Han and Leia fans unite!!!!

I like Sue Zahn's fics. I don't know, to me she has both of them *nailed*. I especially liked that one that took place on cloud city; I could just really picture that whole scene taking place.

I liked that "On a turn of a dream" one too. Except for the part when Leia got pissed about Han punching Lando. I think she overreacted. But otherwise I liked it alot.

Worst? I dunno, there are a lot of *bad* fanfics out there-unfortunately. Probably that one I read a couple of weeks ago where Leia slept with Karrde (and liked it!) and Han did it with Mara Jade. Ugh
And that one where Leia sleeps with Vader is pretty high up on the list too. But that one atleast made me *laugh*, where the Karrde one gave me nightmares for a week. (well not really, but you know what I mean....)

Sue Zahn writes good TESB-era fan fic; it shows she really pays attention to Han and Leia's nuances. I like Dianora's stuff, but having read her X-Files shipper fan fic, she replaces Mulder and Scully with Han and Leia, and there you go. Most of Cindy Olson's fic is good; however there's one I just read in a zine that doesn't end happily for our couple (gasp, the horror!).

 

I heard about that fic. Han sleeps with another woman right?

 

Just a quick question: Where can I find the best Han/Leia (or just Han fics on the net? Like your favs?

Sorry Yanksfan =( I just wanted to know other Han/Leia fan's opinions on it. Apparently on the OZ most people think it is very realistic and in character. One review at CPOV said this person has hands down the best characterization of Han they have ever seen.

But please THE WOMAN WAS A PROSTITUTE WHO APPEARED FOR 2 BLOODY SECONDS THEN LEFT!!! She was meaningless to Han and to the story of Star Wars. SHE WAS NOT THE LOVE OF HAN'S LIFE!! Grrrr. Why the author wasted such writing talent on such trash is beyond me.

 

Really??? They think this is in character for Han? Even at OZ???? I'm shocked, especially since Leia gets the shaft (well, I mean I am assuming she does. I haven't finished it yet-but I will! if for no other reason than to complain about it bitterly afterwards )

Yeah, I think this writer would have potential, but she needs to pull herself out of that Mary Sue rut first. (it's a baaad place to be!)

 

LOL yes, it's supposed to be one of the greatest fics and beautifully written and very plausible by the fanfic community, and the fanfic writer is called "The Queen of Han Solo". *cough* yeah, right! *cough*

Hehe, and the name: Jessandra HALLORAN? Ripping off Harrison Ford's movie Hanover Street I see!

Yep, Jessandra was a Mary Sue. Obviously the writer wanted to put herself as Han Solo's soulmate....but if you're going to do that write yourself as Leia! Some people puzzle me. And also, she kept referring to Jessandra as beautiful. I saw those pics, that woman was just a bit above average looking.

I'm not sure why I finished it....I must have a masachist streak. Oh, but I can't wait to hear your comments on it Yanksfan

Look we started this thread to talk about them in the movies. The special UNIQUE and fastasy-esque(Is that a term? Well you know what I mean) relationship they shared. Not this mundane, REALISTIC, "What my real life husband/boyfriend would do to me", stuff.

I would say about 90% of fanfics are garbage. They have nothing to do with the Saga and are only fans(some of whom are not really fans) ideas of what characters should be. Sometimes they write characters like people they know in real life. But it is just not the way the characters are. Or they write a story and just plug in the characters.

Han would NOT cheat on Leia

Leia would NOT cheat on Han.

Han is not a scumbag

Leia is not a b*tch.

I just don't know HOW people could think a Han who cheats is a dead on characterization. It disturbes me to think that people will look at his character and go "yeah he would cheat.."

NO! NO! NO!

Same with Leia. These characters are supposed to be HEROES in the most basic sense. They are far above this.



Let's talk about ESB and then ROTJ from now on. Just for awhile at least. O.k.??? No fanfics or EU. Just for awhile.

 

Sorry jewlmc......I wouldn't say 90% of fanfics are bad. Fanfics are what fuel my Han/Leia obsession, I love reading romantic ones between the two of what happened after ROTJ....just the rare one *cough* Minor Complications *cough* turn my stomach. Then I need to read more Han/Leia fanfic to recover.

No and I never will. I think that 90% is an exagerration..maybe 70% There are some good ones. I liked Checkmate by Sue Zahn(I think it is her) It is the one that is on the Ewok bridge when Han misinterprets her feelings for Luke. I like some of Marie's but like you said they are too screwed up. Did you ever read "Invevitable Circumstances"? That was good. And "Between the Lines."
And "The Dance", And "What's for dinner?" by Sweetheart. Those are good.

I hate fanfics that A) Have a blatent Mary Sue. B) Bring back Bria or some brat of hers. C) Have either of them cheat on each other. D)Bring up the whole "We are so different" crap. I mean DUH. Their differences are what makes them so good. But they are also VERY simimlar in many ways.
E)Fanfics that directly tie in with EU. ESPECIALLY when trying to tie in with EU stops the author from going someplace with the story.


