Not that that would give her an edge over a Jedi.

Supposedly Lucasfilm have registered the domain name Captain Phasma and for no other reason than "why not?" the scuttlebutt is giving this name to Christie

I agree, it really could be anyone. Could just be a very small character.

Thankfully there aren't too many of them around with Luke being neutralized or in hiding. But she could easily end up being the villain that bites it in this episode via Luke near the end.

    Who's she related too?

Let's spend the next 2 weeks analyzing the name Phasma to figure out which OT character's daughter she is.

Because nobody can be in this movie unless they're the child of an OT character.

I was going to go with the father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate of Sy Snootles.

I don't think Captain Phasma screams "Gwendoline Christie!" all over at all. I think most of you guys are just easily fooled by the role Gwen's playing in Mockingjay Part 2, "Commander Lyme" which sounds similar because of its military associations.

Captain Phasma may very well be a registred name for a character in Rebels. Or it could be Max Von Sydow. Or it could be Domhnall Gleeson. Or it could be Warwick Davis.

A phasma is a big walking stick with wings so far as I know. Captain Phasma sounds fine to me and very sci-fi. It makes me picture something out of Flash Gordon maybe but that's probably not a bad thing.

If it's even in the movie, my guess is that it's just being used for a very minor character in the Captain Panaka, Captain Typho sort of vein. Fits right in with Christie rumors but really it could be just about anybody.

Phasma is not a name you want to be saying over and over again. I HIGHLY doubt Christie's character will be called Phasma. At least Typho and Panaka sound like names.

Are you kidding me? Seriously, are you for real? Cody vs Phasma? Han vs Phasma?

Well, it kind of is. Captain Phasma sounds less like a military title and more like a superhero alias.

I wouldn't necessarily say Ackbar is a bad name, it means "Great" in Arabic.[face_batting]

    Cody
    Solo
    Fortuna
    Veers
    Biggs
    Moore

    And, oddly enough
    Nute Gunray

Skywalker too. That is one of the silliest of all. Unless this is a movie about Native American Heritage and Legacies, then it works for awesome!

It's cool because you grew up with it. If we were here on the internet waiting for ANH instead of TFA and that name leaked, it would be absolutely skewered.

    sorry but I disagree,;)
it's cool partly because it's original, all I can say is that it's better than all the new names that's for sure: Ren, Phasma, Dameron.:p

The Tarkin novel gives a bit of a wink to Episode 7. Not only does it spell out again that there are female imperial officers, but the Imperial ambassador to Murkhana is described as being a tall, broad-shouldered woman who wears stormtrooper armor. Between the two, it's not hard to believe he purposely wrote those things as a precursor to a tall, broad-shouldered female chrometrooper captain.

Cripes! People up at arms over SW character names?!?! There was a time, circa 1977, when SW was hailed for not using conventional science fiction character and planet names. Wookie, Chewbacca, Greedo, Jedi, Skywalker, Yavin, Jawa, etc. didn't scream Space 1999 or Star Trek. Tattooine could've been called Rygel VIII. Delta Major, or Sagittarius Phobos XV or something!
