Gaming Haptic Feedback in Black (and a Trenchcoat): The PlayStation 5 Discussion Thread

I am dedicated and have a new TV but even if I had a job and the money for it, I wouldn't buy this now. It's just too expensive.

 

That’s gotta be one of the more idiotic things they have done. The PS4 pro was great as it upgraded to 4K. The PS5 is already 8K and not even tapping that yet. All I see is a bigger hard drive…

I bought a screen protector and stick tabs for portal. I really wish this thing was a smooth player. I’m only comfortable doing simple battles and exploration on it. Any cutscenes are a no go and console only. Idk if there’s anything else i can do to make it run smoothly after putting a cat 6 cable to PS5.

 

Oh, it ain't 8k, that claim went out the window a few months back.

What you talking about? They shipped the things with 8K cables for hdmi 2.1 slots. It was talked about at some of the last E3s. I bought an 8K tv to future proof after hurricanes. They just said it would take a bit to get the game makers to get it there. I have no clue what your talking about.

 

8K doesn't matter because 8K TVs are dead. They don't make them anymore and it's totally useless because the human eye simply can't see the difference at that point. It was way too expensive so electronics companies stopped even triyng to push 8K.

Hmmm. I couldn’t find any 8K to at any stores the last 2 months.. didn’t know it was because they didn’t make them anymore. I passed up a big ole 86in LG at $1200….cause it was only 4K

 

Yeah they all stopped making 8K. There will likely be 8K speciality monitors and such but honestly no one actually needs them. If your local movie theater can protect a huge screen at 4k, you don't need 8k at home.... And there are no 8K sources to play on it anyway.

HDMI 2.1 cables are still important to have if you want 120 fps or 4k 60fps or features like VRR.

No. It will definitely be more powerful graphically in terms of both fidelity and frame rate.

Resolution is merely one small part of picture quality.

 

Yeah, they did, then a short while ago, that text was removed from PS5 boxes.

 

You know actually maybe I wouldn’t buy it even if I needed a PS5. Jesus.

 

Both XB and PS are going full tilt for their all-digital future, with the system shop monoplly they get from it.

 

I wonder if scalpers are the only ones to buy it and then cant re-sell it.

Not confident they can sell a solid dozen of them at that price.

 

I may be in the minority, but I've never felt the urgency to get a "Pro" model of any Playstation console.

 

The PS4 Pro was actually a bit step up. From 1080 to 4k was huge. It was worth it. But yeah this one is .. not it. Not at this price.

 

It was worth it to the people who had a 4K television back then. You can go out and buy a 4K TV for a couple of hundred dollars now. When the PS 4 Pro was released like 10 years ago, I'm pretty sure 4K TVs were the cream of the crop; and on top of the price spectrum (like what OLEDs are now) at the electronics stores.

 

Eh I had one, a TCL, in 2016 when the Pro came out. That was three years after 4k went to consumer markets in the USA.

 

Just saw the PS5 pro has launched. The PS4 that I preordered lasted me all the way until the PS5. I feel literally no need to get it

I’ll get the PS6 when it launches. I just feel like these half console generations feel pointless. But hey Somy if you want your money go make it I won’t stop you

 

They want us to buy a $700 console at the end of this year and then a PS6 two and half to three years from now. Nope!

 

Former Blizzard boss says the $700 PS5 Pro is really more like a $350 upgrade because it's aimed at people who can trade in their PS5s at "places like GameStop"

He's probably not far off at that. Again, a similar occurrence obviously happened when the PS4 came out; those who already had the original version likely traded up to the new one. Otherwise, why would you ever need to have two of the same console (albeit one with the better graphics)?

 

For $700 you could build a PC as good or better that would still be able to play top titles long after the console has been replaced.

 

Anyone have any good recommendations? Hopefully something from this year or last knowing I have barely played any games the last two years
