Well I would assume this seeing as how these movies all hover around average to barely above average.

The only one that approaches the books is the third movie, and only in the first half.

    From Comingsoon.net:

Oldman Confirmed for Harry Potter 5
    Source: GaryOldman.info, HPANA March 22, 2006

Gary Oldman's manager has confirmed to both GaryOldman.info and HPANA that the actor will return as Sirius Black in Warner Bros. Pictures' Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Oldman, who just celebrated his 48th birthday on Thursday, played the role in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and voiced the character in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

"Gary Oldman is now set to play Sirius Black in the Order of the Phoenix. A deal was concluded this morning," his long-time manager, Doug Urbanski, said.

"I'm so relieved and happy," he added. "I can't put my mind in the place of the producers, but I would've thought that when they read the book, a call to us would've been very high on their list. Obviously, the character of Sirius Black is key."

Urbanski said he was baffled by the months-long silence from Warner Bros. There were other jobs offered to Oldman, and he was very close to taking one. "Since they had no option for Gary on this film, he was a free agent. Last week, we told them that Gary had another movie, and it was just a question of doing a deal," he said.

"It's a wonderful role," Urbanski continued. "Gary read the script last night, and he read part of it to me on the phone this morning. The end of the story is: Gary's in it. It's a terrific script, and he's so happy to be back."

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released in theaters in 2007.

Talk about one of the biggest near-casting oversights in the history of Hollywood

    As long as he's in Batman 2 & 3, that's all I care about.

    Best. Jim Gordon. Ever.

I'm glad they got that all sorted out. I like Oldman as Sirius Black and wouldn't want to see anyone else as Black it was completely unavoidable.

Goodness me. It took them long enough.

I'm putting this one down to beaurocratic stuff-up.

Warner Bros is the cheapest of the main studios and Oldman is a pricy actor. It`s obvious that they were trying to find a way to work around him

Ya know, I'm not worried if Oldman wasn't in OotP. I mean really, what was so distinctive about his Sirius? He barely had screentime in both PoA and GoF to establish any real chemistry with Harry (in the case of GoF, why the heck did they even bother to have Oldman's voice, they could have used any voice with none the wiser!), and since Sirius is just some guy with lots of facial hair, a change of actors wouldn't make all that different.

Hell, I'd be happy if they could get a cheaper actor and use the money saved for better FX (or pay more for Alan Rickman so he can get even more screentime, har har!).

Bah, it was lousy casting in the first place, part of WB's "Let's cram it with over-glorified cameos!" policy. Oh well, the fanboys/girls can rest easy now I suppose, crisis averted, praise Merlin!

    I-)

Actually it has more to do with JK's stipulation the whole cast must be British, which admittedly lends an air of authenticity to the the films, but precludes actors from other countries from being cast, such as Viggo Mortensen and Hugo Weaving, who I think make an excellent Sirius and Voldemort, respectively.

Still WB's fault for listening to JK. They're just so afraid from any bad publicity if JK suddenly said bad things about the movies. Bah!

Not too sure about Mortensen (don't get me wrong, I love Mortensen, but after seeing the pathetic screentimes for Sirius so far, this role should have gone to a complete unknown), but Weaving would be awesome. However, I'm Ok with Fiennes after his performance in GoF, though in my own imagination Voldy is the guy who played Skeletor in 'Masters of the Universe'. Hell, my Voldemort probably looks exactly like Skeletor in that movie, har har!
