Read Labyrinth of Evil. His entire history is described in there....

I'm summarize it as best I can though. He was a General for some planet called Kaleesh, that was constantly having civil wars. After he won the battle there, he started to fight on other planets and he was basically unbeatable.

Palpatine saw his potential as a Seperatist leader so he rigged Grievous shuttle to crash land. Grievous was horribly mutilated but Dooku and Palpatine saved his life (Vader style) and thus he owed Dooku his allegiance for saving his life.

In RotS while he's fighting Obi Wan the camera zooms in to his face, and you can clearly see that he has reptilian skin around his eyes. Just thought I'd mention that since it seems you missed it the first time around.

I vote he was Maul rebuilt. I mean the eyes, the rebuiltness, it reeks of Sith Rebuilt, as the prototype Darth Vader...

Grievous wasn't human he was Kaleesh. ROTS Visual Dictionary describes him as an "Alien Warlord" and his eyes are described as "sallow reptilian eyes" therefore Grievous can't be human.

 

I vote he was Maul rebuilt. I mean the eyes, the rebuiltness, it reeks of Sith Rebuilt, as the prototype Darth Vader...

There was some rumor along those lines before Ep II came out. What fun,,,


Oh ya, don't his eyes have vertical pupils too? Not very human there.

 

Well Darth maul was rebuilt in a way in Visionaries.

He attacks Owen and Luke on Tatooine when luke is a small boy. But Obi Wan keeping a watchful eye on Luke, springs out from the desert and battles Maul once again taking Maul's life.

That was one cool comic.

 

Gen Grievious was a something or other (not a human)living in some planet i forget. Dooku and Sideous saw his potential as a Sepratist strategist, so they tried to lure him to the dark side. Gen Grievious, however, didn't agree. Dooku and Sideous then arrange a false Jedi attack on his ship, and Dooku and Sideous save him. Angry at the Jedi for their nerve to kill him, he agrees to serve Dooku and Sideous to get revenge on the Jedi for the attack they never did. Ends up, Gen Grievious just ends up burning on fire somewhere on Kashyyyk.
