I went and saw this movie last night. Very good movie. For those who have not heard of this film, it was created by Warner Bros Independant and was directed by George Clooney. Hopefully this will not tuen you off to the film. :p

This movie is about Broadcast journalist Edward Murrow and his television battle with Senator Joseph McCarthy durring a time when the mere mention of dislike/distrust of the Junior Senator from Wisconsin would generate the opinion and fear that you, in fact, were a Communist.

I won't give away the plot, but I thought it's theme ran a close parallel to the events happening in our time with terrorists and the war on terror. Make your own conclusions after you've seen it.

This movie stars the (unknown to me) David Strathairn as Edward R Murrow. He did an excellent job and sounded/acted very similar to the real Murrow. Very good casting job. The movie also stars Robert Downey Jr., Patricia Clarkson, Jeff Daniels, George Clooney, and Frank Langella who plays William Paley, the conflicted head of CBS. Aside from Strathairn's role, I liked Langella's performace just as much.

I recommend this movie to all. Enlighten yourselves with the misgivings and fears of the past in hopes that we can avoid them in the future.

    Please discuss.

Went to see it last night as well. Very well done, a bit preachy, but it's almost expected given the subject material. I do agree with what Murrow said in the film. News needs to be kept as news where it presents both sides of the issue in a, to coin a phrase, fair and balanced manner. When it gets too one sided on either end of the issue, and we cushion it to soften the blow (or not even report about it) it becomes a propaganda tool and is no longer real news.

Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck is a fine piece of "socially aware" filmmaking. The performances are uniformly excellent. Do not wait to see this film on DVD...especially if you are a SAG/A.M.P.A.S. cardholder.

Oh, and I agree with you about that Langella person - he was extraordinary.

Didn't see it on IMDB, but it's possible I guess.

He was in Dracula in 1979...

Yes. Now kindly stop posting those pictures of me in that other thread - I am not Darth Sidious. As I have indicated in my profile, I am very proud of my work in Masters of the Universe, despite the fact that the film itself is pretty awful.

Good Night, and Good Luck is much better, though, and deserves Academy consideration (especially in the Best Supporting Actor category).

And yes, I did play the title role in John Badham's 1979 Dracula. It's nice to see that the work is appreciated.

Although I detest George Clooney and all he stands for, I really want to see this. David Strathairn is a great actor who I've never seen in a lead role, so I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

Clooney is the director and has a supporting role. He's good, but there a better performances IMHO.

ditto. Movies like this will be just as good on the small screen as it is on the big screen, IMO. Not that I'm saying it's a bad movie or anything (I don't know because I haven't seen it yet), but I personally don't go to such films in the threater. I like the big budget adventure films for the theater with awesome sound and visual effects.

I saw it last weekend after waiting months for it - not only for its release, but for it to leave limited release and come out nationwide. It was a great film with great performances (not to mention a great soundtrack - Dianne Reeves .)

    And like that...he's gone.
