Bendu didn't defeat Thrawn though. Bendu foresaw his defeat before he himself died (Or disappeared at least). Bendu sure was something that was not common occurence, but still natural I would say. I think there is no need for natural/supernatural division in Star Wars, force-related phenomena could be a better word than "supernatural".
Mortis Gods too were ultimately mortal and limited beings even though their abilities sure bordered what can be called supernatural at least in other context than that of Star Wars in which technology too borders supernaturality, but Mortis Gods didn't actually exist in normal universe anymore. Their existence itself is disputed they appeared what seemed like a Force vision. But sure Filoni likes to extend Force-related phenomena which plays with borders of the reality and life and death.

Thrawn was defeated by something he couldn’t predict like at all. No way in hell could he have imagined Ezra getting the purgil to take him all the way to another galaxy

I’m hoping they mix things up with Thrawn and that it’s not just a straight forward invasion of the Republic. I’m not interested in yet another planet destroying super weapon. No attaching an Eclipse-class star destroyer to that hyperspace ring returning to blow a planet up with it,I don’t care to see Thrawn having established an Empire in the other Galaxy in 10 years with one ship.

We already got this in TFA and RoS.

If I recall, one of the members of the shadow council in Mandalorian season 3 was under the impression that if the Empire returned that people would rally around it. It’s easy to dismiss that as arrogant wishful thinking. But I wouldn’t mind it if Thrawn is more of a populist leader and that the people themselves rise up against Democracy into a Civil War. There’s recent history to draw inspiration from.

Loved most aspects of Thrawns return but... costume wasn't great. Fit/tailoring was bad and it looked surprisingly cheap and unkempt. Willing to write this up to him and his troops being stranded for so long, though.

However, the raggedy appearance of Thrawn and the troops raises an interesting question; has the Chimaera been able to go off-world from Peridea at all?

Has Thrawn been able to explore this new galaxy, hell even the star system, in order to figure out what the lay of the land in NG (New Galaxy) is? Because, let's keep in mind; the ship looked quite broken down and hobbled together. Also, it certainly doesn't look like Ezra has gone off-world at any point. Maybe that's been the case for Thrawn as well? Maybe the Chimaera has just been cruising in the atmosphere all this time.

At the same time, there seems to be an overall threat or dark force that has lit a fire under Thrawn and the witches to get away from the planet and/or galaxy, and he would've likely needed to go off-world to learn of this threat.

Just so many mysteries. I love it.

I'm not a technical expert, but I did notice that the Chimaera's three largest engines weren't glowing; only the four smaller ones looked 'active'. In my mind, I took that to mean that the main drives were busted, and that the ship couldn't break orbit.

Loved the look of live action Grand Admiral Thrawn. His eyes, his voice. The music. Love that he is as smart as should be. Him wanting to know everything about Ahsoka shows his intellect.

They definitely seem to be lacking some engines, but they were also not present at the initial meeting point on Peridea and had to get "called" to come back; either they actually are capable of Galactic travel in Peridea's Galaxy and were off planet when the Eye of Sion arrived, or they were engaged in some operations on the far side of Peridea they needed to finish first.

Given their rough-hewn and scarred-over look, they seem to have been seeing regular action regardless.

Either Peridea itself is a highly dangerous planet or the Galactic situation has yet to be revealed.

I think it would be a bit of a waste just to drop in to one single planet and then fly away again.
The costume looks better from other angles - and a similarly unflattering effect can be observed in some shots of Baylan, since their costumes share a high belt designed for a look from the front, and both Mikkelson and the late Stevenson had good posture that just kind of naturally thrusts the stomach forward. It just looks worse on Thrawn because he's also got his hands crossed behind his back, making his bodies forward bend seem fuller than it actually is.

I saw some people complaining about Lars Mikkelsen playing the character, but IMHO he was perfect choice.
Not just because he already voiced Thrawn in Rebels but because his physicality.
The main is really tall and Thrawn looked like a giant compared to others actors ( even the troopers).
    Very Imposing and scary.

This was a deliberate costuming decision. The troopers look extremely ragged. Thrawn as their commanding officer is trying to keep up a better appearance, but even his uniform is frayed in places. It’s emphasizing that this exile has not been pleasant.

    That's what I'm hoping/thinking, yeah!

If that is indeed the case, consider my nitpicky criticism of that particular point completely withdrawn.

Man, I wonder what Thrawn, Enoch and the Chimaera regiment has been up to out there.

Obviously the undead angle makes the most sense right now, but I wonder if the “Night Troopers” working for him might actually be at least partially made up the Peridean version of the Nightbrothers. At several points during their chanting they and Enoch were speaking an alien language

    Also, just now noticing the specific wording Thrawn uses when Elsbeth suggests sending more than two squads with Baylan and Shin.... you know, right after he is done looking at her like she just insulted Eli Vantos ability to read cargo manifests;

"DURING this exile, our numbers have dwindled. So, no. Two squads will suffice."

During, not "since our exile" or "due to our exile". During. That, to me, suggests a whole lot of stormtroopers survived when the Chimaera was flung to Peridea, only to end up dead later.

But who or what killed them during the years they spent there? I have a hard time thinking Thrawn just straight up gave them up for human sacrifice to the Great Mothers. It would be illogical and unstrategic as the rest would just turn on him right away.

No, I think something is afoot here. Some... thing killed the troopers in combat and Thrawn did what he could to keep the regiment up and running, including reviving the soldiers who fell in his service. Perhaps thats why they are so loyal to him?

Assuming they are in fact not zombies and actually retains human conciousness, they probably consider Thrawn close to a god at this point - having fought for them and "kept them alive" for a decade now.

Or I am just dead wrong on everything and Thrawn just fed his troops one by one to the Nightsister meat grinder for ****s and giggles. But I hope not.

Going against my theory would be the fact that Ezra has seeming just been chilling with some Ninja Space Turtles and clearly doesnt seem to have been a part of a harrowing conflict. Maybe the baddies are on the other side of the planet? I have no clue.

Yeah during that exchange it felt like we were witnessing a traumatized Thrawn reflecting on how his men were shredded by some sort of horrific creature from hell.

I think Thrawn has seen some horrors on the planet that might've turned him a little crazy, sorta like Kurtz from Heart of Darkness.

That's my bold prediction. Thrawn is Kurtz!

Also maybe Thrawn hasn't gone after Erza because he's scared of the creature out there that attacked his men. Maybe Thrawn stays on his ship all the time because he's afraid.

Side note, are we to assume Thrawn has been on this planet the whole time? Why didn't he go to other planets in the galaxy?

I think the fact that only a few of the engines of the ISD were actually functioning implies it has severely limited travel capabilities. It might just be a flying boat. The flying dutchman analogy seems apt.

They haven't been chilling. He says they can't stay in one place too long. It is a dangerous world, there is no doubt about it.

No need to "write it up" to that, as if it's just headcanon. That's exactly why his uniform looks the way it does.
