Well, I remember when Star Wars came out and I was 7 (in '77) I liked them both. To this day I have a thing for guys with 70's style hair because of Luke and Han. By the time Empire came out and I was 10 I was totally into Han. I guess like Leia, I like scoundrels, not nice men!

kd = Luke fangirl from day one (1977). A powerful man with a pure heart is a combination I find irresistable...And, oh my, those eyes! ;)

I'd have to go with my boy luke. Super cool Jedi, and my doesn't he look lovely in his Dagobah training sessions. Not to mention his uber cool Jedi blacks. Oh yeah and I love his eyes. Also, he's sweet, kind and says things like "I'm Luke Skywalker, I'm here to rescue you." Plus the kids got the rocks to mouth off to the two most powerful men in the galaxy when he's alone in the room with BOTH of them. My kinda guy!

I definitely think Luke is a lot more desirable than Han. Personally, I don't find Han attractive at all. I adore the blonde, blue-eyed wholesome look. Return of the Jedi is the film I think Luke looks the hottest; I really like the black clothes, the more mature look, and as others have said before me, he has a really nice butt. His personality also makes me attracted to him. Luke is such a nice, empathetic guy who chooses the right path in the end. And his Jedi powers just make him all the more sexy.

Han. At the very least bc no one can with the OT w/o being aware the Han is Harrison Ford. But who follows Hamill's career? Maybe at the Hamill was more popular--he was younger, blonde hair blue eyes, and played the hero, who also turned out to be a nice character. And before GL made him Leia's sister, he was the leading romantic interest.

Han, for sure! Knew it back when ANH came out, and still think so! He's human, adult, and a rogue with a heart of gold. Han may find it hard to make friends, but once a person is in that circle, he'd do anything for them. Luke may be a "farmboy," but he strikes me as too aloof, not to mention whiney.

(I always thought Han should get Leia, even before knowing Luke & Leia were siblings.)

 I just love the way everyone always talks about Luke being whiny, when he had ONE whiny line in the whole damn trilogy (i.e. the power converters line), and he WAS only a teenager at the time! And yet, no one says a thing about Han whining throughout the whole saga ("It's not my fault!")

Luke is 100 times more appealing to me than Han could ever hope to be.

And as for Harrison Ford's vs. Mark Hamill's career paths...well, Mark is perfectly happy with the way his career has gone. He's wanted to do the cartoon thing from the time he was a child. He has never NOT worked since the SW saga finished, between his comic publishing, his broadway work, his directing... And now he's been happily married to the same woman for over 25 years, while Harrison has a freakin' earring at the age of 60 and is dating a woman young enough to be his daughter.

Harrison Ford was just lucky that George and Steven Spielberg decided to cast him in the Indiana Jones role or most people would probably be saying "Harrison who? Wasn't he in that space movie?" these days.

Gotta throw my hat in with the Luke-love! I've long suffered from Skywalker-lust. LOL I do think that Han (Harrison) is really attractive, too, but I find Luke/Mark to be much more so. It's all in the blue eyes and the tank top on Dagobah! =P~ I love Luke in all his incarnations--and even though I think his hair cut from ROTJ is pretty bad...I can look past it. :p

I'll take me a tanned, bright blue-eyed, blond farmboy-Jedi anyday of the week. [face_love]

I've already posted in this thread about who I like the best (Luke that is[face_love]), I've also posted about his hair and behind, but now that the tank top on Dagobah has come up, I again can't keep my mouth shut. I'm actually very surprised that The Arms of all arms doesn't come up more often. I'm thinking of changing favourite SW movie because of them. They're very likable. [face_love]

And about the whining; he does whine, but that's a good thing, it's cute. And Harrison Ford is also nice.

My girl Emilei's right, he whines because Luke whines because he's stuck on Tatooine.

I'm a Luke girl, love the Jedi Blacks, love the eyes, love the speeches in RotJ.

Han was good looking, but I look at Harrison Ford now and think... my God he aged so badly. At least Mark still looks alright for his age.

I was talking about Han Solo as a character, not Harrison Ford. I'm glad to hear Mark Hamill is happy with his life, that's all too rare these days, especially for actors. I agree, Harrison Ford dating a woman that is around my age? Crazy!!!

As for Han's whining, you're right, but somehow his lines ("It's not my fault!" "I don't know, fly casual!") strike people as being amusing rather than whiny. Also, what about Luke's line to Jabba in RotJ "That's the last mistake you'll ever make?" The way he said it also struck me as whiny rather than calm, cool, and confident. I read somewhere that Mark Hamill said he purposely made Luke whiny and naive in the first movie, to show room for growth in the character. He did it very well, I have to say!

Hey, at least My thread... can I drool here?

