ST Grand Admiral Ackbar

Heres a leaked first look by TMZ of Grand Admiral Ackbar!

 

I hope so, I don't know about his position or job (that all depends on the political landscape - there maybe no central government), but it would be nice for him to appear -

He isn't so obscure

 

I think something to keep in mind is that while a ton of stuff will be going on across the galaxy at the time of this film, stuff that would logically involve characters from the time of the OT, we don't necessarily need to see it unless it directly ties in to the story of the central characters. We saw a lot of military leaders during the OT, but that was because our heroes had joined up with the Rebellion and their story ran parallel to that background story. However, if you keep score, we ultimately spent more time with the Imperial leadership than we did with the Rebel leadership, because Darth Vader was a central character who was usually surrounded by Nazis; whereas the heroes often had their own separate stuff going on outside of the Rebellion. We spend very little time with the Rebel leadership in ANH (just a few minutes on Yavin IV), same in ESB (a few scenes on Hoth) and ROTJ (briefing scene and during the battle).

Even if you make the assumption that Ackbar would still be around playing a part in the Alliance's navy, which is quite slim when you look at the track record of Alliance leaders from the previous two films (I always took their lack of reappearance as a fun way of saying that Alliance leaders don't survive for too long, as they were prime assassination targets), we don't have to see that if our heroes are off on their own adventure. Going off the track record of the OT, I suspect our heroes will often be out on their own, without an army to back them up.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't hear about things that are going on, through other characters. That was one of the things that I thought was great about ANH, you got this real sense that the galaxy was under the rule of the Emperor, without ever seeing him. We knew there was this menacing crime lord who had a bounty on Han Solo's head, but we never saw him (well until that whole mystery was wrecked by the joke that is the SE digital Jabba).

 

I heard he ran for Chancellor but a scandal involving him having an affair with Ellie the Octopus put a damper on it.

So no....

 

We have heard the Admiral Ackbar rumor as well. Multiple sources once again have said that a really great Admiral Ackbar head was constructed and it looks identical to the guy in Return of the Jedi.

My goodness, it's one leak after the other! what the heck's going on?

Btw, I wouldn't mind seeing Ackbar again, although too many characters seem to plague the movie. We need space for the story to develop.

Oh and I'm fine with Ackbar returning in a minor role. If not him then some sort of Mon Cal would make sense...they did create the main battle cruisers of the alliance after all.

 

That would be awesome!

 

It seems on every announcement of something returning people are complaining. It's almost like this is a sequel guys.
I honestly don't get this weird attitude. Is it due to some sort of attachment to the extended universe, wanting more and more bs added to the universe that some failed writer can make a series of pamphlets about? Jesus, it's a little insane.

 

I bet Ackbar gets to say "I have a bad feeling about this" in EVII

 

Yes - Madine had the worst haircut & facial hair in the OT....he looked like a space hippie, and his beard looked fake...

I don't mind the idea of Ackbar being back, even if it's just a cameo - the Mon Calamari was an interesting alien design...would also like to see the Prune Face rebels & Nien Numb make a return...

Well, he appears to be an admiral in Leia's Resistance, which means that when she struck out on her own. (Since it appears that Leia's forces are separate from the mainline New Republic) he went with her.

It begs the question: did the New Republic decide not to pursue action against the First Order as to not incite further war, or because they couldn't spare the necessary resources to get the job done?

 

What if the New Republic refuses to do anything about this new threat (New Order), and Leia takes it upon herself to start the Resistance...and also has to call up some old friends out of retirement...

 

Gial Ackbar for Episode VII! Very cool! The inner fanboy in me is taking over!
I only hope that he will not say 'it's a trap!' again. It would be nice if he has some new, cool one-liners.

Honestly I'd love to have Ackbar back but what distinguishing features confirm that this is him? It could be just a random Mon Calamari and we've all fallen into... A trap!

he could have a patch on the other eye.

 

I love how Ackbars lieutenants are all mon calamari as well. He's like, rolling with his crew.

 

His new line:
