A poll at CBS.com before the show had Luke Skywalker ahead by a decent margin. At the top of the list. And he didn't even make the top 50? Lassie did? ***...

DLM Edit: I'm not supposed to let you use that abbreviation for some reason.

I was surprised Luke didn't make the list too. At least they showed some clips of him from the other people on the list including the one of him in RotJ where he's trying to turn Vader back to the good side.

Showing clips of him isnt enough. I would have thought he would have cracked the top 10, esp after Han Solo got #14. That was surprising!! And Luke still didnt make it.

This is one of the dumbest polls yet.

I was pissed that Luke didn't make it anywhere on the list. Come on. How can you choose Obi-Wan and Han, but not Luke? And all the ads for this special even showed some clips of Luke!!

Keep in mind, though, that only 1,500 voted on this thing, so it's most-likely hardly accurate. They should make these kind of specials a nation-wide vote or something.

Han Solo was picked over Luke Skywalker? Weird.

I agree with the #1 choices. Hannibal is a great villian, and Atticus is a definite hero. I'm surprised they picked Atticus as #1 though - not that it isn't deserved, it just seems odd that he was chosen above heroes like Superman.

Does anyone have the complete list? Or know if they'll be replaying the show? Because I'm curious and I'd like to see it or at least read the list.

I'm not really disappointed about Luke not being on the list (although I would have put Luke in instead of Maximus from Gladiator).

I was disappointed that Luke was not on the list of heroes at all. I mean, he saved the galaxy from the evil emperor and redeemed anakin skywalker, how much more heroic can one be??

I do not agree however that han shoulda been dropped in favor of luke. Remember he did save lukes butt on a few occassions. He displayed plenty of heroic traits in all the movies. (Is a Han fan, can ya tell? ;) )

I agree that Hannibal is a very villianous villian, but I was not impressed with the choice of Norman Bates, BAH! I say!

Anyways, that's my two cents :D

AFI is now officially a joke. No one should ever take any poll or list they make seriously again.

Where is Dr.Evil? Seriously man, that guy is an evil genius.

Edit: On a more serious note, I was very upset that Michael Myers, the original masked villan, did not make the list.

Yeah, the Halloween movies are great.

I'm glad to see there's quite a few Star Wars people on there, but most of those people/movies I've never even heard of.

That is because AFI is still worshipping characters from the long forgotten cinema of the early 20th century.

I thought Luke not making it was bogus, doesn't make sense, he's the hero of Star Wars, much more so then Han

At least Vader made top 3 for villains

Although I'd have put him as #1 or #2, come on, when people think of the ultimate movie villain he's definately one of the first pretty much everyone thinks of

i think that (unfair as it is) the reason Han made it over Luke is cuz Harrison Ford is more famous than Mark Hamill.. not only that but 2 other characters from Star Wars were being chosen.. i think perhaps Han and Luke were battling over the number 14 spot and they picked Harrison because people would recognize him :[face_sigh]: Luke deserved it though.. notice how most of the actors who made it were very famous and recognizable... i think, however, that we should be happy that all the major characters from the OT were atleast nominated!

I didn't read all the post. I'm in a hurry to write my thoughts.

The show was suppose to show VILLIANS and HEROS! not bad guys and good guys. the guy who won the # 1 spot for hero......is not a HERO! how the hell is he a hero. yeah he's a good guy, but not a hero.

When you say hero the #1 accually SUPER HERO of them all is Superman!! dam. those guys should of been picked higher. Heros should of been

    Superman
    Batman
    Spiderman
    Luke skywalker
    Neo

    you know accual heros.

And for villians why the heck to they pick "its a wonderful life" or something like that. the old business boss guy. he's nothing special. every big corporation has a boss that just wants money.

(i didn't watch the whole show. i just saw from 1-25)

    where are
    Chucky
    Predetor
Joker (which i got a feeling he was in the show since i heard batman was. but he should be within 25. he was a great villian)

they didn't even have The Emperor! yeah vader is bad, but without the emperor there'd be no empire, clone wars, jedi purdge or any of that.

that show reminded me of the oscars. a bunch of bull.

and where the heck was the terminator. (i heard he was on the show, but he should of been within 25 of best villian) including the T 1000 too.

ooo man that show was way off.

Perhaps you should look at the list I posted, which has all of the placements for winners.

The Joker is in the 40s, Terminator is 20 and 40 something, etc.

wow joker, batman, and terminator (as good guy) are in the high 40s (out of 50) thats pretty bad. Batman is not only a hero, but.........a SUPER hero.

and where is the predetor?! the alien is there why not him? I think the predetor is a better villian then the alien. you can't see him, plus he's stronger, and has cool weapons. like i said that list sucks.

Well it depends on what you interpret hero to mean

A hero I think in a movie is one who goes against the odds and does what is right even if they're alone in doing so

At first when I saw that Atticus Finch won I was surprised but if you think about it it's actually a very good choice, he defies racism in a time and place where that's practically all there was. And the movie was made before the civil rights movement if memory serves, so it was quite a statement to make

And although I agree that Hannibal is a great villain, one of the most interesting I've ever seen, I'd say he should be in the top ten but not #1

I can understand why the emperor wouldn't be on there, he was only in the ending of ROTJ. Where as Vader was in all 3 films from beginning to end and was/is considered the epitomy of villainy. He's very evil very fun to see on film and is perhaps the most recognizable cinematic icon there is

That's why i think Vader should have been #1, the emperor, while I think (when including the prequels) that he's the best villain ever, isn't the recognizable icon others are, and probably won't be until Ep. 3 comes out and people see Palpatine for what he is

Maybe I'm nuts, but I consider Vader a hero. What happens at the end of the saga is what really matters. The good guy/bad guy distinction is oversimplified and meaningless.

Vader is the villain, you can say Anakin is a hero though

I consider them to be two different people so I think Vader is still the greatest villain while Anakin is a hero, albeit a fallen one

Luke should be on instead of Han. What a frickin' joke. Ah, screw it. Nice to get any recognition at all, methinks.

Oh, and Agent Smith should have been nominated instead of Thomas Anderson.

    Well said, ForceHeretic.

Though I disagree with it, I can see how Hannibal Lector beat Vader. But Norman Bates? Please! It's not that he was a bad villain, but GrandAdmiralJello's post sums it all up.

As for Luke not making the list, I can't say I'm surprised. Despite the fact that he deserves it more than Han, I just can't picture him on the list for some reason. I'm glad Obi-Wan made it, though.