But come on we haven't even started with ESB. Where did we leave off?

 

one more commment: (ignores jewlmc's impatient glare) ;-) Have you guys ever read the MSTIED stories at fanfix? PRICELESS. LOL! They take bad fics and make them brilliantly funny. I liked "Celebration" a lot. That one had me rolling on the floor. I wish people would write more of those. They're great...

Okay, okay, back to the movies. (sorry!) Uhm..where were we? I think we talked about their fight right? So that takes us to when Han goes back and pulls her out of the comand center. Or do we want to talk about Leia's worry when Han and Luke are out in the snow?

Oh! and since we were speculating about when Han "first loved" Leia or what he said or whatver the other day-I thought I would ask what was the first thing *Leia* said. Well, I was watching ANH yesterday (you know, it was on TBS yesterday and also nothing was stopping me) and I have to say: when Han takes off after the storm troopers and Leia's like "he certainly has courage.." that's it. Just *look* at her. The woman is ready to take off after him! HA HA. Seriously, she wants to pounce. Just take a look, you'll see I'm right.

LOL Ariel I read that fanfic too! It was just disgusting! Who wants to read about Isolders "large, pulsating shaft" and how many times he and Leia do it a night? Gag me! And don't even get me started on the Han and Jessa thing. That was not a relationship, that was just them having sex over and over!

When Leia finds out she loves him? I think when he's lost on Hoth she realizes just how much she loves him. And, of course when he goes back to save Luke, she's very impressed by this and it intrigues her.

Han - I would say he definitely had a thing for her from the moment he saw her. I think his feelings for her were evident before ESB, so I suppose they took place "off-screen". When he REALLY found out he loved her, I would say same time - on Hoth, lost with Luke, thinking he might die. His thoughts were probably with her all night long

Out of curiosity, what does the gang here think of Bria, Xaverri, Salla, Jessa, etc.?

 

geez, that fic DOES sound horrible!! and I think that I like Bria best of all the others. Although she should stay dead. I cried in that book, thinking about how she could hurt Han so much!! And twice!!

 

k_solojedi, since you don't seem to read my PMs, can I please ask you to stop posting off-topic stuff in the LFL - stop abusing Han and Leia thread. Please concentrate on the topic at hand - Han and Leia and their romance in the EU. It is not a place to discuss if Leia looks good or not with a buzzcut, or if Luke and Mara are a bad couple. If you're going to say something say "Save Han and Leia's romance!" Or "let Leia keep her legs!" or something like that. Otherwise the thread will get too messy.

Okay, ESB and my 'when did Leia first love Han" discussion is merging brilliantly here (go me!)--Anyways, I think that night on Hoth when Han and Luke are missing is when Leia first *realized* she loved Han--but I think the AUDIENCE knows it by ANH when Han takes off after the stormies. that's my take

Bria... HATE her. Xaverri.. eh. Salla.... same thing, no opinion either way. You see Salla and Xaverri and such did not undermine Han and Leia's relationship like the "existance" of Bria.

 

OK Bria.....well. She does not exist, and if she did I would kill her. Oops she's dead! hahaha

Xaverri bothered me because of that time Han ran into her and he held her for the whole night and her arms were around him. That's inappropiate behaviour for a married man. OK, and then it annoyed me that Han still had feelings for Xaverri, when according to AC Crispin Han loved Bria far more than he loved Xaverri, so therefore he should have even stronger feelings for Bria still. Oh, and I got the feeling AC Crispin thought Xaverri = Leia, since they were both Han's "rebound" after losing Bria (since he lost her twice).

 

I forgot about that Xaverri thing. But crystal Star was just SOOO bad that I blocked the whole book out.

Anyways back to the films.

What is Leia thinking about when they close the doors on Hoth? Other than the obvious. Who is she more worried about?

Well I am going to go wtih my instincts on this one. My first impression when I was a kid was "Look at that! She *does* like him!" And that has always been my impression since then: Han. She's worried about Luke too, of course. But with Han she also has that regret of having had their last words be biting ones.

 

She's thinking about Han. It says so in the ESB novelization. She's *disturbed* that she's more worried about Han than Luke, but she is thinking about him. I'll quote it here when I find my ESB novelization.

 

Hey did anyone read that new story at the Corellian Embassy? It was so weird! Han was like making love and had a telepathic bond to a beautiful goddess who was infinitely more beautiful than Leia, and then she turns into a cat or something and Han's turned on by this! Very strange. And then he keeps saying this woman is the best lover in the world, and Leia should take some lessons from her.

Isn't it annoying how fanfic writers always have to SPECIFICALLY mention that their creation is more beautiful than Leia and that Han thinks so? Especially at the Corellian Embassy. What's with that? And, what's with making all the woman tall and blonde and Han thinks that's great? It's like saying petite brunettes are automatically ugly or something.

Oh well, ending my rant now.

I'm gonna have to check this out now of course.
