i like ackbar because he makes me feel safe. there's something very paternal about him. when he's around i know every thing's gonna be ok.

In Aftermath, the Imperials (but never the Rebels) refer to Ackbar as "Grand Admiral Ackbar".

    Will he speak?
Will he sound like Erik Bauersfeld?
Will the practical effect be consistent with the OT such that his oral movements are out of sync with his voice?

Yeah, isn't Grand Admiral an Imperial rank only? Doesn't seem right calling one of the good guys a Grand Admiral. I would think the resistance would call him a Fleet Admiral or just Admiral.

I suspect the animatronics will be improved somewhat - but not to the point he will look unrecognizable when he speaks.

Probably right. Which is why I think Iron_lord pointed out that he's called that by the Imperials, and not the good guys.

Hopefully he'll be augmented with CGI. When practical and CGI come together they make the most realistic looking characters.

the voice is the most important part. i really hope the original actor who voiced him comes back. They already got the same puppeteer back.
p.s. rick why couldnt u stand up to george and tell him some of his ideas were bad in the prequels?

I Are The Internets That wasn't me! I believe you are referring to Brick Mer-Man who was not only a villain to He-Man (and the Masters of the Universe) but also to Trekkies all over the universe.

I imagine Ackbar will be incredibly senile in VII, so there'll be a scene where Ackbar just drops his pants and proclaims IT'S A CRAP

You know, cuz potty humor lulz

That was by design, to rhyme with the OT.

But it really doesn't matter about the Neimodians; I don't think JJ includes them in his canon.

I'm fine with a random Nemoidian popping up somewhere

But I'd be much happier with seeing a higher percentage of unfamiliar aliens. If the Star Wars galaxy is what some sources like WookieP estimate, then for each species of intelligent alien we've actually seen on-screen, there are something like 20,000 more we haven't seen (the exact figure isn't important after a certain point).

That still leaves room for Ackbars and Nein Numbs and Nemoidians and Hammerheads and Twileks to show up. That's cool, they're part of the universe, but the more times I think "what the f is up with that guy?" looking at some strange alien, the better. One example I remember was that long-necked (Poof?) guy on the Jedi Council in Ep 1. Once his head started moving back and forth lol I almost stopped caring about the rest of the scene because it was so perfect.

I'm not sure we know that "Grand Admiral" is an Imperial rank, yet, in canon... "Grand General" was introduced into canon with the Marvel comics, but I think "Grand Admiral" is still non-canon as an official rank. Wookieepedia shows it having a Canon tab, but that tab only refers to Ackbar having that rank--yet if only Imps are calling him by it, it may not be official at all, and could be done semi-mockingly, knowing he's an Admiral but is exerting authority like their own Grand General Tagge has, so they call him a Grand Admiral. Perhaps the Imperial "fleet admiral" from Aftermath will bear such a title officially in the next Aftermath book...

Admiral Kassius Konstantine has 4 "rank cylinders" in Rebels - like Tarkin. Other Admirals seen (Piett and Ozzel, in the OT) have only 3. Maybe that's a hint that he's a higher ranking admiral than those 2?

I hope the new canon will have a consistent rank badge system, more like ESB (and what the EU/fans cobbled together) than the dullness of ROTJ's "everyone has a 3x2 badge or none at all". Rebels at least gave Konstantine a proper Admiral badge, and that supply officer had a 2x2, but the two doofs from the Academy that Inky beheaded wore identical 3x2 badges... mix it up a little! Introduce more of the ANH single-row badges, too!

It's possible the cylinders could mean something there, like a difference between vice, rear, and fleet admirals. Probably not denoting "Grand Admiral"; I'd like to think the Story Group would have a Thrawn-style badge for that rank, if/when it's introduced properly, separate from the regular Admiral badge..
