Sure. Each individual is different, but you can build up a tolerance over time. This article explains the benefits of eating peppers. They are good for you.

In fact, peppers are more nutritious than most other vegetables. Fresh green chile peppers contain twice the vitamin C of citrus fruits, and more Vitamin A than carrots.

Capsicum dilates blood vessels and reduces blood pressure. When blood vessels are widened, more oxygen and nutrients are able to be distributed to the cells in the body.

"By weight, green bell peppers have twice as much vitamin C as citrus fruit; red peppers have three times as much. Hot peppers contain even more vitamin C, 357% more than an orange. And red peppers are quite a good source of beta carotene..."

Did you know that Capsaicin stimulates the flow of gastric juices, which shields the lining of your stomach from acids (helps prevent ulcers if you don't have them, but can make an existing ulcer worse!) ?

    interesting. most interesting.

It should be noted -- persons should generally NOT eat green bell peppers though... red, yellow and orange are the good stuff, green impedes digestions.

    Why?

Because green bell peppers are UNRIPENED red, yellow or orange bell peppers... ;)

With all that said, I think I'll have an extra helping of some Dave's Gourmet 'Insanity' Salsa tonight. With all those Red Savina peppers inside, you just know it's gotta be good for you. :D

I like "Scorned Woman" for the name alone. Anyway, my neighbor grew some really nice Habanero and Pablano peppers and I roasted them along with some really sweet tomatoes and made some awesome homemade salsa. It probably cost me around five bucks for a gallon and it was way better than any store bought brand. Really simple to do and you can suit it to taste.

Today's phrase of the day: Mouth surf.

This is the term for the rush experienced when eating chilis. When capsaicin comes in contact with the nerve endings in the tongue and mouth, pain messengers called neurotransmitters, are sent to the brain in a panic. The brain, perceiving that the body is in big trouble, responds by going into 'defense mode' to douse the flames. The mouth waters, the nose runs, and the body breaks into a sweat. The heart beats faster, and the natural painkiller endorphin is secreted.

    What a rush.

I used to be into all of these hot sauces mentioned. I took my endorphin rush to Taco Bell, etc., for a better tasting taco!

My buddy once put about 5 eyedroppers full of pure cap into my egg nog...made me sick for the night!

Now days I can't handle the hot stuff anymore. My stomach and throat can't cope, thanks to about 3 straight years of eating the stuff like crazy.

[homer] Marge, where's my chili boots? [/homer]

I do enjoy hot foods, but I don't eat this extreme stuff on a daily basis. I'm usually eating hot stuff a couple times a week or maybe more depending on how lazy I am at cooking. I started carrying my own hot sauce with me when I go out, but it's not to the point where I eat hot sauce on everything.

Just like other things in life, if I do them too often and too repetitively, I'd get bored.

Or in other words, I'd reach 'burnout' (Pun intended). :)

We interrupt this thread for an editorial commentary:

I guess that explains why 'Innie' -vs- 'Outie' threads are/were so popular.

Views expressed in this commentary are not necessarily shared by members this board or it's administration, as this should be no surprise to anyone.

We now resume our normal programming.

What are your favorite hot sauces? Mild or hot? Let's hear you!

The habanero sauce from the Saltlick BBQ in Driftwood, TX is the best sauce I know.

Spicy and tangy with wonderful flavor without overpowering you.

I love hot sauce, but the other day I tried some that nearly killed me. I got blisters on my lips from it! The worst part though, is that it didn't even taste good.

Well, my friend gave it to me to put on some wings. I didn't think twice about using it since I love hot wings. Turns out it is actually more or less a gag gift. Let me known that I beat his ass afterwards though.

I love hot sauce, but can never find the real ones in the store.

I've had to settle for Crystal and Tapatio as my favs.

Like I said before, you'll have to find the specialty shops or use the internet to buy the sauces you can't normally find in your local grocer.

I find it odd that I can't buy Tapatio or Crystal in my local area here in Texas.

Well, one last shameless hope to gather a post or two for this thread. When I find this buried under 'quality' mind-numbing threads such as this, it really makes you wonder if it was worth the effort. [face_plain]

Anyone with some recommendations, or stories to tell?

Well, I had my first experience with Spontaneous Combustion yesterday.

Good stuff. Not quite as hot as Dave's Insanity, but close. Think of it as a souped up Tobasco. :)

Wow I just found this thread Qui-Gon Generic, very interesting. I am a hothead who loves hot sauce. I have tried most of the sauces above and also have a collection of hot sauces. I just picked up Blairs 4am and just opened up Blairs 3am a few weeks back to try a little dab. It is hot let me say. The 4am and 5am are suppost to be even more insane. I find that I rather like Blair's sudden death with Ginseng. It has a unique taste and a decent burn. I have not opened my Dave's private reserve as of yet or Da Bomb as of yet. Has anyone tried these two...
