Dubya_Scott now brings you his next RPG: Ghostbusters!

(I know you?re humming the song already?)

The hype from the upcoming Ghostbusters video game has generated these ideas for a brand new non-Star Wars role-playing game.

?I thought it was gonna be He-Man.?

Yes, friends. The famed Ghostbusters are back. This game takes place in the present day, which means the four original Ghostbusters are prepping new youngsters to take over the business as they near retirement. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore will be leading a new team of Ghostbusters to help prevent a rise in the paranormal across the country. You, the player, will be part of the team of Ghostbusters protecting the citizens from evil.

?A Proton Pack is not a toy.?

The ghost-capture equipment has had some slight upgrades over the past 25 years. You will still be wearing a large Proton Pack on your back, but it?s been modified so that it still performs the same functions, but is a lot lighter and easier to carry around. The gun attached to the Proton Pack is lighter also. The Pack generates the energy used to capture the ghost. And the gun shoots the stream of energy at the ghost to ?lasso? the creature.

The Trap still pretty much works the same way. Except now, there is no foot-pedal attached. The trap is activated by a remote stick. All you have to do is use your thumb to push the button on the top of the stick. When the trap opens, a force-field is emitted that pulls a nearby ghost into the Trap.

And, a little something new has been developed. Egon has created a device called a Stun Gun. It is a pistol-like gun that shoots short bursts of energy. That energy is not enough to capture a ghost, but it is enough to stun it momentarily. Because it is not hooked up to a Proton Pack, it has to recharge itself after a few shots.

?Don?t cross the streams.?

THE most important rule of Ghostbusting? Don?t EVER cross the streams of energy being emitted from the Proton Pack guns, or the Stun Gun. The mixture of all the energy could cause a total protonic reversal. Which, in plain English, means that every molecule could explode and life as we know it would cease to exist.

Also, the newest upgrade will help prevent the crossing of the streams. All the guns were reworked to have better control over the energy beam. So it?s not quite as ?wild? as it used to be.

?When the light is green, the trap is clean.?

Since a Trap can only be used once, it has to be emptied out in order for you to use it again. So, back at the Firehouse, there is a huge mechanism called the Containment Unit. You slip the full Trap through the hatch in the Unit, push a button, let the Unit do it?s thing, and when you see a green light turn on, the Trap has been emptied and the ghost is now imprisoned in the Containment Unit.

?He slimed me.?

There is also a device called the P.K.E. Meter (Psycho-Kinetic Energy Meter). It projects readings of paranormal activity as it draws near. And the upgrade to this device is that it also is able to read whether the ghost is a tangible creature (like Gozer and Vigo) or an intangible creature (like Slimer, where he can float right through you possibly ?sliming? you).

You will be creating your new Ghostbusters recruit for the team. I will allow players to be the main film characters (Peter, Ray, Egon, Winston) if they wish, but, since they ARE the main characters, they can?t fall behind in their posting.

Appearance: 6'2" in height, Karl is average in size, not too fat but not too thin either. light brown hair with fair brown eyes to match, Karl can pretty much fall into the line of the "Everyman".

Short Bio: Karl was born in 1981 in Munich, of what was then, West Germany. At the age of 21, Karl enrolled at the 'Ludwig Maximilian' University of Munich where he studied science and began to gain a intrest in the occult, and started to take up research in parapsychology. Karl quickly topped his classes and the years of university soon passed by leaving him with a Ph.D and a expect in the fields of science and the paranormal.

Aside from that, he can also speak a number of other languages including; French, Russian, Spanish, Italian and Japanese.

 

Best of luck with the RP, Dubya. I was actually considering retrying Ghostbusters: Chicago earlier this morning but you beat me to the punch!

Appearance: 5'9, 178 lbs, full beard and long blonde hair. Very attractive.
Short Bio: Smirnov was born in Russia and mostly raised there. His dad was a military man and fought in World War 2 and strongly disagreed with Smirnov moving to America. His reason behind this was mainly to date different girls and to become a movie star. Unfortunately, his dream is still a work in progress and he picks up jobs that are satisfied with his scientific background from Russia. He was a chemistry student and now his only consistent job is an assistant to a College chemistry professor.

 

Hmm... Not much interest I see.

 

Well, that's kinda disappointing. I'll leave it open a little while longer. But if no one else joins, I may just cancel the whole thing. It'd be kinda tough to play an entire game with 2 players and a GM.

 

I'd be interested in playing. I'll send in a CS later today.

Short Bio: Stan hails from the Midwestern U.S.A., his long hair a symbol of how he wanted to be different. After finishing high school, he began a long search for a job. However, he did not find something until he saw a Ghostbusters ad on a national TV feed, deciding on the spot that catching ghosts would be an ideal career opportunity. Now, he has travelled to New York to become a Ghostbuster and aid in the fight against the supernatural.

Short Bio:

Jamie worked as roadie for Punk Rock and metal bands like Pennywise and Spinal Tap, after gradating High school at the bottom 10 percent of his class, and his garage band Sons of Dogs parted ways. Jamie was regarded as the band?s favorite Roadie until a freak pyrotechnic occurred on stage, killing the drummer of Spinal Tap. Despite being cleared of any wrong doing, he was fired and unable to find work with any noteworthy band that could afford his services.

