Actually Hayden Christensen looks closer to Mark Hamill than Jake Lloyd, including the eyes and the chin dimple.

At least they didn't pull the reverse-aging, race-change that Lawrence of Arabia and A Dangerous Man: Lawrence after Arabia pulled:

Lawrence of Arabia's Alec Guinness as Faisal during WWI:

A Dangerous Man: Lawrence after Arabia's Alexander Siddig as Faisal at the Paris Peace Conference after WWI:

Well, the one movie wasn't actually a sequel of the other. Not technically.

It was written as an "unofficial" sequel from what I recall. I can't really blame the sequel makers though -- they didn't do brownface and Faisal was, in reality, close to Lawrence's age. Given the amount of time between the two films, though, it was meant more as a joke example. :p

I have nothing to back this up, but in 1999 I just assumed we'd get DiCaprio as Anakin in Episode II. I was dead wrong. But Jake Lloyd made sense in that context because he did look like he could age into DiCaprio.

Lucas cast actors based more on performance, than if they looked exactly like someone. Just like it happens in Hollywood all the time.

I agree. I'd also say the same thing about the thread itself.

I think Hayden does look somewhat like Jake grown up. I mean, the kid was supposed to be 9, his face will change eventually. Puberty is a hell of a drug. The kid has blonde hair, blue eyes and would be considered a handsome boy, plus he acted "well enough" to be young Anakin.

I mean, have you seen the kid from Jerry McGuire lately?

[IMG] This grew up to be [IMG] this.

I personally don't look anything like I did when I was 9. Besides the dark hair, my face changed drastically by the time I was 20-24.

    Arguably...

It's harder to buy those fresh-faced Larses at the end of ROTS transforming into sixty-something, weathered guardians in the next movie, set a mere "nineteen years" later.

I guess Luke was a real **** as a Force-endowed baby and son of Anakin Skywalker. ;)

Yeah. I've never really paid attention to it. I would have preferred that they had one actor for Anakin for all three prequels, but this is how Lucas decided to roll with it.
