ST Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader) in IX

Didn't he sort of do it with TFA? maybe in not quite the same way, but in the marketing of TFA there was some misleading going on.

 

Surely this won't be consigned to the garbage chute?

 

Could end up one of the recycled ideas. seems like the death star concept art idea certainly came back.

 

While the whole "Vader lives with Anakin" idea doesn't work for me, I can't lie how dope this artwork is.

 

Yeah, it's a fascinating concept, but I don't know if there's a place for it in TROS. If anything, I could have seen it as a vision haunting Luke while he was in exile in Ahch-To (like Vader in the Dagobah cave), rather than a proper Force ghost.

Yeah, a sort of Jacob Marley "Don't end up like me" vision would be appropriate.

Well they released the concept art in a book didn't they? so its hard to say whether they had plans to use them again, especially after showing everyone.

 

That's a good point. It's like the elevator antics in Revenge of the Sith were originally from an earlier draft of The Empire Strikes Back. Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Palpatine's adventure was adapted for Jedi from Lando, Leia, and Chewie's escape from Cloud City.

 

With Palpatine returning in some fashion and Kylo worshiping his grandfather, leaving Anakin out of TROS completely would be a HUGE missed opportunity to really tie things together and showcase 3 generations of the Skywalker family.

 

Its a case of show Anakin, don't overshadow the new generation. don't waste screentime on something that doesn't add anything just for a cameo, give Anakin a purpose, otherwise why get Hayden to just stand there for a cameo. this is all the things that need to be thought about. but at the same time how to bring back anakin was probably not the first thing on their minds in the thinking process.

And looking at that concept art they released in the TFA book... it doesn't seem like they would shy away from doing a more twisted Anakin.

 

I'm guessing something ethereal along the lines of that concept art at some stage in the film like as in part of a vision or spiritual trial, but also Anakin in his peaceful form giving some kind of crucial advice.

With the vision it could be a tormenting message to Kylo, or maybe even Rey's "Dagobah cave" moment, who knows.

I'm optimistic the Sith will play more of a direct role in the story than in TFA and TLJ (even though that would really be a retcon), so we could get a flashback to something from The Emperor and Vader to alter our perception of what was known up until this point.

 

Actually-to me, having a force ghost Anakin appear in TROS is actually quite relevant. Especially now that his old Sith master is in the film. There's lots Anakin could do/say in terms of adding depth to the plot, now. It may have felt like shoehorning before-but not anymore, with Darth Sidious in there. No one knows Palpatine like Anakin does.

 

He belongs in the film. Period.

 

Its nothing that the characters couldn't learn for themselves though. and they also have Luke that they wanna use too, which means you would be sharing screentime for something Luke could do on his own really. and its hard to say how much screentime Luke will even have in the movie.

In my opinion, if you use anakin, it has to be something unique to Anakin. and thats why i am sticking to my theory he will be a dark force vision created by palpatine whose talking to Kylo through Vaders helmet. yes i am expecting to probably end up wrong about that, but Kylo had to see something from Vaders Helmet, it couldn't have been just a voice surely. and if someone did not say to abrams hey since we are doing this... why don't we bring in Hayden? its not something that would take much thought, because Vader and Anakin are tied together as being the same person.

 

So if it is just the darker vision in TROS, since ROTJ the real Anakin has just been chilling?

But we definitely need to be shown what Kylo was seeing with Vader's helmet, agreed.

 

Anakin went straight to Force Hell 2 days after ROTJ. Obi-Wan and Yoda jumped his ass in Ghostworld. Everytime Luke asks, "Hey guys, where's dad?"
Yoda and Obi-Wan tell him that "He is a bit underground now."

Is this a reference to Anakin? Wasnt it Yoda the one who taught him how to become a force ghost? Yoda can now interact with the real world. What would be the next step? 'Rising'?

(Or maybe he is -from another POV- talking about Snoke. Yoda is 700 years his senior. Compare the wording of their generalizations: 'what all masters live to see'/'the true burden of all masters')

That said, if an explanation of Sio Bibble’s fate in TPM is not included in TROS, then...you guessed it. Huge missed opportunity.

 

haha. I'm sure you kidding. But as a huge Sio Bibble fan i gotta say.....

Sio Bibble survived TPM. Ten years later her is advisor to the current Queen of Naboo in AotC. We dont' know his job, but Sio is with yet another new Queen on Naboo in Revenge of the Sith at the funeral of Padme Amidala. Also there is Boss Nass and Jar Jar. (But NO Captain Typho.)