Back in '77, I was 12 and I happily exchanged the trade cards from "the blonde guy" for the ones with "the dark-haired one". I remeber my friends were all crazy for Luke, all of them except me. And of course I had a big crush with Han by ESB time (which I saw on my 15th birthday).
So, it's always been basically Han for me.
Although I recently discovered what a nice butt Luke shows in Dagobah, but I developed my taste for butts later.

Luke was my very first crush as a wee lass and it's lasted for over 20 years.[face_love]

Han's great, but I've dated too many scoundrels IRL to find him that attractive anymore. [face_beatup]:p

Han was a bit too slow about showing any intergrity, so as for me, I prefer Luke. He had the best of Anakin and Padme in him. Once he matured into a full grown man and courageous Jedi, he was sexy as hell. :D

Scoundrels wit a heart of gold, selfless scoundrels, that's what I like, obviously there aren't many of them in IRL...
"When he comes back, I won't get in your way..." I bet Luke couldn't do that without turning dark! :D (Although, thinking twice, Dark Luke is definitely sexy)

The rant about Harrison was really more directed at PrinceEspaaValorum. And there are quite a few people who devotedly follow Mark's career. It really gripes me that just because he wasn't in the big name movies that Harrison was, people consider Mark's career a 'failure'. I actually do like Harrison Ford (I just like Mark better), but his kind of stardom is the exception for actors, not the rule. Mark has been just as successful, simply in a different way. And, yes, Harrison dates (is living with? I'm not sure) Calista Flockhart, of TV's Ally McBeal.

You see the "That's the last mistake you'll ever make." as whiny? I would have thought of it more as a bit cocky.

Honestly, the only line I see as truly whiny is the power converters one. The rest of the time in ANH, he's excitable. In ESB, he's so impatient. By the time ROTJ rolls around, he's cool and confident. [face_love] I just love my Lukie!!

Yes, I do see it as whiny. You're assessment here of Luke, overall, though is a good one. Like I said, Mark Hamill was showing the development of the character, and he did an excellent job!

Also, I didn't realize you were ranting. It still amazes me that someone around my age would go out with someone so many years older, I did know about the Callista thing. Oh, well, to each their own; there are those my age who go out with boys 20 years younger, too! I couldn't see doing the "boy toy" thing either. I prefer a man, thank you very much...

By the end of the O/T I liked Luke best (full Jedi - whoo hoo) but while Luke was in his youthful stage - Han was more appealing. Not that he was that appealing.
Young Obi Wan from the P/T is the most appealing now.. just in case you wondered!

Well, I wasn't around in the 70's....so I'll just go from what I remember from the mid 80's on.

Both characters I found attractive in their own way. It was their personalities that first drew me in and their looks came second. I always found Han more attractive possibly because of his bad-boy image. To my misfortune <perhaps?> (lol), I've always been attracted to guys with an edge.

Luke in ESB made me swoon. (I admit it!---Luke was my first screen crush/with exception of Johnny Depp) Luke, I always saw as being more like marriage material. Like the type of guy a gal would settle down with. Han (or "frat guy" as I adoringly call him), on the other hand, is the type a gal will live it up with, until maturity decides to kick in.

When I first saw Star Wars (at the age of nine or ten - on tape, might I add), I liked Luke better than Han. Not in a crush-like way, though. I thought Luke (still think he is) was the typical nice guy and that Han was just plain mean. It wasn't until I got older that I realized - understood - Han wasn't mean, so much as sarcastic. Having grown into a somewhat cynical person myself, I prefer Han. I like his sense of humor. And he's not ugly...

That's to say, I kind of think it worked out okay for Leia. She gets "the" guy and the nice one is her brother.

    Hope that made some sense.

Luke is mine!! I really go for blonde guys, and his eyes are just so gorgeous!! I have this one picture on my computer that makes my heart skip a beat every time I look at it. Luke's just got this...I dunno...thing about him. He's nieve, but he's not. I love his hair at the medal ceremony on Yavin, and I love to just sit and stare during the scene in ANH where he's looking out at the twin suns. I have a friend of mine who was a complete Anakin person, but after she watched ANH, she changed her mind. Oh, and Luke is very sexy. Omgosh I did NOT just say that. Let's hope Mark Hamill isn't looking. [face_whistling] (Just kidding *waves*)

Say what you like about Han, but give me a bright blue-eyed farmboy any day of the week! Stupid EU...couldn't they have left him single?!

because ZOMG everywun has 2 have twu wub! Just kidding. I don't mind that Luke got married in the EU - I'd have been happy with it either way. It's not apathy, it's transcendent contentment. Cross my heart.:D

Anyhow... back in the 80s I didn't care too much for either one of them, as I was born the year ESB came out (and only saw a little clip of the films until the 90s). Luke's cute and Han's attractive - there is a difference, but it's irrelevant because I like them both the same in terms of looks. If personality counts too then I pick Han.