Jamie attempted to attend a semester in Community College, but quickly became distracted and went off task. After failing and wasting all his life savings on an ill advised stock purchase, to a company called Burger Queen, Jamie lowered his standards and got a job at McDonalds. Still dreaming to do something exciting in his life, he has now signed up on the Ghost Busters team.

A siren wailed as the old-style ambulance skidded to a halt in front of an apartment building. The New York license plate reads: "ECTO 1". The emblem on the doors of the old vehicle was recognized by the pedestrians walking by.

Eight people, all crammed into that vehicle, climbed out and began putting on their equipment. One of the eight, Peter Venkman, stretched his back as he climbed out. "Whooo," he exclaimed with a grumble. "Either this car is getting smaller, or Ray's getting bigger."

"Hey!" Ray spun around to look at Peter as he slipped the proton pack on his back. "I know I may be a little chubby, but I --"

"Give it a rest," Winston interrupted. "After 25 years, don't you know by now that he's only playing around?" Winston shook his head.

Egon turned to the group of new recruits. "Alright, you four. This is the real thing now. You've had plenty of practice in the virtual reality simulator back at the station, so this should be no problem." He pointed a finger at the double-doors of the apartment building behind him and continued. "There are two ghosts in this building. They have NOT harmed anyone, only scared them. There's nothing to worry about."

"Yeah. As a matter of fact, [i]they[/i] will be afraid of [i]you[/i] when they notice you've got a positron collider on your back," Peter added.

The four original Ghostbusters stood looking at the four rookies. Egon spoke again. "We've taught you how to use the equipment. You've practiced everything. Are there any further questions before we head inside?"

Apartment Building

Smirnov frowned as their "trainers" started to bicker over the fat one's weight. It acutally caused Smirnov to look at himself, but then his frown only grew thicker. It wasn't that he was out of shape, because he wasn't. But the clothes he was wearing would make his grandmother turn over in her deathbed, as the American expression went.

"No, I'ms ready to do this...baby."

He looked at the others before realizing that his "hip" language was not being picked up by the others. Americans, they didn't know how to laugh. Smirnov ran ahead towards the door and kicked the glass in with his large foot. He turned and smiled at the others. Surely they could appreciate his strength.

The four of them watched as the Russian spoke, and then ran up to the door and kicked in the glass.

"Whoa, whoa! Easy there, big guy." Peter walked up to Smirnov. "Our clients frown on unnecessary property damage." He reached over and pulled the door open, the chunks of glass crunching against the pavement as the door slid over them. Peter showed him the door wasn't locked. He smiled at Smirnov. "After you."

Peter peeked into the rather large lobby area. There were a people standing there looking at them. One was the doorman, the other was the building owner.

The other three Ghostbuster veterans walked up to the smashed door with the other recruits in tow.

The building owner rushed over as the Ghostbusters walked in. "What is the meaning of this?! Why did you break the glass? There was no--"

"Calm down, calm down," Peter Venkman said as he reached out to stop the man. "We're here to catch ghosts. You know where we can find any?"

The building owner huffed and pointed to the elevators behind him. "Fifth floor," he grumbled.

"Alright. Thanks, pal," Venkman said as he headed for the elevators.

As Egon walked past the building owner, he pointed to the broken glass and added, "We'll pay for that."

Venkman pushed the "UP" button and the doors opened on both elevators. Turning to the recruits, he said, "Pick an elevator. We'll meet you on the fifth floor."

IC: Jamie Oakmen

?AHHHHH man, I have bad feeling about this.? Jamie almost moaned ?Couldn?t we like?.go to the stairs or something, something about ghosts and stairs don?t mix well with me.

As Jamie eyes paced across the room, he shrugged, sighed, and walked into the elevator. He held his containment unit?s nozzle in front of him the entire way, almost like a makeshift shield, panting heavily as he did so. His frown then turned to a cocky smile, bearing all his white teeth.

?No PRO-AHHHH? He began to say in an arrogant tone, before his foot step caused a loud ominous creak, with resulted in his scream of terror

IC: Stan Farmer

Stan wasn't sure how he'd do in his first mission as a Ghostbuster. On TV, they had made it look so easy, but now that he was actually going to do it himself, he wasn't sure how he'd do. If he screwed up, it would be in front of the original Ghostbusters, and then he would be a failure; he couldn't have that. As he stood in the elevator up to the fifth floor, he gripped his suit tightly. This was it, and he knew that he would have to make a good impression.

Winston jumped back as Oakmen yelped. "Whoa! Easy, man," Winston said, looking at the recruit. "You sure you're ready for ghostbusting?"

There was a ding and the doors slid open. The other elevator door opened as well. As the four original Ghostbusters stepped out into the hallway, Egon pulled out the PKE meter.

"Stay close," Egon said as the PKE meter crakled. There were no readings on the meter.

"Come out come out where ever you are..." Peter sang softly as he crept behind Egon.

Ray glanced back at the new recruits. "Anything could jump out at any minute. You guys still ready to go through with this?"
