Ahsoka Hera Syndulla

Huh, so what you’re saying is, she’s not acting the same as her animated counterpart. Why yes, you’re right!

 

I think she just doesn’t look or sound much like her…

Her acting seem perfectly sound, though. She’s simply not doing a 1-to-1 Hera imitation, that’s all. And acting is not the same as imitation.

 

I was sceptical about Hera based on the trailers but Winstead knocked it out of the park, she was a highlight of many highlights in the first two episodes.

 

It took me a few scenes to settle in, but by the end I totally "got" Hera from her. She's brilliant.

 

While Winstead looks great as twi'lek (Contacts look bit weird at times though, but well alien eyes anyway) and acts well she doesn't feel as much same as Ahsoka and Sabine to me either. So have to agree on that impression some others have had . She also seems bit younger than I would expect Hera to be at this point. Vanessa Marshall's voice is just so recognizable and warm it's too bad that Winstead doesn't have these subtle tones in her acting that would make it perfect. She is passable but not phenomenal and I miss Vanessa's voice, she was my favorite Rebels character exactly since her voice is so kind and warm, so motherly. Just cannot get the same impression from this so it doesn't feel like the same character unfortunately. Sure Ahsoka's voice is also very different but her different age helps a lot, Rosario sounds older so it's more believable that Ahsoka would change a bit. But Winstead sounds and looks younger than Hera in Rebels so it goes to wrong direction.
It's not a deal-breaker or anything, but a minor con in my book.

 

She feels very different from her animated counterpart. It's like they gave Hera's name and clothes to a completely different green twi'lek.
But I can live with it. After a while, I kind of grew accustomed to her being the "real" Hera Syndulla.

 

Despite my initial reservations, I have to say that Winstead was excellent as Hera. Perhaps my favorite performance of the show thus far.

 

Yeah those contacts. I know, alien eyes and all but I think Hera's eyes (and to a lesser extent, Ahsoka's) look unnatural.

 

Is Rosario wearing different contacts than her appearance in Mando season 2 or TBOBF? I don't know why but I thought her eyes looked different.

 

The 1st 2 episodes of Ahsoka were my introduction to Hera and she has already become one of my favorite Star Wars characters. I hope they don't ruin it for me.

 

The skin is a little too luminous IMO.

 

A luminous being is she. Kidding aside, I think it looks fine.

 

Winstead did a great job and I was coming form a position of grave reservation from the trailers. I loved it.

 

I prefer that to the dull, matte green of that one character from GotG, which looks less like skin and more like clay. The luminosity gives it life, and gives the character some added warmth. I agree with that design decision, and I believe it was tied to characterization. Had Hera been a colder or more remote personality, they might have gone with darker or thicker prosthetics, IMO.

 

Yes, I really like her look.

 

There's a maternal warmth that exudes from this character. I like her. I also like the Biggles-esque outfit. It's good to know there are some sheep out-there, somewhere, in the GFFA.

 

I thought it was very Cliff Robertson in 633 Squadron.

 

Gotta be frustrating fighting a war for most of your life to free the Galaxy.

Just to watch the NR screw thongs up with incompetence.

 

Hera's speech about Thrawn was quite passionate, although saving Ezra is her priority, getting revenge on the Chiss is clearly important to her too.

 

That's standard issue WW2 RAF flight gear. You can see similar on any character in decent WW2 flying movies.

 

That reminds me of the time I got my ascot in my dickie.

 

I’m just really loving Winstead’s performance. She brings a lot of pathos to the role. Great actor.

 

Gotta love Hera's preparedness. Even in live-action, those space goggles ain't leaving her forehead even for a second.
