Lucas did not write the Episode IV novelization, it was actually ghostwritten by Alan Dean Foster and the novelizations are definitely considered EU as they have things in them like Obi-Wan being Owen's brother.

To clarify, movie novelizations are canon where they align with what is seen on screen in the 6 films and the Clone Wars animated movie.

This is somewhat vague. You could take this to mean a couple different things. Plus "Del Rey has clarified their statement about the novelizations to emphasize that any contradictions with the films (i.e. Owen and Obi-Wan being brothers) are not considered canon."

To me, this basically means the novelizations don't have to be adhered to.

Besides it is really irrelevant to my point. My point is that something never mentioned in the any of the films is incredibly unlikely to come up in the ST.

I know, I kind of wish they had worded it differently. I took it to mean that anything in the novelizations that doesn't outright contradict the movies is canon.

    I completely agree.

Okay, but it was a Lucas idea though, not an EU decision.

Regardless, we agree that it it should be ignored - it has never been mentioned in any movie and does not suit Chewbacca.

He and Han are friends, there is honour code forcing Chewie to stay.

In fact, long before Han and Chewie met Ashoka saved the Wookie's life in TCW. Did he owe her a life debt?

    Life debts are stupid....

I think its more endearing if, ya know, Chewie chose to stay with Han or his offspring because...well...he likes them.

I personally believe that if (has has been generally believed) we are to see the end of Solo in VII? Then we will also witness the end of Chewy (with heavy heart) along with him. I can't see any reason for Chewy to continue as a serious, relevant character without Han? I mean the repartee between the 2 of them (with Han knowing exactly what the Wookie was saying and reacting to it) was so naturally comedic. I can't see anyone seamlessly taking on that mantle to make Chewy still relevant if/when Han kicks the bucket? If the end is to come? It would be fitting if it were to be the both of them. My opinion.

Time will tell how those two will end. If they do bite it, I hope they do go down in spectacular fashion.

Chewbacca is character in his own right - not an extension of Han.
