ST Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader) in IX

I really do not think Anakins character will be important to the story. him being the chosen one. his sacrifice. i just do not see anakin being glorified like that. even more so not for this trilogy.

 

His Lightsaber and Helmet are glorified. His descendants carry on.

Darth Vader's breathing was in the second teaser / D23 special look before introducing 'Dark Rey'. Did everybody forget about that?

 

I'd argue that aside from a line or 2 of dialogue -- vague dialogue -- there has been next to zero glorification of Darth Vader or Anakin on screen.

Next to zero.

 

Thats the symbol of Darth Vader. even when we got the PT, anakin was second to his the symbol of Vader.

 

If Anakin does appear, I think it would be neat if they went with the concept art they developed of his Force ghost for TFA: half Anakin, half Vader. Yes, Anakin eventually did the right thing, but he did a lot of terrible things as Vader, so his Force ghost eventually starts to shift between between a visual form of the two.

 

It really depends on what they had in mind for that concept art. presumably they never got close to actually writing it into the script. but personally i think that would work better as a dark force vision.

 

The kid had more midichlorians than Yoda! Presumably -- a bolt of lightning could hit the throne of Palpatine - at the very least.

I'd prefer no helmet as a ghost -- just fading between healthy Anakin and Battle Scarred -- never fully realizing either.

 

I feel like LFL and this trilogy really only cares about Vader. It's almost like Anakin didn't return in ROTJ, or something. Vader is the one with the legacy, not Anakin. Which is so strange to me since ROTJ proves that Anakin never really died, or went away. There is no split personality. The ST wants us to believe the dark side personality is real, and is happening for Kylo.

 

Because acknowledging Anakin's arc doesn't work for their OT reboot. I mean look at all the comments here about how Anakin means nothing to the saga.

 

alot of people did not like Lukes arc for this trilogy. they felt Luke was pushed down so Rey would have to rise up. so when people start talking about anakin like they will give him this big glorious moment to justify him in the saga... it just seems so unlikely that they would glorify the characters when they have even been pretty strict with the OT ones with some feeling they all become failures.

 

The only way it could work is if they actually show the Jedi who are empowering Rey at the end, visualizing the idea that the aspirations of thousands of generations of Jedi, including those we've personally invested ourselves in, are channeling themselves through her in the one final act of triumph and defiance.

Seeing the spirits of Anakin, and Obi-Wan, and Luke, and Leia, hell, even Qui-Gon, Mace, Yoda, surrounding her, maybe each touching a hand to her as we see her rejuvenated after being drained by Palpatine, could be a huge "the audience literally cannot contain themselves" moment.

 

So, I believe that Anakin will be in TROS and here's why, Hayden was at galaxy's edge, canceled a few press conferences he had with Ian McDiarmid and now Ghost Anakin is the cover of the current Star Wars comic... IDK maybe I just want it to happen so bad... so im grasping at anything.

Hey, the day we're dissing Power Rangers is the day I lead the armies of hell to take over this whole plane of existence.

I do believe he'll be in the film but I don't think he'll have much of a major role besides being heard in the final battle or making a brief appearance. Especially now that Luke and Leia's roles as force ghosts have been heavily truncated.

 

It'll just be the soundbite of "I HAAATE YYYYOOOOUUUUUUU!!!" but attributed to his force-ghost.

Then Sheev just throws sand at him and he goes away.

 

A ghost is a ghost and can come in every form it wants, I would think. It would be awesome if Anakin's ghost shows up as Anakin Skywalker, then turns his sights on Palpatine and his ghost morphs into the ghost of Darth Vader, who takes out Palpatine once and for all. Kind of like the spirit at the end of Raiders, which goes from a beautiful woman to the face of death before Toht lets out his scream of horror and his face melts.

 

I will support the Anakin Possesses C3PO theory. Babu Frick puts a tiny bit of Vader Helmet into the back of 3PO's head.

JJ: All I’ll say about the prequels is if you ask someone around the age I was when the original trilogy came out, “Whats your favorite Star Wars movie?” they will tell you one of the original trilogy. If you ask someone around that age when the prequels came out, they will say one of the prequels. And it’s scientifically proven and undeniable. The original trilogy was for me what Star Wars felt like. And it was what Star Wars was. The prequels had a different but apparently equally powerful draw for so many people, and in some cases a more powerful draw.

I wasn't fond of how he was fawning over practical effects in the rest of this interview, and I hope he doesn't continue to only think of the OT. He is at least aware how important the PT was to many people. I want to say that I'm like 70-80% sure Anakin will be in TROS. It's been a 50 50 thing for me. I'm wrong, then well I won't be surprised considering everything. He's been persistently saying how Ep IX will tie everything up, so let's see. It just better not be only Sidious.



As much as I hated the approach, TFA was their time to do make a safe movie, so it's possible he will look at the larger picture now. A lot of people are right.... You just can't make a final Skywalker movie and not touch on Anakin's legacy. But then idk if it's as obvious to them as it is to some of us? I think it's happening. Just a hunch.

 

The "Abrams hate the PT" was fan BS from the start.

 

Granted I am becoming more of a JJ cynic day by day, but that little word "apparently" is doing a lot of work for him in that quote, and it is a "tell" to me.

 

It didn't take long.. I can't link the article from my phone but yesterday Jake Kleinman wrote an piece on why Hayden doesn't/shouldn't be in Ep 9. He trashes Hayden and George and anyone who likes the PT.

 

The PT isn't Abrams Star wars and thats fine. i don't think it means he will ignore them. he is aware there is an audience for the PT.

I think in making episode 9 he knows there is a responsibility there.
