Will this work the same for X-Wing 95?

I know no one has posted in a while, but I have a problem. I installed X-Wing and TIE Fighter on my Windows XP system yesterday, and TIE Fighter wouldn't run, it said it needed to install DirectX. Upon doing that, a popup screen appeared telling me the 3D hardware would be disabled. Thinking nothing of it, I continued (but still had the problem w/TIE).
Getting tired of my problems with TIE and X-Wing, I was going to play JA. I tossed that in, and now it said there wasn't a 3D card!!! My question is this - how do I get re-enable my 3D card so I can play JA, and how do I make sure I can play TIE and X-Wing?!?!? Please HELP!! Either respond to this or PM me, thank you very very much!!

To get tie fighter to run, follow the methods in this thread.
It sounds to me like you installed a really old version of directx when you installed TIE.

Try and find the latest (directx9.0b) and install that - then hopefully your newer games will run again.

Hmmm...I'm having problem getting my Tie-Fighter Collectors CD to run :(
It complains about VESA and then says I can't run HiRes, says it is starting Tie CD and then it says : Press any key to continue and I get thrown back to Windows...?!?...also, I don't have any file called tiecd.exe, I have tie.exe and tieauto.exe...

I found another version of the game (older one, not collectors) and that one will run but not with sound, if I try to run it with sound it says that I need more than 8xx kb EMS but I have activated more than that in the set-up...

I've never gotten the Collector's CD to run. I've done everything that the first post has said, and the game runs. But... when I go to any mission to play, my screen dies and gives funky streaks all over--similar to what the game did before I got the VDM stuff.

I've gotten the disk version to work now, I just had to diable some stuff like basic vesa support and the memory problem vanished...

Does anyone know how to get the voices to work on ScummVM? I'm trying to play Fate of Atlantis, and everything works perfectly...except the voices.

I have the same problem as GrandAdmiral three posts above with TIECD Collection and XP, to a certain extent. I've managed to get past the flash screen and to the concourse of TIECd collection edition, but when I start ANY mission, the screen freezes into long multicoloured streaks that wouldn't go away unless I do a hard reset... i.e. turn off, wait, then turn back on the power supply. I suspect that it is a logic board conflict, but that'sthe extent of my knowledge in XP.

Most likely. Give it a try. Failing that, there's the alternate dosbox DOS emulator for XP that claims Rebel Assault support.

Probably a graphics card issue. What version of TIE are you playing, and what's your hardware setup?

    TIE Collector's CD.

As for graphics, it's entirely possible, though it didn't work on both my laptop and desktop. I tried running the laptop in VGA mode too, with default drivers, and still no luck.

    Desktop:
    1024 mb RAM
    1.7 ghz P4
    ATI Radeon 9000 128mb

    Laptop:
    512 MB DDR RAM
    3.06 ghz dual P4s
    ATI Radeon 9600 64mb

I disabled MIDI and used ADLIB for music.

To anyone with the 'streaking': Try setting to 320x240 resolution. 640x480 produces this problem on my computer.

Hey JB!!! Are you still alive?? hehehe
I believe I did everything right under VDMsound, but in X-wing install program I can see that EMS is not available (0k)...when I try to run bwing.exe, I get "not enough memory"....it looks like VDMSOUND cannot create EMS memory....any parameter I missed ???

    Any idea please!!!
    Thank you so much !!

...X-Wing does work with a mouse. I remember the old days, when a good Joystick cost £50 and only had 3 buttons. It was utterly diabolical to control with a mouse, you had to move the mouse in such wide arcs just to turn half a radian...

    ...having a large desk helped.

    hey,
in the "old days" , there was a small DOS program to boost the mouse speed (really higher than windows). I don´t remember its name, but I could play X-wing easier with the mouse!!

Please, anybody here knows how to create EMS memory with VDMSOUND?? X-wing does not detect EMS here!!!

I have a question for anyone who's been following this thread that I hadn't thought of until now.

When I had my DOS machine, I ran X-Wing in conjunction with a TSR keyboard remapping utility called XREMAP that, among other things, allowed you to dump laser energy to your shields and rebalance shields with the press of a single key. I was wondering how you'd run such utilities with VDMSound or DOSBox.

    TIA

Hmmm. Perhaps creating a BAT file which would launch the utility and Xwing and VDMSing that? Or running the utility from a cmd DOS box and then using the command line VDMS?
