crypts. How did no one in Winterfell think that would be an issue? Why wasn't anyone armed?

At the very least they should have prepared people better for the chance they'd need to fight. Even Peter Dinklage thought this was an major misstep.

"We're in a crypt. Nobody thought of that," Dinklage said in an HBO behind-the-scenes video. "[The Night King is] bringing all the dead people back to life. And they've put the women and children in a crypt with all the dead people so ... blah. Tyrion is smart but I guess not that smart."

    @Jabba-wocky
As for Arya's leap through the Godswood, maybe Ned had put up a trampoline years ago and we just never noticed before?

the Jon sacrificing himself for Arya BS rumour was just created by some Jon fangirls probably after seeing their beautiful hero do sweet fa in the battle.

In all honesty no one did anything in this battle. Not Jon, not the Night King, not Bran, not Daenerys. The struggle for humanity just boiled down to finding one person who was good enough at karate to fight Darth Maul. That's the whole thing.

Anyway I'll be back for the reboot 20 years later when he reappears with robot legs.

Not to mention that the show gave us seven seasons of Arya learning how to be stealthy...

I used to think that the “Rey didn’t have enough training” critiques of the ST were a little harsh until I heard the GoT fans complaining about Arya’s undetected run through the Godswood.

    Then I realized...oh, it’s mostly just sexism.

Arya is in no way a Marysue. She went through years of training as a fighter and stealth tactics. She deserved her big moment.

For sure. Basically everything Arya has gone through for eight years was leading up to preparing her for this moment.

This is the stupidest argument imaginable. No one is doubting that Arya can “be stealthy.” Our more relevant issues are:

    A) is this a situation in which anyone could plausibly have been stealthy, keeping in mind that Arya is a human who sneaks around, not a superhero with invisibility?

    B) much more importantly was it a sensible narrative choice to defeat the Night King in this way?

Cersei has sex to get what she wants. Tyrion bribes and persuades people. All of these character traits are as established as Arya’s stealth. But it would be dumb to end the story with the Night King facing death by snoo-snoo from Cersei or having Tyrion bribe him to leave. They are fundamentally dumb solutions that aren’t really consistent with the threat as established, and neither advance the story thematically nor do anything interesting for character development.

Arya it’s the same. A karate ninja murderer murdered somebody. Great.

Really? You thought the best way to conclude an environmental disaster allegory is to have someone stab it to death in a karate fight?

What would have been a better way to take down the Night King, in your opinion? A knock-down-drag-out fight with Jon? Jon has already faced him personally in battle before and basically lost and had to retreat. In fact, the idea of someone stealthy taking him down is nice because it's not what he expected.

And as for the Night King even being there to expose himself, as I've pointed out before, we have seen over and over that he likes to go personally be in the midst of these battles. He's an arrogant sod. And no one complained about him exposing himself to harm in any of these other battles.

He exposed himself in order to personally have the satisfaction of finally killing the Three-Eyed Raven. His lieutenants were around to watch, all facing one direction, not facing out to guard him. To me, this made perfect sense and showed hubris on their part. Which again, we have seen in every battle where they join in, because they really don't have to. They just want to. Their feud with humanity is personal.

So I think having something they never expected and have probably never faced, a stealthy assassin, take them down is actually fitting. Jon has tried repeatedly to fight on their terms and continually lost. Because you can't beat them in outright battle, and to have done so successfully would have been pretty silly. This way, it's something they aren't prepared for and haven't faced.

I thought it was a smart twist.

Of course they aren't. Talking someone out of something or having sex have never been solutions to military problems. Stealth attacking someone to kill them is.

Wocky is just being a Wocky.
