I used to say the same thing about Kevin J. Anderson's novels.

To you, maybe. I enjoy both games. Even *cough, cough* maybe the second a bit more, for nostalgia I-got-this-for-my-fifteenth-birthday reasons.

Canon is only what people like now. Even though when TCW retcons something they're ruining the idea that everything is canon!

I gotta admit, if you go with the Dark Apprentice and Vader-is-a-Trojan-Horse explanation, then I totally love the second game.

I'm still bummed we didn't get a DLC where TFU came full circle and ended with a Vader level, only this time with him totally trashing the Dantooine base.

    But that would wreck continuity!

What do you mean Vader-is-a-Trojan-Horse explanation? That the dark side ending is canon, or that he was intentionally captured?

On the other hand, I did wish for a light side DLC if they weren't making TFU3. But it relied on Boba and/or the Dark Apprentice breaking Vader out before they got to Dantooine or else ANH continuity error.

That he was intentionally captured, yeah, and only mocking Starkiller at the end, with it having been his plan to get captured, and the Rebels take him to their base.
Like that ever bothered TFU's writers before. :p

Evidently it wouldn't have bothered you either! :p

I find the idea that Vader planned TFU2 to be silly, TBH. The only net gain he achieved was the status quo before TFU2 began, i.e. Kota and Starkiller dead. Kota was captured and would have been executed if he wasn't rescued by Starkiller. It doesn't make Vader look anymore competent except that the Rebels trashed Kamino for no Imperial gain. I think it makes Vader look even more incompetent.

From what I've seen of Rebels so far (references to COMPNOR and such), it really wouldn't surprise me if we get a Bel Iblis cameo. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if we get Starkiller and Kota cameos.

Don't expect the founding of the Rebellion to play out exactly as in previous depictions, though.

I don't disagree -- my point is that Starkiller and Kota were attached to the founding of the Rebellion the same way that Bel Iblis was attached to it by Zahn. If SW Rebels shows the "official founding" of the Rebellion, and Bel Iblis isn't shown, people will come up with an explanation for why Bel Iblis wasn't seen, e.g. he was off-screen, he was doing something else. They won't go "Oh I guess the Thrawn trilogy is alt continuity now!" But that's certainly what people would say about TFU if Starkiller or Kota aren't seen. A lot of people that claim to care about continuity don't care about continuity at all, they just use it as an excuse to try to enforce the stories they like as canon and exclude the stories they dislike.

That's true. I don't particularly care for TFU but I don't really wish to see it decanonized. After all, there are some stories I like that others dislike. There are people who want to see the entire prequel trilogy decanonized, after all.

It's not that the dark side ending is canon, in the sense that it happens in continuity, but that the Dark Apprentice as shown in the dark side ending exists even in the continuity of the light side ending.

The Imperials actually won the space battle in the light side ending too but then they saw Vader got captured and feigned defeat.

Nice to hear that TFU is not canon anymore, what's the source of that info? Do not mix feelings and reason, guys; TFU was a very fun game series, but way too "commercial" to be in the official time line, with a super-hero-like-a-boss-rebel-good-looking-guy and stuff like that. Games are made to be fun, not to make sense; canon is made to make sense, not to be fun.

I dislike The force unleashed story as much as you guys. But it is far from the worst storyline from a videogame to ruin canon. That role would fall to Star wars elite Squadron. the 2 main characters are force sensitive clonetroopers each cloned from the same jedi. One turns Evil and the other one has to stop them. Plus it takes place from the clone wars to after return of the jedi. It completly ruins the movies and everything else.

I believe Pablo Hidalgo of Story Group outright said it on twitter. But I can't find it now, and you may have to find a screenshot of when he stated it online, because it seems he has deleted all posts from his twitter account...

Here is a link to the reaction thread on it in the Bioware forums: http://social.bioware.com/forums/for.../index/9348922/forum/1/topic/13/index/17846143/1 . Hidalgo's side of the conversation is gone, but the contents are obvious from the reactions on the thread.

It is always interesting to see how rumors spread as people hear what they want to hear.

Was there a thread about Jedi Twilight being non-canon?

"He should have died in the first one and left it at that. Then again, the whold Jedi more powerful than Vader and almost as pwoerful as the Emperor that no one talked about, who was really Kratos, was a stretch to begin with."

    [face_laugh] Funny stuff man.

Did you? Because Pablo said that TCW's Onderon arc more accurately reflected Lucas' intent for the founding of the Rebellion than TFU did.

That has nothing to do with the canonicity of TFU, anymore than Episode II rendered the Thrawn trilogy non-canon or the Citadel arc rendered the Coruscant Nights trilogy non-canon. And Pablo's reasoning was such a non sequitur that we had some fun with it in the Disney thread.
